Where did jwrestle go?

Well, ok.

We start with a recap of bound for Glory (which was really good!) and then we see the NEW CHAMP, Sting, head down to the ring. Christian Cage is already there, and wants to know why he has to compete in a tournament (more on this later) to get a shot at the title -- he should get an automatic shot! He never lost the belt in the first place! Sting retorts that Cage can have a match, at Sting's leisure and discretion. Then Sting beats Cage down with his bat.

Shane Douglas comes out to introduce his Newly Franchised Naturals -- they're taking their title shot TONIGHT! LAX comes out but is blindsided by AMW -- AMW beats them around the arena and throws them in the ring.

Naturals vs. LAX:The Nats take control early with their sissyboy offense, but LAX recovers quickly. Homicide KILLS Chase Stevens with the Gringo Killa. Border Toss to Andy Douglas! Homicide pins Douglas while Hernandez stands guars (awesome -- Hernandez is all "at the ready" but quits halfway through the pinfall when he realizes that Stevens isn't moving).

This is interesting -- they don't want to stop pushing the Nats but don't want to pull the trigger on them either (I'd be pretty hesitant myself). The Nats got DESTROYED in this match -- even though LAX was BEAT DOWN pre-bell, they still won in about TWO MINUTES.

Shane is back out -- he slaps Stevens, who slaps back, and then Andy PUNCHES Shane! Shane is shocked -- and then he SMILES! And it's back into the holding pattern, looks like.

PAPARAZZI PRODUCTIONS: Shelley asks Nash -- even though Austin Starr won the tournament, that doesn't mean that Starr is better than Shelley, right? Nash: "No, just different." Nash wants to confirm that Johnny Devine is kicked out of the group -- apparently he was insubordinate; he didn't want to edit the "German snuff films."

Starr is here -- Nash is very taken with him, and tells Shelley to make sure he films Starr's every movement. Shelley, off-camera: "It should at least be explained to me why I have to do that." Aw, man, father-figure jealousy angle comin' up!

Ass-backwards-WTF-Battle Royal: Okay, um: 18 guys start out OUTSIDE the ring. Yes. Now, the first SEVEN guys to get INTO the ring by going OVER the top rope get to participate in a Battle Royal where, of course, you have to go back out over the top rope again. Okay, now the LAST TWO guys have a one-fall singles match (this last part is standard for TNA Battle Royals). Keep paying attention, there's more: ALL SEVEN of the guys that participate in the Battle Royal are entered into a tournament to determine who gets a title shot with Sting at Genesis in November. They are "seeded" in the order they're eliminated. Whoever WINS THIS match, tonight, will get a "bye" into the FINALS of said tournament. WELCOME BACK, RUSSO!

First part is...well, let's be charitable and call it "weird." The guys that get in are Robert Roode (as he's now called -- Miss Brooks [as she's now called] is up the ramp), Chris Sabin, Styles and Daniels (simultaneously!), Abyss, Hoyt, and -- Christian Cage ALMOST makes it in, but Rhino runs down to stop him! (Rhino chose not to participate in this because he wants to stay focused on him and Cage's BARBED WIRE CAGE match on the first Primetime show NOVEMBER 16 on SPIKE TV.) Killings makes it in instead.

Two side notes -- Team 3D and the Naturals were arguing outside the ring, and Maverick Matt was watching from the Raven's Perch position -- he was all tarted up like Raven, I guess -- really, he looked like he'd been rooting through Shannon Moore's makeup kit. Kazarian was participating in the match and took no notice, so I suspect that that team might be done.

Okay. Back to the match. Killings tossed out first by Roode. Sabin goes for a DDT off the top turnbuckle on Roode -- Roode tosses him out, too. Roode hits Hoyt with the Payoff (Roll of the Dice). Man, this new manager is sure paying dividends!

Styles and Daniels, it should be noted, work together with no backstabbing or miscommunication or anything like that -- Styles saves Daniels from an Abyss chokeslam, then shoves Daniels out of the way of an incoming Northern Lariat, taking the bullet himself. Daniels tries to get Roode out, but Miss Brooks grabs him by the ankle -- Roode elbows Daniels out. Styles take out Roode. (I wish that the announcers had put over that Roode took out the first three guys before going out.)

