Well, the Angle interview was pretty interesting. Sort of a shoot. Says TNA promised to stand behind him and make sure he was good physical condition and have doctors standing by 24/7. Explained what he was hooked on. Extra strength vikadin(sp?). Wanted to quit cold turkey.

8 Man X Division match slightly overshawdow by Nash saying it was at it's lowest, some agree or disagree that it is, point ever and he was coming back to make a tournement for them. Ok...little strange.

Problems with Diamonds in the Rough after a loss to Hoyt and Killings.

Videos of almost everybody talking about Sting/Jarrett coming up.

Finally, Samoa Joe has a no ref ladder challenge match with Chirstian Cage that yet still ends, Aybss running followed by Raven...Brother Runt...and Rhyno, with him still holding onto Jeff Jarrett's NWA World Title.

And from the West Coast -- I'll tack this onto jwrestle's thread, so apologies if I'm repeating stuff.

We have the quick pre-credits bit -- Jeremy Borash catches Jeff Jarrett and asks him about the title belt (which is still being carried around by Samoa Joe) -- JJ says that sometimes it's just not worth it and leaves.

And that selfsame Samoan is in the ring, ready to answer the question, "Hey, Joe, where you goin' with that belt in your hand?" Joe has the belt because, he says, for the last four years the belt has been held by "the worst of men" -- "paper champion after paper champion!" Joe says that he'll give the belt to the winner of the Sting/JJ match at Bound for Glory -- on the condition that they give Joe the first title shot!

This brings out Christian Cage, offended by the "paper champions" shot -- Joe assures him that he was primarily thinking of JJ, but CC is a very close second. Cage challenges Joe to a no-ref, no-rules, not-actually-a-match "ladder challenge" for the belt! The implication is that whoever gets it will have the leverage to demand a post-BfG title shot -- that's never made explicit, of course, since these guys are just making power plays without any actual authority to back it up.

I've never seen a ladder match (excuse me -- ladder CHALLENGE) where the goal is to get the belt, but neither guys have the title and the title isn't even on the line. WEIRD.

LAX is cutting a promo in back (they're hunting for GRINGO MEAT) when, at the very edge of the screen, we see a steel chair get BOUNCED off of Hernandez's skull! Styles & Daniels are here -- that's a pretty strategic move, taking out Hernandez first. Hernandez is busted open!

Back from commercial, LAX & S&D brawl down the ramp -- where'd Konnan go? -- around the ring -- over towards the LAX entrance -- up till now, S&D have been in pretty firm control, but Konnan is out and the tide turns. They SLAM Styles' head into a wall, and lock themselves and Daniels behind the border fence -- laying the beatdown on Daniels while Styles tries unsuccessfully to get over the fence. Security eventually breaks it up.

They have promos throughout the show hyping Sting/JJ -- Truth says that Sting be where it's at -- Rhino says that he has other things to worry about.

Roode is calling the managers he interviewed -- Heenan, the Colonel, Sherri -- to tell them they didn't get the job. There's a GIANT ROUND SHINY BOSOM stage right. Bobby stares at the GIANT BOSOM and gloats about what a good choice he made. Apparently we don't get to find out who his new manager is until BfG -- but COME ON. Unless Jimmy Hart is a changed man, I think we all know who it is.

JERRY LYNN talks to the Jackass Crew (Now! With more Sharkboy!) and tells them that he hopes they learned their lesson -- that the crowd thinks they're idiots, and that they should, you know, WRESTLE. Ha ha! I'm glad that TNA took the hint, subtle and gentle though it may have been. Sabin calls Lynn and "old man" and tells him to come out and watch what they can do. Tenay suggests that Sabin go back and watch his old tapes and see how Lynn put the X Division on the map. Yeah! Take that, you brat!

