It’s time to wake up for Monday NIGHT RAW! Live from Topeka, KS

Welcome back to the weekly report on Monday nights. Did you miss me? Apparently broken records aren’t welcome around here. I’m taking a monkey wrench to a radar too.

OPENING: JR and Jerry Lawler at ring side to call all the action. They point out tonight that John Cena, the current WWE Champion, will defend the title tonight against Edge in a 15ft high steel cage.

DX music hits and they make there way to the ring as we’re shown the last time we saw Shane McMahon at Unforgivien. Crowd won’t let them do the “Lets get ready to suck it stick.” So they show Vince on the Titan Tron buried in the Big Show ass. They finally get the “Lets get ready to suck it.” line off. HBK has the mic but wait Coach is out.

Coach: DX you think you run Monday nights. The crowd tell Coach he sucks. That’s when he tell us we’re having a Texas Tornado match Out come Cade and Murdoch, Highlanders, and Vis with Haas. A few minutes of action and DX is dominating the match. Did anybody expect anything different? Haas…spinbuster, top rope elbow drop, superkick, and Pedigree. 1…2….3! DX wins…Coach says cut the music. Crowd: “You Suck.” at the Coach again. “You’ve won a battle but not the war.” HHH finally asks Coach if he runs Monday Night Raw. Coach says yes. Apparently HHH doesn’t like that answer so they are off and after him.

***AD BREAK***

We’re Back: Review of Jeff Hardy beating Shelton Benjamin. Out comes Johnny Nitro w/ Melina. JR sound odd talking about Melina having “3 way sex”. Out comes Jeff Hardy. Boy did they every shine up the IC belt…wonder if it is a new one. Ok, here we go the bell has rung and Nitro being the aggressive one getting kicks and punches in taking him down. Whip the rope and Hardy comes back with a Flying Clothesline, leg split into the double leg drop to the bread basket. Head scissors in the corner by Jeff Hardy. Johnny Nitro rolls to the outside of the ring. Hardy follows…Melina distracts him but moves from the sneak attack from Nitro. To the ring apron dive onto Nitro which leads to the run in ad break.

***AD BREAK***

We’re Back: It’s a slugfest in the middle of the ring. Nitro whips Hardy the corner and misses the Whisper in the Wind. Nitro is working on Jeff Hardy in the corner with knees to the lower back. Sliding dropkick sends Hardy into the ring post. Back breaker and with a cover….1…2…and a kick out by Jeff Hardy. Nitro working Hardy with a knee to the back. Hardy reverses the move as he works his way up. Jeff hits a flip kick to the face of Nitro and starts building momentum. Hardy hits a spin wheel kick. Melina helps Nitro to the outside but Hardy follows and take them both down. It looks as if Melina might not be able to get back up. Nitro and Hardy on the turnbuckle in the corner and Jeff fights off Johnny and he’s prone. He climbs to the top and hits the Swanton! 1….2….3! We have a new Intercontinral champion in Jeff Hardy. They show some of the Edge/Cena history dating back to January when Edge used his Money In The Bank to win his first WWE championship. DX is shown in the back trying to get in office where Coach has locked himself in. HHH finally tells Coach to stop doing what he’s doing because it’s a sin or at least HBK said it is. The split cuts show he was doing nothing but not wanting to open the door.

***AD BREAK***

We’re Back: Maria interviews Jeff Hardy…Melina come in and says two lines and then starts screaming! SCREAMING! SHIT the glass behind me just shattered! Jeff attempts to get her quite by covering her mouth. It stops and then she starts again. Finally Jeff gives up as she’s still screaming. Coach is on the phone with Vince and basically Vince apparently says to go find them. A game of cat and mouse has started. Coach starts searching for DX. He finally finds HHH down one hall way. Coach gets ready to turn back but HBK is behind him. The 1950’s western music plays and the tumbleweed has rolled in. Yes, it was on the ground in front of Coach. He runs forward into the Women’s locker room. You hear some quick screams…HHH tells HBK they have to go in…Shawn covers his eyes and they go in. HHH pushes HBK through the other door while stays to chat with Mickie, Tori, and Kelly Kelly. Finally HBK finally comes back to get HHH. Coach slips on a wet floor that’s being mopped. DX catches up with him and sends him out with the garabage.

***AD BREAK***

We’re Back: DX informs there Spirit Squad there is a new dress code. They question it until HHH pulls out sledgy. Umaga is out and he’s taking Snitskey. Snitksey lands a shoulder block and then distracted by Armondo. Umaga hits the Samoan drop, something else I missed then the Samoan Spike. 1….2….3! Todd Grisham is standing by to interview Orton. He says he’s cooler than Carlito and the RKO is even cooler. JR reminds us that the match LIVE next!