Styles and Abyss fight for a while until Abyss hiptosses Styles out over the top rope -- Styles lands hard, his momentum carrying him headfirst into the guard rail. Ouch.

And now it's one-on-one, Abyss and Hoyt. Hoyt makes the "I want the belt" gesture and Abyss counters with the "I'm kicking Lance Hoyt in the face" gesture. Abyss goes for a chair and Hoyt catches him with a big boot of his own. Hoyt RUNS UP THE ROPES and moonsaults onto Abyss!!! Two count! Abyss hits the SHOCK TREATMENT (Torture rack sitout backbreaker) and gets a two! Hoyt dropkicks Abyss into a corner -- leans a chair against his face -- and hits a top rope RVD-style kick-to-the-chair-thing from two turnbuckles away! Crowd is chanting HOYT HOYT HOYT for the first time in a while! Hoyt PICKS ABYSS UP for what I can only assume is Test's new finisher, but Abyss escapes -- BLACK HOLE SLAM and that's that.

No way that Hoyt was going to win (although with Russo, who knows?) but that was fun enough!

So, from here, we get three singles matches on November 2, then a triple threat match November 9, and then the winner of THAT fights Abyss on the FIRST PRIME TIME show -- NOVEMBER 16 on SPIKE TV.

Now it's the FIRST of our DOUBLE HEADER MAIN EVENT TALKFEST! Borash is with Jeff Jarrett in the locker room -- this was filmed after the BfG match. JJ says that Sting was the better man tonight, and that he (JJ) is going home -- he's been neglecting things. He's sniffling a lot -- again, I'll be charitable and assume it's from all that "emotion."

Tenay and West put over what an AMAZING PERSON Jarrett is, how he CARRIED THE COMPANY ON HIS BACK for the entire life of TNA, and how they have so much respect for him and blah blah blah. This makes me a little ill.

And now KURT ANGLE is in the ring. The crowd LOVES him. He says that he quit WWE -- wasn't fired, but quit -- because he wanted to wrestle in front of the Orlando fans! Huh! And also because he thinks the wrestlers in TNA are the best in the world. He says there's one guy in particular -- and here, the crowd starts chanting "JOE'S GONNA KILL YOU" at him -- boy, tough crowd. Kurt says that he is, indeed "terrified" of Samoa Joe, but that fear is a good thing -- also, even though Joe is seemingly unbeatable, he's a bleeder -- and Kurt LOVES bleeders! Ha ha!

This brings Joe out, and they brawl -- and here's security -- and we're done.

So Sting has a confrontation with Christian and beats him up, then another Christian/Rhino bout is announced later that evening, despite Christian beating Rhino twice in a row?

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Yeah, it's weird, huh? They actually announced it BEFORE Rhino cost Cage the chance to get into the tournament, too, which makes it, you know, TOTALLY GOOFY. They could've waited 'til next week and it would've made PERFECT SENSE.

Also, Sting's kind of a dick, being all like, "no, Christian, I don't think I want a match with you -- but I WILL hit you with this baseball bat!"

I seem to remember that one of the problems with Russo's last tenure was that nothing made a lick of sense. Looks like we're for that all over again.

I haven't watched Impact yet but I did see Sting's new look. So, is Sting suddenly colorblind now? That might explain his new outfit. It looks like he took the zebra bedspead off a sleazy Vegas motel and made a coat out of it.

Hey, you want complaining about TNA's crap booking, look no further than Lance Storm. He REALLY dislikes TNA's booking. (I'm with him there. To clarify, I like TNA's roster and the wrestling is great but the booking sucks.)

They wanted to do a one-night tournament, but a)they only had an hour and b) they didn't want to do a plain ol battle royal.

I understand the reasoning but if you only have an hour, don't do a one-night tournament. You have to work with the time you have instead of trying to cram in too much (which has become a staple of TNA, unfortunately). A normal battle royal for the title shot would have been (lame but) fine.

