Only one unbeaten team left in the NFL after yesterday and it certainly wasn't the team I expected it to be.....

had the pleasure of being in Chicago yesterday and I watched the Bears gack like performance against the Joey Harrington led Fish on a 63 inch Flat Screen - I bet it looked even worse in person but I don't know how. The Bears looked right past this game to next week's matchup with the Giants. They fumbled, they stumbled, they bumbled (apologies to Chris Berman) all game long. The game was over in my opinion at 21-10 when Da Bears went for a FG late in the 3rd rather than the first down on 4th & 7. The argument in the room in the room was that there was plenty of time left on the clock but this was the undefeated Bears against the crappy dolphins - how do you not go for it ? It had to send a positive message to the Dolphins sideline that Da Bears didn't think they could move the ball against the Fish. Bad call. Next thing it was 28-13 and the game was even further out of reach. Bears could come back like a vengeance next Sunday night or this 3 week stretch could be the beginning of the end for the 2006 media darlings......

and speaking of the Giants, they didn't fall into the same "trap" that Da Bears did though from what I understand, it wasn't a dominating performance at home against another very bad team. Have I mentioned that I hate the Giants recently ?

My Broncos went to Pittsburgh and avenged the Championship Game loss but the win is hollow and about 10 months too late. Javon Walker has to be loving life in Denver right about now - Ashley who ? No Tatum Bell but he wasn't needed anyway. Big Ben probably saved his starting job with his 400+ yards of mostly garbage time passing but you can still hear the undercurrent of Charlie Batch fans as Big Ben loses again.......

Haven't read Peter King yet today but I am sure that he has assumed his old Brett Favre bend down and take me repeatedly position in front of Peyton Manning today. The Pats gacked at home and now the playoffs look to go through Denver & Indy if they want to get to the SuperDuperBowl in Miami.......

The team that scares me the most is actually San Diego. Rivers is making everyone forget Drew Brees but he is really doing it just by handing the ball to the best RB in the game - LaDainian Tomlinson - sorry LJ but even you have to know that this is true - what a great draft day trade that was many years ago for the Chargers - they wore the old powder blue jerseys with the white helmets too - great look, scary team..........

The Rookie of the Year is playing in New Orleans and everyone knows it ain't Reggie Bush - Drew Brees has turned Marques Colston into his next Antonio Gates and Saints fans are loving it. With the Falcons inconsistency & the Panthers collapse, the Saints may be the 2006 surprise team in the playoffs - the SuperDome would be rocking like Katrina was inside if the Saints hosted a game in January.......

Tony Romo may be real - the rest of the team is not - I hate the Cowboys and I hate TO even more - I am not a fan of Daniel Snyder either so this was one of those games where I cheer for the team I hate less - Parcells has to be wondering why he stuck around this year - maybe he should go hang out with TO's publicist for a while.........

How does Atlanta lose to Detroit ? I don't care if the game was in Detroit, how can you take Michael Vick seriously if he can't win the games he is supposed to win ?

Byron Leftwich better start practicing holding a clipboard though it was only Tennessee - Vince Young must have thought he was playing for SMU instead of re-living his Texas days - Jax is too inconsistent to win it all but they could kill a team's chance in the final weeks and in the playoffs.......

Baltimore may have just cemented themselves into 1st in the AFC North - Cincy just can't keep up with Chad Johnson's mouth and the checks are now being presented to be cashed - don't see Ocho Cinco, Rudi, Carson or Who'syourmomma stepping up for the Bengals - maybe they can blame Kimo for their failure again this year too.......

Marc Bulger had the tastes great, less filling #'s of the day yesterday completing 31-42 for 354 and 1 TD - no substance at all - in the Show Me State Showdown, the Chiefs did more with less and Damon Huard & Larry Johnson were the real reason why - Huard is far exceeding anyone's expectations and fans are starting to not miss Trent Green and his squishy head.......

I tried to say something about each game but nobody cares about Green Bay at Buffalo (was that one of Buffalo's SuperDuperBowl losses ?) and the less said about Minnesota and the Niners, the better......

Seattle and the raiders tonight fall into that final category too - my lasting image of these teams will always be Bo Jackson planting his foot into Brian Bosworth's chest like Bosworth was a inflatable clown or something.....but tonight, Jim Zorn will find Steve Largent one or two too many times and the Seahawks will keep their season alive and the raiders winning streak (who ever thought they would be writing those last 3 words in the same sentence and in that order please raise their hand - didn't think so) will be over.

Seattle 21 raiders 10

though I will be watching Heroes instead - Save the Cheerleader. Save the World.

I care (and no, we weren't one of the Bills-beaters [NY Giants, Cowboys 2x, Niners -- I think]).

We sucked. You can't turn the ball over 4 times and win, even with the outrageous statistical differences in that game (yards and time of possession were hugely in the Packers favor).

I sure hope Indy is 15-0 coming into their final game, hosting Miami...and then they beat THEM, too, causing the entire 1972 Dolphins team (who, naturally, will have flown in to cheer against the home team) to expire.

They most certainly fell into the trap. It's just it was David Carr and the Texans. Houston moved the ball up and down the field pretty easily, but couldn't put them away. This was a game that the Giants should have lost. In the olden days, they would have lost this one.

And how can you hate the Giants?? They have loveable players like Plaxico Burress, Jeremy Shockey, Eli Manning... and of course, Tiki Barber.

Blame the media. It was a perfectly happy cruel celebration before the cameras showed up. Now it's tacky.

It would help if Rex Grossman didn't SUCK. As far as the Colts, it's Peyton Manning - the champagne is safe!

