Again, I don't think people who show up here for the very first time will generally get that impression by doing normal browsing. In my last 100 posts, five or six actually deal with admin/dictator edicts and MAYBE two could be seen as "mean" (although I believe I was totally justified every time).

Besides, I don't hate anybody. Certain posts I dislike intensely, but the people posting them never (almost never?) deserve hatred.

...not that we ARE losers or anything, you know.
See, you just leave an opening like that in the hopes that I'll say something and prove you right. Well, I won't do it! I wasn't born yesterday!

Another thing is that most people on the internet are rather lazy and they don't want to really do anything... like having to sign up to post. Is it possible to make it where some one could reply for a few times at least without having to fill out a form?
No way. That's like putting up a giant "PLEASE SPAM HERE" sign. Besides, that's a bunch of nonsense. People sign in to all sorts of sites all the time for much less than the ability to post (like the ability to read, for instance). I don't think requiring registration keeps any of us from reading any posts of value.

If the guy running the board hates the people using it, why would anyone want to start posting with a bunch of losers?

See, I think CRZ's approach on that is right on. I would think you'd have to be an idiot to not pick up on CRZ's very basic rules here: use correct grammar, punctuation and spelling, don't flame anyone, and don't be a troll/feed the trolls. If you can't figure that out by lurking here for a little while you probably aren't bright enough to last very long without CRZ having to deal with you.

I will be interested to follow Cerebus' continuing quest to receive outward approval from CRZ, though.

There's a bunch of other rules, too, that are a little more esoteric: don't post "excessively," don't chat, don't put any spoilers in the wrestling section (but spoilers everywhere are a-ok as soon as a show is broadcast or a movie is released), don't have a big sig, don't "be a moderator" -- I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch. I think the question of putting this sort of stuff in the FAQ has been brought up and shot down before, so people figure it out by themselves, either by somehow deducing it, or by witnessing or being subject to a gentle suggestion from the upper echelon. That's more what I was thinking of when I said "seemingly capricious" -- those rules that are unspoken and might be hard to suss out until there's a public example.

Hm, maybe. Is this recent trend part of an ongoing direction, or just an anomalous lull?

But I wasn't trying to say that you should be "less mean," just that, in addition to those "mean" posts, being "more nice" -- publicly -- might make the board seem more welcoming to new folk. I'm not saying new people are scared off by mean posts, but rather that maybe not enough new people are enchanted by friendly posts. I guess I'm saying you should post more! (Or delegate!)

Also, do not neglect to be rockin' in the free world.

I'm pretty sure we need to get drunken Karoake videos of CRZ on YouTube. This is the key draw that we are missing.

Yes.

Sorry for an essentially pointless post, but I've gotta ask:
Will we be seeing any of the ideas presented in this thread implemented in any way in the relatively near future?

Ken Kennedy debuted a new finisher: Jeff Hardy fans will insist on calling it the Swanton Bomb, but it looks WAY more devastating when not performed by a 180-pound fruitcake.

At some point CRZ and I will both be on AIM at the same time and will talk about this stuff. So far it hasn't happened yet.

Perhaps a Celebrity News forum to accompany the Movie, TV & Music ? With all the red carpets, porn tapes, divorces & arrests in the world of entertainment it could bring some additional readers/posters.

But I almost never see you (CRZ) saying anything like "Great post! Welcome to the board!" or "Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Welcome aboard!" or whatever. I do see a lot of "Please stop posting," "Please don't start any more threads," and posts with similar sentiments expressed. Now, those of us who have been around a while can look past the veneer and see the boundless love and patience underneath, but people who are lurking or just arrived might only see the sarcasm and the insults and the pure, utter disdain. New arrivals might figure that it's just not worth the effort to figure out how to avoid the (seemingly, to a rookie) capricious wrath of our beloved dictator, and go elsewhere.

Along these lines, possibly doing away with the Ratings, or at least allowing people to know who it is that has rated them? Knowing that every time you say something, there may be someone waiting to plunge your ratings and make you look like a troll isn't too welcoming, either.

Here's a really dumb idea that I'm sure would get squashed by the Zims in a second, but why not...

How about a Cafepress store? Sell "THE W" t-shirts, and help get the name out there.

That's something to consider... Just imagine all the old 'slogans' we can pull out of mothballs. "Its either this or porn"!!!

Heck, maybe even a t-shirt that just says "T-SHIRT OF THE DAY" or something.

You believe me, don't you?
