Nope, it isn't a full recap like I used to do with RAW, but having noticed that no one has yet started the SmackDown thread, I thought I might take initative this time.

God, that Chavo/Rey I-Quit match was pretty freakin' NASTY, wasn't it? One of the best free-TV matches of the year if I do say so myself. And I was floored at the ending; if I were a betting man I'd have bet that Rey would never say "I Quit". And doubtless I'd be out a lot of money.

This was a loser-leaves-SmackDown match, though, wasn't it? It certainly seemed that way when the match was made, but no mention of that fact was made tonight, I don't think.

David Taylor? Wooo, Blue Bloods reunion! I'd love to see these two carve a path of destruction on their way to tag-team gold, and maybe make the SmackDown tag-team division, y'know, interesting again.

I'm not sure what MVP should stand for, but I'm pretty sure the "P" should stand for "pussy". Can a steel cage match with Kane be that far behind? You wanted competition, you've got it. I gotta say I love the character concept of a blowhard who absolutely cannot back it up. The Rock talked just as much smack but at least he then went out and beat the hell outta people. MVP, eh, not so much. It'll be fun to see him get his comeuppance.

Heck, speaking of the tag-team division, Sylvester Turkay and Elijah Burke could be division killers if they ever got anywhere near the tag-team title hunt. WWE seems content to have them as two singles wrestlers, though, and that's fine, too-- I could see Turkay as a future World Heavyweight Champion.

I fast-forwarded through the Diva Dance-Off thing, and having learned that Aaron Carter was a part of it, I'd do so another million times without any regrets at all.

I was hoping that Theodore Long would make Gregory Helms actually put up the Cruiserweight Title against Matt Hardy this week, but seeing him get stomped by The Undertaker was okay with me too. If I were Kennedy, I'd ruuuuun away, runnnn away and never return. (By the way, have you seen Kennedy's entrance in SvR '07? He actually introduces himself just like in real life, how freakin' awesome is that?! And he brings his voice down in pitch for the second ...."Kennedy" the way he used to, which I think sounds better.)

Speaking of surprising results (but this time not in a good way), I thought for sure Batista was going to win the World Title last night. A win by Booker would've been OK with me, too, but I hate main event title matches that end in disqualifications.

But overall, this was a very entertaining episode, I thought!

I thought the same thing too at first, but if it was a loser-leaves-Smackdown! match as originally billed, it makes more sense for Rey to lose. Who'd care if Chavo showed up on Raw?

The Blue Bloods reunion ruled. It's like WCW Satuday Night all over again. Where's High Voltage, The Gambler and Jumpin' Joey Maggs? (Oh wait, scratch that last one).

Loved JBL's description of William Regal and Dave Taylor:

"Two old fashioned wrestling hookers that love to get it on."

That's what the Blue Bloods' T-shirt should say.

You know, that's actually a very good point, there. Not to mention Chavo gets an enormous rub by being the guy who made Rey say those words.

Do we know Rey's going to Raw? I keep expecting them to swerve us by having someone lose one of these things and show up on ECW instead.

Yeah, but what does he do now? I can't see Chavo's heel act working when he accueses Vito or Matt Hardy of exploiting Eddie Guerrero's death.

Chavo and Vicky rule! Great, great match, and Chavo just brutalized Rey down to nothing. Them laughing and mocking Rey was heelishness at its best.

Bring on a US title reign for Jr. Hell, with the way midcarders are getting high profile slots, who's to say Chavo can't ride this to a main event program?

Good show, skipped the dance stuff and the Helms squash. Liked Regal's promo and their match. Batista has lost luster, hopefully a Finlay feud can get him back in the groov.

No Benoit though, thought that was odd.

Chavo is average at best and Vicky sucks. Helms/Taker was a good squash match. Helms kicking and scowling ring entrance alone was better than the dance off.
I thought the Cryme Tyme skit with Booker was solid too.

I know it's no big deal but I just hate it when any champion gets squashed. I mean I know it's Taker, but why totally devalue the crusierweight championship when there are plenty of other jobbers available to squash. Especially since we all know Helms can hold his own with bigger guys MUCH better than that.

I sure hope Teddy didn't sign MVP for much because he sucks.

Chavo/Rey was fantastic and it was good to see Chavo get the rub. I just hope his push doesn't disappear into no where.

I could see Chavo being transitioned into a US title feud with Benoit, somewhat along the same lines as the 'you're just Eddie's friend, you're not family' mindset. As for Rey actually leaving Smackdown, I thought he was taking six months off for a long-postponed knee surgery. Rey's biggest appeal is with kids, so it makes more sense for him to stay on the slightly more cartoonish Smackdown than to the more adult-centric Raw (or ECW).

Scene: Mark DeRosa's brain. The year is 2005.
Part of Mark DeRosa's brain: Come on, another position change? One day it's second base, the next day right field, now it's third? Why, I oughta go into Buck's office and throw his talking fish on the floor!
Other part of Mark DeRosa's brain: Hold on, other part of the brain. We're making $500,000 this year. Last year we made $725,000. All for playing a damn kids' game. This is, as they say in Brainland, a no-"us"-er. We're not going to complain.
Part of Mark DeRosa's brain: You're right, dude. Let's go back to looking at this crazy porn Teixeira gave us!

I thought of this too, but I was really hoping they'd quit casket surfing on Eddie someday soon.

I would think the eventual Benoit feud is more likely to be born out of Benoit kicking the snot out of Chavo for him being such an asshole towards Rey. I don't think it'll just be cycling Benoit in to take over Rey's Eddie-friend role.

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

A Jericho heel turn wouldn't work for just a short period of time, probably because he hasn't been a face for that long, but also because he has so many issues with heel Christian.
