I meant to recap this show. Really, I did. But I just couldn't watch the majority of this crap.

This show was everything bad about turn-of-the-century Nitro, even guest-starring Bischoff in the driver's seat.

Pointless turns? Check - Eugene turns on Hacksaw Jim Duggan because...they can't be a tag team anymore?

Pointless stipulations? Check - Lawler handcuffed to a ring rope while facing Masters, Lita defending her title while Mickie James has one arm tied behind her back.

Pointless teases? Check - Hardy wins, only for Bischoff to restart the match and allow Nitro to win; a Spirit Squad breakup is teased, only for Eugene and Hacksaw to break up instead.

Monster demolishes woman? Check - Umaga trashes Maria, though it did set up a decent Cena promo.

Former Superstars looking like beached whales? Check - good God, Piper, show some self-respect.

Hostile crowd? Check - by the time Lita finished her "title defense" and Bischoff came out for the main event, that crowd was completely dead. I've never seen a crowd killed so completely.

I am always impressed by WWE's fans' self-control at not filling the ring with garbage after a card this inept.

Steph

The opening segment was decent, and I like that Bischoff is back (even if it was just for one night). And of course, no DX means they'll help Flair and Piper retain the titles....Good to see the Cena media blitz continuing....I guess it's nice to see rules being enforced, but that Hardy/Nitro DQ was dumb. Was this match because the fans didn't vote Nitro in last night?....Nice to see some continuity from Bischoff on the Maria thing. You would've thought someone else would've used that against her by now....

I thought K-Fed's pre-taped promo had WAY too many long pauses....I thought for sure Duggan and Eugene would get the fluke win over the SS to break them up. I don't think anyone cares enough about 'gene and Duggan for their breakup....They could've used the Umaga/Maria opportunity to get someone else over huge with the crowd, but of course, only Cena can act like a hero. And some hero, he let her almost get killed before he came out....Shelton's backstage segment was good, but WWE is going to beat the Ron Simmons joke into the ground....

How can Bischoff make King not come back next week?....Cryme Tyme was actually funny on commentary. The Shelton/Carlito match wasn't much....Lita/Mickie was uncreative. ANOTHER one hand missing match?....I was surprised at the lack of heat for the main event. What the hell was that superkick sell by Orton? No Heat whatsoever.

My name is John Cena. I am the WWE Champion. I do not deserve to be treated like this.

Very lame, boring show tonight, I thought. As already mentioned, Ross plays up how Cena rode out on his white horse, but just neglects to mention that Maria's already been brutalized. Then he attacks Todd Grisham because...?

Even without the standard Cena crap, this was just not very entertaining. What's with this K-Fed shit, and when is it going to go away?

I think it says something about the pedestal Cena has been put on by WWE that absolutely NOBODY on their roster can be taken seriously against him, that they're bringing in outside CELEBRITIES to feud with him instead. He's been made out to be some sort of super-hybrid of Austin, Rock, Hogan, and Slaughter, and to be honest, he doesn't stack up favorably to any of the 4. Cena's so untouchable right now that everything he's involved in seems like a foregone conclusion before its even started. What's so interesting about that? I don't know, and I don't think WWE does, either. They just don't know what else to do.

I've seen Raw shows die that probably were good on paper. This show was DOA, though. How'd that booking even make air?

They build up the heels going over everyone all night, completely killing the crowd, only so they could get DX a bigger pop??? And then they end the show with THAT skit?!?!

What the hell?

Yes, that was Russo-era WCW stuff there.

I've never seen a crowd get so dispirited.

Cena saves Maria AFTER she's devoured? What a hero?

Let's see...Hacksaw, Piper, Lawler and Maria wrestled tonight...did the rest of the roster get lost?!?!

That's probably as bad as a show can get without corpse fucking.

-Well we start off with Lita coming out like she just crawled out of someone's backseat, WTF was with the hair? I went in thinking Bischoff back as GM fulltime would be cool, but they almost went overboard to kill that vibe, and I'm guessing, it's a definite one time thing.

-The quick No DQ stip was obviously coming after the ref only warned Melina about interferring, only to have her grab Hardy's leg a minute later.

-K-Fed challenging Cena? Why don't we add Vanilla Ice to the match, and make the match a Wigger of Wiggers match? The pauses in his promo were probably to allow for audience reaction, but when the audience really didn't give a shit, it killed it. Probably not a good idea to tape the segment.

-Eugene and Hacksaw broken up, and Eugene goes apeshit on Hacksaw, I hope this means no more Hacksaw, and not a Hacksaw/Eugene feud. Please, anything but that.

-Cena comes out to make sense of things, like Umaga beating on Maria, then F-U's Grisham? Sure, OK. To quote Matt Hocking from OO, Todd Grisham has fallen.

-Over an hour into the show, Lita still has the backseat look, and a new shirt...busy night at the office?