***AD BREAK***

We’re Back: John Cena in the Marine and he did most of his stunts. That’s what he says. HEY, Hey! Randy Orton is out for his match. Carlito is out. Orton taking it to Carlito in the beginning of this wrestling match. Throws Carltio to the ring post and continues to punish Carlito. In the corner torching his arm back. Wow…Carlito turns the match around and starts whipping out springboard moves like a Smackdown video game. He goes for a springboard cross body. Orton rolls through and hooks the tights for a three count. In the back DX is saying the Spirit Squad has to come out or they’ll be stripped of the Tag Titles. They say give them a minute and they’ll be out. HBK says they’ll die…it might not be such a bad thing.

***AD BREAK***

We’re Back: Hey it’s a Cryme Tyme skit. This is the perfect time to get arrested. Well t hat was interesting. Here come the Spirit Squad and they need DUCT TAPE! I’ve seen a guy in Hooters outfit before but this takes the cake as Lillian is even laughing. OMG it’s the SARGE! Sgt. Slaughter is out for action here on Monday Night Raw. A kick to the Sarge and he doesn’t feel it. Cobra clutch but Nicky make it to the rope. Gut buster and a two count. Chop in the corner as Sgt is in control of the match. Sgt goes tumbling over the top rope. It’s a four on one assault. USA chant. Sleeper hold by Nicky of the Spirit Squad. Reversed into the Cobra clutch. Nick escapes the move. Sgt in an armbar. DX distracts Nicky and Sgt rolles up Nicky for a 1…2…3! More Cena and Edge history that they’ve been showing all night that I haven’t typed. If you’re watching then you know if you’re just actually reading this it just been the year in history with most of the WWE title changes. Why does this feel like they’re actually building up a Raw title change. Hmm…we shall see here shortly. Hey, they are actually starting a tournament for the WWE Women’s title. I’m behind Lita has already advanced. DX says they ladies have to wrestle in lingerie. Victoria elbowing Mickie James in the back Mickie turns it around with a reverse elbow to the face. They battle over to the corner where Victoria tries to steal the win. Mickie rolls her forward for a 1…2…3! Mickie advances in the Women’s Championship tournament.. They plug Eric Bishoff and his new book. Then DX arrives to see Chris Master and Eric Bishoff chatting about the new book. Eric says DX was a rip off of the nWo. Well, he who laughs last laughs best. DX laughs.

***AD BREAK***

We’re Back: By my clock it 10:42pm and we’re set to have the Main Event Cage match. Who is going to walk out of Monday Night Raw tonight with the WWE championship? John Cena…Edge? Lita factor seems to be out the door with the cage but we will see. They’re already slugging it out. A bad arm on Cena apparently in recent weeks. Edge kicking Cena. Edge working the arm and then into standing drop kick on Cena.. Cena pulls Edge back in and a back suplex. Cena chant. Edge climbing up the cage but Cena stops him from the excape. Edge nails an Impailer DDT out an FU attempt by Cena. Blockbuster type maneuver by Cena…Cena climbing the cage. Spear into the CAGE! Cena goes down. Cena stops Edge from trying to escape. Cena face plants EDGE from the top turnbuckle. Who’s going to win? Run in ad break.

***AD BREAK***

We’re Back: Cena working his way up from a headlock by EDGE. Belly to belly suplex with only one good arm by Cena. Two count follows. Edge hits a spin wheel kick and a two count. Edge goes for the door but no Cena I there to cut him off. Edge straddling the cage. Cena there and both men are nerly twenty feet in the air battling it out. They are both down back on the mat. Edge hung…there goes his “Manhood”. Cena send EDGE into the cage and starts hitting his five moves of doom. You can’t see him. FU but Edge grabes the cage and send Cena into it. Counter counter counter counter! Edge drops Cena and a two count. Lita hand Edge a chair and she’s ejected. Edge going for a flying clothesline on Cena but takes out the referee on impact. Steel chair takes Edge down and STFU. Cade and Murdoch are going to help Edge steal the title. No! DX comes to rescue and helps Cena. FU! 1….2….3!

John Cena is STILL the WWE Champion. He’s done it. It’s a 11:06pm and Cena is standing tall going into Family Reunion next week for a big three hour show. Don’t for get ECW tomorrow, SmackDown Friday and the big extravaganza next Monday. Not totally a lame Raw but it had low points. Should’ve watched Heroes for once.

Ya know, if DX keeps beating these tag teams, Coach will have to bring a team in that will be a little tougher to beat....I like how it wasn't enough that DX destroyed the tag division last week, they did it AGAIN, except this time ALL AT ONCE....Hardy/Nitro was a pretty good little match, and unlike some, I like what I've seen from Jeff since his return....