God knows I love the Bears, but the most important player on the Bears defense isn't Urlacher, it's Mike Brown, and Mike Brown is out until around Christmas at the earliest. Without him, this team is just a group with an above average defense and an average offense. They'll make the playoffs due to the weak schedule, but unless something big changes (Mark Bradley gets healthy and plays awesome for instance) they are likely a 10-6 team cruising towards a one-and-done playoff run.

They're so stupid, those people. The starting job has never been in jeopardy, though; rational people understand that he's just going to have to take his lumps and come back physically and mentally sound next year. And the problems go far beyond the quarterback at this point. Ben cost us the two games, Jacksonville and Oakland, when he was playing after the appendix and the concussion (the appendix and the concussion!), but other than that he's been fine-to-great.

The funniest part is that most close followers of the Steelers laughed when the experts who only pay cursory attention to everything instead of knowing a lot about anything specific said that Antwaan Randle El would be an important loss. He was just a punt returner and slot receiver, after all. Instead we lost to Cincinatti and Atlanta almost directly because of fumbled punts and have probably fumbled like ten times on returns. It's kind of hilarious at this point.

I can't decide whether it's better to shoot for the vaunted 7-9 mark to avoid having the worst record of a SB champion or whether tanking bad and adding the high round picks and easy schedule to a healthy Ben will give us a better chance at being really good again next year. It was basically the same circumstances that led to the 15-1 season.

Big Ben probably saved his starting job with his 400+ yards of mostly garbage time passing

And I wouldn't say they came in "mostly garbage time," because there wasn't garbage time until Denver kicked the field goal with like five minutes left to go up 31-20. Pit was in the spread from basically the 2nd quarter on as they took the Madden-playing philosophy of saying fuck it, we can't do nothing right no more so we may as well just throw for fun. For other fun, I checked and ~80 of the 430 yards came in garbage time. Although in a way the whole game was garbage time.

I must be the last non-Dolphins fan that enjoys this subplot to every season. Maybe because I always liked Buoniconti from HBO's "Inside the NFL" and Larry Csonka had such a cool sounding last name and manly mustache. It wouldn't bother me if they kept that "perfect season" until they were all dead and gone.

Last night's Pats loss looked a lot like a late night drunken game of Madden.

You get home from the bar and figure you're good for one game before bed. You start off simple running up the middle and with great success. Then for some reason, maybe it's a long defensive stand, you forget about your great running success and start to air the ball out, but your aim is off because you've been drinking and balls go out of your receivers hands and into the defenders because your timing is off. The game never gets out of hand, but you want to avenge your bad passing stats so you throw more but get the same results.

Suddenly, you remember how great you were doing when you were running up the middle. Only you look at the clock and see that time has slipped away from you so you run it up the middle once or twice with success then go back to passing for no good reason.

The night ends with you throwing one more pick, off of your receiver's hands, on your final drive and you toss the control to the ground and turn the game off.

The next day you go on to stomp the hell out of the same team. I've had many a game like last night's Colts/Pats contest. Bellichick just needed a reset button.

I was at the Bills-Packers game, and it really was an "eh" game. McGahee getting hurt on the first drive pretty much wiped the Bills out offensively, and most Buffalo fans are *this* close to calling for J.P. Lossman's head on a platter in favor of Criag Nall, but a win may have quieted them for a while.

I still can't figure out just what Brett Favre was thinking on that 1st and goal late. They were chewing up the Bills secondary over the middle, and they ran well on that drive, so he calls a quick hitter to the side, and it's promptly tipped and intercepted. Ballgame.

I will say though, we had seats on the 30-yard line, row 2 on the Buffalo sideline, and if you ever have the chance to go to a football game, and you have no major vested interest in the result (I'm a Giants fan), I fully recommend doing this. If I was a decent lip-reader, I probably could have sat in on the Buffalo offensive and defensive line meetings that happened after every drive. You can really watch the bench, the cheat-sheet on the Fox camera rigs (The camera that blocked our view occasionally was tasked to get the quarterback's reaction should the game have ended with a hail mary), it is a different way to see the game.

If you care about whoever is playing though, those seats are probably some of the worst you can get in the stadium. Whenever the ball is in front of you, your great view is now blocked by the TV cameras, the chain gang, the photographers, the cheerleaders, and the end of the bench.

The only thing I can think of is he was a TE at Hofstra. Don't know if that's true, though. I mean, last time I checked, tight ends don't get numbers in the teens, do they? It's just for QB's, kickers/punters, and WR's, right?

Not that I can tell.

However, the NFL Draft Tracker did list Colston as a TE. If I recall correctly, that information is based on what the team says when they make the pick. SI's Draft Bio lists him at a 4.55, which is pretty pedestrian for a WR. Just goes to show how overrated 40 yard times are. They probably thought of him as a slower college WR who could put on some weight and become a TE. Obviously, they ended up changing their mind on that.

But the only 2 teams they've played that have winning records right now are the same 2 teams they lost to. The six teams they've beaten have a combined 15 wins, or about 2.5 per team. OH VER RAY TED.

My proverbial hat is off to LT, though. He's been doing it for longer, so you gotta give him the nod. But head-to-head thus far, battling it out on the same field, LJ has put LT over his knee and spanked his bottom red. While facing a much tougher defense in the process, I might add.

Technically, should it really count as a perfect season if they finish 16-0 and then crap the bed in the playoffs? I can see the '72 Dolphins just following Indy from stadium to stadium through the playoffs, preferably dressed in the same shabby suits every time like Nikolai Volkoff attending those Superstars tapings in the mid-90's. Then, with the Super Bowl in (where else) Miami, the Colts finally drop one. This leads to a fight in the stands between Bob Griese and Archie Manning.

While I'd love for Oakland to be 4-4 at this point, they are actually 2-6 (you do have them in the right seed) and for those of us already looking toward the draft, the draft order for the top 16 pick is as follows: Pick: 1 St. Louis 0-8 .