Senshi, Petey Williams, and The Paparazzi vs. Sabin, Dutt, Lethal and Sharkboy: Holy cats, is this the first actual match? This is pretty fun -- a combination of what I expect and what I want in a free, four minute, 8-man match. Some fun moves (including a nutty reverse huracanrana thing from Dutt on Devine) and fast action -- ending sees Shelley isolated in the ring and flapjacked, standing SSPed, and then rolled up by Sabin for the win. Lynn, on the ramp, claps like a proud papa.

Poor Shelley -- his star really has fallen. If only Nash -- OH WAIT here's Nash on the big screen right now! Nash says that he's sad that the X Division -- which he basically invented over the course of his 30-year career -- is at its lowest point EVER. SO: NEXT WEEK, Nash will have a PRESS CONFERENCE (yes! I was worried we'd have to go longer than a week without one!) to announce that at BfG, he will hold the Kevin Nash Invitational X Division Battle Royal Gauntlet Match.

More hype promos - Styles says he's rooting for Sting, and Cage refuses to face the camera (ha!).

DitR vs. Ron Killings & Lance Hoyt: Who was it that said that the latter team should be called THE TRUTH HOYTS? 'Cause that's awesome. Anyway, this is a short match -- DitR just aren't working together well -- Hoyt TKOs David Young and Truth rolls up Skipper with that Booker T roll-up out of the corner move (you know -- the one where he goes up and twists around into a sunset flip -- boy, Truth really does kipe a lot of Booker's moves, doesn't he?) for the pin. Simon Diamond is pissed! He TAKES OFF his sports coat and THROWS it at Skipper! David Young yells at Skipper and leaves! THE TRUTH comes in, hugs Skipper, and leaves! Skipper is TOTALLY CONFUSED. I wonder which ramp he left by!

OH -- during the match there was a backstage thing where Raven was trying to get Abyss and Runt on his side against "that coconut eater" (!!!) Samoa Joe.

Hype promos -- Shane Douglas says something but I kinda zoned out. Kip James is on Sting's side -- BG James calls him an ass! Wait, are we going to break up ALL the tag teams?

ANGLE INTERVIEW. He is not in the Impact zone -- this is more like a pre-taped promo deal. As jwrestle said, he claims that his doctors wanted to "wean" him off of the painkillers, but Angle decided to just quit them cold turkey. He says that there will be doctors monitoring him 24/7, and that he realizes now that his family is more important than wrestling. He takes very mild shots at WWE -- I as expecting worse, honestly -- he says that there was nothing left for him to prove there, that Vince McMahon told him that his Olympic Gold Medals didn't mean sh*t, and that Vince McMahon should watch what he does now. Hmm.

Samoa Joe vs. Christian Cage: Again, this is NOT A MATCH, it's an "UNSANCTIONED LADDER CHALLENGE." There is NO REF and NO RULES! They really should have turned off the house lights for a few seconds before starting the match. When was the last time someone did that?

Pretty fun ladder match type stuff. Christian is wily, Joe is tough. Christian dropkicks Joe from inside the Ring while Joe is outside getting the ladder. When Cage goes out to get the ladder, Joe gets back into the ring -- and hits a SUICIDE DIVE onto the ladder that Cage is holding!

Back from commercial, Joe kicks the ladder into Cage's crotch -- Cage hits a reverse DDT off the ladder -- Joe lays the ladder on top of Cage and hits his running senton onto it! (I'm only hitting the highlights here, understand.) Cage knocks Joe out of the ring -- goes up the ladder -- Joe is back and leaps EIGHT FEET INTO THE AIR to kick Cage in the head! MUSCLE BUSTER!

Abyss comes out and BLACK HOLE SLAMS Joe -- HE goes up the ladder -- since this is NOT A MATCH, he hopes that HE can get a title shot if he's in possession of the belt! Runt and Raven come out and work together to slam Abyss off the ladder. Raven and Abyss end up fighting on the outside and Runt hits a splash from the ladder inside the ring onto both of them!

Cage goes up the ladder -- GRABS THE BELT! But Joe is up the ladder, too, and they tussle over the belt -- Rhino is out now, and shoves the ladder over! He and Joe (who has the belt) stare each other down -- Rhino GORES Cage!