Here's a better idea - just give the shot to Christian, who hasn't submitted or been pinned in TNA, is a former TNA champion (who lost his belt in one of TNA's other retarded gimmick matches), and who turned heel against Sting a few months ago, leading to... nothing so far.

Or give the shot to Samoa Joe, who hasn't submitted or been pinned in TNA, and who turned heel against Sting a few months ago, leading to... nothing so far. Then have Angle/Joe one month later for the title.

Or give the shot to Kurt Angle, the alleged "best wrestler alive today." Say he demanded a title shot to sign with TNA. Angle/Sting is not really a dream match because it's Sting and he's old and shitty, but they can pretend.

Hell, give the shot to Jeff Jarrett, who lost the title (due in part to questionable officiating - if the original ref counted both Sting and Jarrett down for 10, presumably Jarrett would have retained) and is apparently not concerned enough about it to ask for a rematch. I can't stand Jarrett as champion, but I like Sting as champion even less. At least Jarrett shows up.

So am I the only person who liked the "Fight for the Right" tourney? I admit there was too much going on (Shane, the Nats and 3D facing off, Maverick Shannon looking on in Raven's perch, Rhino/Christian) but the actual match was different enough to be good.

Key phrase being "so far". You heard Sting, he's getting a title shot.......when Sting's ready. I assume they want to settle Christian/Rhino first.....although with Rhino 0-2, I don't see how much more settled it can get right now.

That just drove home, for me at least, why they're doing Joe/Angle right now. Assume they do Joe/Sting at Genesis.......who does Kurt feud with? I don't really see anyone else in TNA on his level aside from Joe.

Again, 1) I don't even see Sting on Kurt's level(which doesn't say much for Sting), and 2) who does Joe feud with at Genesis?

Uh, yeah, that's been the problem for the past 4 years; despite the fact that the fans see him as a career midcarder, Jarrett keeps showing up, having 20 min interviews and technically sound yet BORING matches. Let him go "home"; maybe he'll sit, watch, and realize TNA doesn't need him in an on-camera capacity.

And did you not see Jeff's post-BFG promo? (Actually, forget I asked that; most people see Jeff with a mic and instinctively change the channel) He does care, he's just going "home" to recharge and think things over, allegedly leading to a return as a face.

Let me repeat that: JEFF JARRETT IS COMING BACK AS A FACE. For everyone who thinks the Fight for the Right tourney was a stupid idea, this makes the Chamber of Horrors look like the first WarGames match.

My point is merely that the reverse battle royal > battle royal > match > tournament concept is insanely overbooked, nearly impossible to follow, and generally useless. I'm not saying Christian, Joe, Angle, or Jarrett make for better title contenders than Abyss, just that the booking was in place to give any of those four a title shot without having to resort to that clusterfuck.

And if they knew they wanted Abyss to get the shot, then give Abyss a big win at Bound For Glory so as to set up a title shot. Not hard.

Why would a face use a line like that?

I never said I liked Jarrett. I don't want him as champion. But he's more deserving of the title than Sting is. That's not saying much for Jarrett - I'd put the title on Jarrett, Eric Young, Sirelda, or Jeremy Borash before I'd put the title on Sting.

That was kind of a messed up show but I can understand them continuing Christian/Rhino so they have some kind of big match for the Prime Time debut. Maybe after they end that Christian will still get in the Main Event at the ppv or maybe Sting will beat whoever wins the tournament and then face Christian at the next ppv. Whatever is the case I think Christian wins the title from Sting and then Christian is the one who loses it to Joe, and I think it's the right way to go too. It's just quesitionable on the methods they are using to get there.

As for Abyss getting the title shot, well he still has to win the tournament doesn't he? I mean I guess he makes the most sense since he's the top heel in the tournament but I wouldn't ever rule out AJ. AJ vs. Abyss or AJ vs Daniels would be another good match for the debut primetime show though.