-Before the Lawler match, I thought, wouldn't cuffing Lawler be somewhat of a disadvantage to Masters being his Masterlock needs both arms? Then later on, Masters has the ref unlock Lawler to apply the Lock. This is the smartest Masters has ever ever ever looked.

-I can't understand it, but why are they burying Mickie? Her working with Trish was one of the best things about Raw this year, and now, nothing. Who did she happen to piss off?

-I can't even think about the main event...the DX thing with "Big Dick Johnson" was just burn your retinas scary. Ouch.

Agreed, bad show, and I dont think it's helped any by the whole only announcing matches exclusively on WWE.com. I sure hope it gets better, but I'm not expecting much.

For years I used to roll my eyes at the "sky is falling" hyperbole of wrestling fans' bemoaning what WWE was producing. I wasn't enjoying it as much as I had, but I didn't think it was that bad. I did not want to hear all the complaining, all the bitter declarations of hatred toward WWE for ruining a beloved pastime.

Now I understand.

Tonight, after almost twelve months of only slight variations on indifference toward the product, I saw with a heightened clarity the hideous underbelly of what WWE has become. A haunting, disturbing, and truly heartbreaking sight; like accidentally seeing your grandmother in the shower, all wrinkles and sags and bones and frailties. Once strong, now irremediably weak and terminally diseased, WWE is a celebration of failure and ineptitude; a raucous, pungent mass of rotting walrus shit with whipped cream on top. Nothing has ever revelled, shown more unchecked pride in its fundamental, nearly convulsive inadequacy than WWE does right now. Watching this is like walking downtown and stepping over a homeless drunk who is ironically laughing, sure to be dead within weeks and happy about it, not in the least disappointed in his own woeful inability to approach even the periphery of his least human potential. RAW is a fire department Dalmatian too inbred to stand, too contrary to what is logical and natural about the way of the things in the universe to possibly exist without violating the laws of physics.

Roddy Piper and Ric Flair are the tag-team Champions. It is not easy to make Ric Flair in 2006 look virile and energetic, but Piper manages to do it. He seemed to have difficulty just walking to the ring. Seeing the Rowdy Scot, probably one of the most unsung reasons that the WWF's mid-eighties national expansion even succeeded in the first place so bloated as to be unable to remove his shirt was an ugly reality. Seeing his pale legs was worse. How does one get that colour without years of residence within cavernous tombs of the Earth devoid of sunlight and human contact? Wrestling now has a Gollum. This match was the very definition of unwatchable. I have never in my life felt so bad about watching something, so ashamed of myself for seeing it, ashamed of the people I was seeing, and ashamed of humanity for being indirectly responsible for its existence. Truly, this must be what it's like for a minister's wife to stumble upon her beloved husband's secret collection of child pornography.

Compared to this atrocity, the other violations of logic seemed like only venial sins. On any other night this contrast might favour the standard-fare crappiness; the lesser of two evils or less fat of two horny, easy broads and it's-not-like-they-know-people-I-know-anyhow-so-whatever. On this night, however, I reacted to these things as one might kick one's dog for shitting on the carpet shortly after a death in the family. Anything in combination with that main event had to be dangerous, intolerable.

Farooq coming out to accent Booker no longer being a black man was, for what it was worth, funny enough. Hasn't he already come back twice since then? I was hoping that Ron Simmons, first black world Champion, would chew Shelton out and teach him something about race and the limitations it imposes, or doesn't, if you work hard enough. But he just said damn, which was both disappointing and not funny. This is the thing about WWE. This is what is so distressing about seeing it. They suck at everything; they actually can't do anything right.

Nothing expressed this view better than tonight's embarrassing post main event histrionics. Seeing two men hold another man so that a short and morbidly obese male stripper might gyrate in his face just about summed up what's wrong with WWE. I thought we were going to see the logical extension of the kiss-my-ass club for a moment there. This was, at its core, our final cue, if we hadn't figured it out already, that they aren't even approaching the same galaxy of what people want to see. Watching that dead crowd lose respect for Shawn Michaels and HHH as they danced around was my opium: it showed me I'm not alone.

Good night and, sincerely, good luck.

What we know is this : The "Target Audience" Is whoever still pays to go to the show. If it's not us, who's the one getting worked? We who complain about it, or the people still willing to pay $35+ to see Cena squash all-comers and no new feuds?

Man like a year or two ago Carlito and Shelton Benjamin had a pretty hot rivalry that got the crowds excited, and now they're wrestling in total silence! What happened?

Also, whoaaa did I apparently dodge a bullet by switching to the Daily Show at 11.

Yeah, seriously. If I listed all my complaints about this show and WWE in general, I'd be here all day so I'll just harp on this one specific:

What the fuck was up with John Cena's run in? He waited until after the Samoan drop and the running ass in the corner before he got in there. "Wait, I wanna see where he's going with this.... Oh no, the Samoan Spike! I can't let her take that!"