And we're out. I thought it was a fun show -- lots of action. No great matches, but I didn't get bored. It helped that the main event was -- well, not a match, of course, it was a CHALLENGE -- but at least it wasn't an interview!

STUDY QUESTIONS

1. How many times (excluding hype promo-type shots) did Jeff Jarrett appear tonight? Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

2. MULTIPLE CHOICE: Nash returning will help:
a) TNA as a whole
b) The entire X Division
c) Alex Shelley, at least
d) Nash and only Nash

3. TRUE/FALSE: Breaking up DitR right now is the best thing to do with them.

4. TRUE/FALSE: If you don't know what to do with a black wrestler, you should always team them up with another black wrestler.

5. Since the Main Event was NOT a match, and since Cage took down the belt and Joe ended up with it, can both men continue to claim that they are undefeated? Justify your answer.

Sorry, I know that the the James Gang aren't the "internet darlings", but I'm gonna be pissed if they break them up. And if TNA thinks that a feud between the 2 will get over, maybe they should look at some old WWF tapes (instead of watching old WCW tapes).

1. Twice. This is a good thing.

2. d) Nash and only Nash

3. FALSE

4. TRUE according to the unpublished rules of bad booking. However it is supposed to be deprecated in favor of "If you don't know what to do with a black wrestler, make him talk funny." This is based on the King Bookah gimmick and how it has been universally loved by the common fan.

5. Yes, both men can continue to claim that they are undefeated. This claim is based on the fact that the booker wants them to make that claim and does not require supporting evidence from reality. There is no justification for that reasoning. It just is.

EXTRA CREDIT: Nobody will admit to knowing who this child is, but he has been seen at TNA tapings in the company of Jeremy Borash. Draw your own conclusions.

*It was a fun show to watch and I feel better about Kurt coming to TNA than I did before I saw the promo, but I still wish he had taken 6 months off at least. It will take some time for me to NOT get the willies when I see him in the ring....

TNA has made the Angle interview available (youtube.com).

Wearing the American flag seems kinda....over the top.

Hey! By accident, the Angle interview is the first Impact I've seen in two months, maybe...

As jwrestle said, he claims that his doctors wanted to "wean" him off of the painkillers, but Angle decided to just quit them cold turkey.

I find this incredibly unlikely.

He says that there will be doctors monitoring him 24/7,

Monitoring him, sure, that possible. Angle listening to them seems much more unlikely.

that Vince McMahon told him that his Olympic Gold Medals didn't mean sh*t

This seems like a line they pulled completely out of context - it's much more something Vince would've said on his first day working for the company than his last (which was implied.)

he claims that his doctors wanted to "wean" him off of the painkillers, but Angle decided to just quit them cold turkey.
I'm just not sure why this is relevant, true or not. Is he saying the doctors' "wean plan" was bad advice? Or does he bring that up to imply that he wanted to quit faster than they wanted him to? Or to show us just how badly he wants to get clean? I'm not sure.

That statement just didnt seem to fit within the context of everything else he said.

So, has Jarrett only defended the title once on TV/PPV since he won it?

I can only remember the initial Sting defense being it.

That's WCW-Hogan like standards...

To me, it devalues the title when that fucker just collects dust.

TNA would be best served by having a fighting champion who defends every week, giving you a reason to tune in.

Hahaha. Great quiz. The Observer had a bit about Terry Taylor wanting to segretate put Truth, Elix, and Monty Brown in a group called B.E.T. Credit for heads-up initials work I guess.

I took it as being out of context, but still something said on his last day. I pictured Angle telling McMahon "You can't fire me! Do you know what I mean to this company? I'm the only Olympic Gold Medalist you have!" and then follow with McMahon telling him his medals don't mean shit, which in that context is true. Either way, I understand that he's probably as bitter and upset as can be, but bringing up anything from the day he was fired was a bad idea.