I think the best thing that came out of this show was the Paparazzi stuff. As I said in the last TNA thread I think Starr would make a good addition to the Paparazzi and if Nash starts to get Starr over like he has for Shelley then that would be great. You also have another great heel tag team down the road when they need someone other than LAX to hold the titles although I'd like to see LAX hold the titles for a while. I just hope that Shelley's little bit of jealousy doesn't break these guys up already.

Now that TNA will FINALLY be booking Sting against people other than Jarrett and Steiner, they can start having some of the 'dream match' encounters that people were speculating about Sting for months. Sting/AJ would be a good start, and even Sting/Abyss would probably be good, given Sting's track record against large guys who can work (i.e. Vader). Then down the road, there's Sting/Joe, Sting/Angle, Sting/Christian, etc.

Sting needs a bat when he's fighting heel stables. He doesn't need it to fend off Christian.

The battle royal sold a lot of feuds at one time in an entertaining way. Hoyt made the most of his main-event bout.

Jarrett showed me a different character tonight, and if he can do something with it, I'll give him a chance. But he has to ditch the guitar. That's a deal-breaker.

Still don't care about Douglas or the Naturals. Possibly because Shane didn't help out his team in a three-way beatdown.

Robert Roode ain't showing me anything so far. I expected a WHOLE lot more from his build-up.

For me it wasn't so much that they had a one night, three-stage fiasco to set up a tournament. It was just the nature of the reverse battle royal. If you're, say, Shark Boy and you want to get in the ring to advance, why would you waste time fighting to keep, say, Ron Killings from getting in the ring? There are seven spots--who cares if Killings gets one of them as long as you get one of the others?

Of course, the real reason the wrestlers had to play defense and fight outside the ring instead of something that makes sense is that otherwise the gimmick would be exposed as little more than a game of musical chairs. You can make a match with more than two combatants and you can make a match where the objective to escape, but if you do both there's no reason for the wrestlers to fight each other. It reminds me of the first triple-threat escape-rules cage match I ever saw, where as soon as the bell rung the Rock and Ken Shamrock locked up while Mick Foley immediately tried to make a break for it, instantly making the whole idea look retarded. And as I recall, Russo booked that one too.

The reverse Battle Royal was better than it read on the spoilers. It's something different than just beginning a straight tournament. And where did Lance Hoyt come from? Was he hurt? He's been gone forever and comes back and has a entertaining match with Abyss.

And is Steiner still with TNA, I would have like to have seen him in the tournament.

And did Shane Douglas have a blood cap in his mouth? When they showed his face when he was chewing out the Naturals he barely moving his mouth. Maybe I was seeing things?

And on Jarrett turning face. When was the last time he was a face? 1996?

That was after he dropped the belt to Styles correct? I can vaguely remember it now.

And I knew Douglas put a blood cap in his mouth somewhere I just really didn't notice. I'll have to watch the replay.

Regarding the 'Tournament' AJ should win this. It would be good for TNA to show off one of their Top Names and Styles would most likely pull off a better title match with Sting than say Sting/Abyss.

Then say if AJ were to beat Sting for the title, that would make way for TNA to really push their younger talent and make the NWA Title worthwhile. AJ/Daniels (If they break the team, at this point it doesn't look likely), AJ/Abyss, AJ/Christian, AJ,Angle AJ/Joe etc......... All of these guys are gunning for the belt and all of these matches would show off TNA's superior "Wrestling Product."

Eventually leading up to AJ dropping the strap to either Joe or Angle and then TNA would have the time to REALLY pump up the Joe/Angle feud for when they go at each other for the Title!!!

Or possibly vacate the title (For what ever reason) hold a tournament that makes sense with all the key players involved and have Joe/Angle in the final. PPV buys would go through the roof for that match!

IMHO, this would make the most sense for TNA to further their product and to gain more exposure as they move to Primetime.

Was Jarrett a face during that quasi-ECW invasion angle he had vs. Raven back in 2002 or so? This was all the way back in the weekly PPV days, and I think I ordered the one leading up to the Jarrett/Raven match, the one with that match, and then the next week Disco Inferno became the #1 contender for the world title. Yeesh.