This was then topped off by one of the stupidest announcer comments in recent memory by Grisham: "John Cena, what are you doing out here?!?" What's he doing?! He was supposed to be saving a girl from a monster, which he didn't even really do, nor was he terribly concerned about her well being. And why should he be when he has a stupid self-serving promo to deliver?

"My name is John Cena. I'll repeat it a dozen times."

Who. Booked. This. CRAP?

What will make me throw my remote at my TV is if and when Maria thanks Cena for saving her next week. And if he kisses her again, I'll know Creative smokes crack and shoots heroin at the same time.

Was the purpose of this show to make the fans miss the presence of the Family McMahon? This wasn't Intro bad, this was Thunder bad.
I was barely paying attention to the rapper or Cena, but are they facing each other on the January 1st edition of RAW? If so, I've finally found a reason to watch the probable Texas vs. Boise State Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. There better be a good Rose Bowl that day.
If Marty Jannety hadn't pissed off his parole officer, would we be suffering through this?
Carlito and Shelton are entering the abyss of Torrie Wilson Land. Even a snazzy dresser like Al Wilson had to fake his death to get out of the heat killing zone created by Torrie.
Three weeks out from Survivor Series and absolutely no interest in the product. And they are giving ECW the Elimination Chamber, so that pretty much dampens any interest in the January RAW PPV.

Everyone here has summed up my feelings about Raw sufficiently. Well done, all. So I'll just say this.

Did anybody else watch the Family Guy on Sunday where Stewie finally put the vaudeville duo out of their misery, because the joke had been brutally beaten into the ground and ceased being funny a long time ago?

Anyone else thinking after last night that something similar should happen to Ron Simmons? "Damn" has officially ceased being funny.

TEN YEARS AGO IN WRESTLING HISTORY: OCTOBER 1996
WWF: Mankind d. Undertaker in the first ever Buried Alive match at...WWF Buried Alive. Also, Steve Austin continued his efforts to bring Bret Hart back to the ring by turning on Brian Pillman, shattering his ankle in what to this day is known as "Pillmanizing".

WCW: Hulk Hogan d. Randy Savage in a main event no one cared about, but Roddy Piper came out immediately after to end Halloween Havoc with a bang. The Outsiders won their first WCW Tag Team titles by beating Harlem Heat.

I remember the days that I would fight to stay awake to see all of RAW. Now I can go to bed a lot earlier. Thankfully last night was one of those nights.

How sad is it that all of my hope for RAW hinged on Charlie Haas hopefully coming out to help Shelton Benjamin?

I agree that RAW was awful. But in terms of Cena, my bigger problem was with JR. he could have made some sense of this by stating that Cena saved Maria from being FURTHER BEATDOWN and then segued into "I shudder what COULD have happened to Maria had Cena not come down when he did". Cena not coming down earlier is easily explained be him not being around to see it since he was given the night off. But when he got word of the beating Umaga was giving Maria, he came down and stopped it FROM GETTING WORSE.

As for the hero part, well, no else came down. Where was Carlito or DX or Hardy or ANYONE. Hell, it would have been the perfect time to turn Shelton Benjamin by having him come down and take the beating for Maria.

I do not blame Cena for the save. I blame JR. He sold it wrong. I do however blame Cena for an awful promo after. It would have been better served if he chased Umaga off, yelled some crap at him w/out the mic and then spent the rest of the time tending to Maria and then carrying her to the back. As it was, he checked her once or twice and the REFS actally escorted her to the back.

This is just one of the many, many things that were wrong with RAW last night and make me not want to watch next week.

I usually watch the first hour or so and tape the rest to watch at a future date (assuming it's worth watching). I didn't start the tape up tonight and I am quite sure I haven't missed anything if I am judging correctly by this thread.

My completely untested why-this-shit-is-so-lousy theory:

At its height, Raw worked so well because the McMahon family has the creativity and imagination to consistently piece together about 90 minutes of interesting content each and every week. And when Raw was clicking & upstaging Nitro, about 90 minutes of the show was pretty good.

The McMahon family is STILL creative & imaginative enough to piece together about 90 minutes of interesting content each week... but now that content is stretched over 120 minutes of Raw, 120 minutes of Smackdown, and 60 minutes of ECW.

And the McMahon family / writing team just ain't talented enough to fill 300 minutes of prime time content a week.

I got to watch most of the show except fo the main event. I normally try to stay positive about wrestling but I had to work the night. For once I really wanted to go work because I was actually really wanting to leave early for work. WTF? I hope next week is better because is felt mailed in and below par.

Saw Eugene turn coming a mile away...still pointless.

Cena, a hero, what took you so long to get there? Were you having a cup of coffee? Finally noticed Maria was in the ring getting ripped apart.

Ugh...lets just say this is the first RAW in a while that I don't think I could put any positive spin on.