I agree -- but mostly because I really don't want to see either one of them in a singles run, and I think they're acceptable as a tag team. I take it you like them more than I do, though...?

Jeez -- I mean, I love LAX with all my tiny heart, and I'm absolutely delighted that they've broken out as big as they have, but I think that making another ethnically-based 3-man stable will not make lightning strike twice -- plus, more importantly, it would diminish the impact of LAX.

I hope Elix gets some kind of a push (I know he tends to be all over the map quality-wise, but I like him) and David Young is an absolute albatross.

Hey, no one (besides rinberg, who is WRONG! but you get a silver star anyway) wants to take a guess at the extra credit question? How about if I tell you that he's a current TNA employee?

I was surprised to hear Angle say that his family came before wrestling while TNA plays up his return to the ring. Why should you -- the casual wrestling fan -- care about Angle when he says upfront he'll walk away if the two are at odds? And isn't that Sting's gimmick?

I completely forgot that Christian held the NWA belt. I thought Tenay screwed up by calling him a former champ.

Glad to see Killings is still around. I thought he was out of TNA after his match with Christian.

Maybe it's the build-up to the PPV, maybe it's Russo's influence, but TNA is very entertaining lately. Each match has something that holds my interest (even when it includes Chris Sabin, TNA's Billy Kidman).

I hate it when TNA wrestlers mention WWE in promos. It makes them seem bush league, like they're trying to give themselves the rub from the bigger company. In WWE's world, there are no other wrestling companies; wrestlers who are new to WWE are treated as if they magically sprang to life the day before. And that makes them seem more important and legitimate. Anyone agree? disagree?

They are trying to get the rub from the bigger company. No need to pretend that Kurt Angle a bright-eyed newcomer. When you're a start-up (which in the business world TNA still is) you have to leech off other companies. If Peyton Manning quits the NFL for Arena Football, they'd sure as hell promote that. It IS bush league, but when you're trying to draw money you gotsa do it. TNA also has a niche audience. Now when Jeff Hardy returns to WWE, there's no point promoting his TNA accolades, because 98% of the audience doesn't know what TNA is.

Before this leads to a complete off-topic discussion, I'll just say I completely disagree. Acting as if competition doesn't exist is both insulting to the viewer and comes off as petty.

You don't see this happen in many other places. In the ultimate fighting world, UFC is starting to not mention the words "Pride Fighting" (their main competitor), but most companies don't follow that.

Impact was very solid. I liked the interaction between all - even the Nash segment.

And Hogan rarely defended his WWF belt on TV during the 80s. So I don't see the point about Jarrett not defending a lot lately. Big deal. Pick a side - you either hate him being on TV (and "taking up time" that should be used to build up the other wrestlers) or you hate him not being on TV. If Jarrett defends every week, then he'd be burying everyone until he's scheduled to lose the belt. Is that what anyone wants? The title gains more prestige when it's rarely defended - puts more emphasis on the title matches.

Nothing he's done so far in TNA has benefitted him, most of what he's done has actually made him look worse in most people's eyes. Meanwhile he HAS gotten Shelley over despite TNA doing jack squat with him. I'm not saying Kevin Nash is Mr. Team Player or anything but his last return did help someone more than it helped himself. Plus it's not Nash's fault that people could care less about Chris Sabin.

It is Nash's fault that he developed a mysterious knee injury, thus ensuring that he didn't do a single pinfall job in the entirety of his X-Division angle so far.

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. At least have him wrestle on a regular basis or advance the feud in an interesting way, like erhm..confrontations with the oponent. You don't see John Cena do some skits backstage and then leave. He is at least actively involved with the person he is feuding with. This all is not Jarrett's fault though. It's TNA and Sting's fault. If he cannot even "bother" to show up, there is absolutely no way JJ can pour more heat on. They have to keep repeating the same thing over and over without any chance of an interesting developement.
Even if Sting wasn't there, and you let Jarrett wrestle he can cut a promo after the match saying he is gonna beat Sting just like he beat this sob (and then El-Kabong him)