The Melina screaming segment accomplished nothing except making my ear drums bleed....That long DX/Coach backstage segment was so bizarre it was funny. I don't know, I liked it....It doesn't seem like there's anything left for Umaga to do here (clearly not wanting to push him to the main event), so I wonder if he'll somehow lose to Kane and go to Smackdown....

Orton/Carlito wasn't that good....Not sure what the point of dragging Slaughter out to face the SS....Mickie/Victoria was okay....Boy, Masters is really getting punked out. That goes to show, even if they don't take you off the road, they can still embarrass you on TV (even though Masters WAS taken off the road, but you get what I'm saying)....The main event was okay, I could've done without all the extracurricular stuff.

What? HHH said "those guys are so gay" and HBK said "not that there's anything wrong with that." I really thought you were going to stop doing these was your ban was up, which is the main reason I haven't joined the piling on, but if you're going to continue to ignore the message and insist on doing these recaps, why not take your time and get some things right? You don't offer any valuable insight, so I'm assuming the point of these posts is to recap the show for those who missed it ... but you're not doing that! If you really think you're offering something here, than I wish you didn't feel like you had to post this the *second* the show went off the air.

Now, the main event wasn't bad and I liked the Nitro/Hardy match. Even Carlito/Orton was OK (and I like King's reaction - "why does Carlito keep trying those moves off the ropes on Orton"), but man am I *sick* of DX. First off all, they're not DX. DX was Michaels and Helmsley pushing the envelope - now, HBK is afraid to look in the women's locker room? I know it's just to sell merchandise, but come on.

And that's overlooking the fact that tonight didn't make a damn bit of sense. Coach is gone, so HHH and HBK are in charge, just because they said so? What the fuck is that about? I know DX killed the Spirit Squad's credibility months ago (by the way, when is that SS breakup supposed to happen, again? July was it?), but way to make them look like complete fucking idiots.

Michaels moreso than HHH doesn't look like a rebel in this, he looks like a 40 year old man trying to look like a rebel. This is lame, and I'm glad that up until the moment I started typing this, when the Eagles started pulling away, that there was a good game on ESPN for me to switch to during the more boring skits.

somebody help me on this one but in the main event did the referee that made Lita leave the ring area run back down and open the cage for Cade and Murdock? if so why? Are cage matches now no DQ so that if you want to interfere all ya gotta do is walk down there and tell someone to open the cage? Might have seen it wrong as I was reading and watching at the same time.

Pretty boring night as far as wrestling goes, not a bad comedy show though, Hehe guess you just have to look at it from different views now and then.

I am liking Jeff Hardy more than the last time he was in WWE. At least he doesn't grab his arm and nurse it the entire match like he used to.

Only other thing is Victoria. I still remember "crazy" Victoria who was almost unbeatable and sure enough a good wrestler and fighter. What has happened to that character?

The people who write Raw are really, really, really shitty at writing. How can you tell? Because they write for Raw. That was some of the stupidest shit yet. DX is the worst gimmick of the year. This is the worst title tournament ever. Hot main event though.

Line of the night:

"what's it going to be about? How to lose 50 pounds in four weeks?"

Not a bad show, not too great either. Good to see Mickey out there again, but whey did she have a thong on UNDER her panties?

Main event was okay, but the build during the show made me think it was going to be far more epic.

Punked out on national TV and by HHH non the less as someone has nicely put it. Funnier if it was how to lose 50lbs of muscle in four weeks.

From the looks of it she did and boy was that cool to watch slip out a bit.

I don't remember any cage match ending in DQ before. I suppose someone can correct me on that, but it would be silly in a bout where you can bash people into the cage and whatnot. I didn't see the ref open the cage for them, but I took it as a "losing control" type of scenario and not at all as a situation that is permitted by the rules. It is stupid, however, to have endless run-ins alter the outcome of a steel cage match. The whole point of a cage match is to keep other parties out. Once you take that aspect away, cage matches are rendered kind of pointless.

I liked the dX skit with the beat-off jokes. But really, chasing off the G.M. making them the leaders is retarded. Triple H does this stuff frequently; it's as if he just figures since most of the audience knows he's in the family, he doesn't need to explain the control he wields on-screen. Shawn covering his eyes? I mean, jeez. The rest of it was annoying. They weren't even scantily-clad. And Triple H making thinly-veiled steroid insults is really, really stomach-churning. He's been bulking up and flattening out for years. Glass house, big-nose. Next we'll have Jake Roberts out to scold Orton on his drinking.

Speaking of Orton, that match blew. I assume he's gotta return this job in the blowoff of this feud. If there's a God, at least.

Two good matches, anyway. Really liked the IC Title match. Nice to see a title change hands on RAW, keeps that anything-can-happen feeling which has long been missing. The IC title came off like a big deal, as well. I'm glad to see Jeff mostly keeping things together. Other than that one mishap in MSG I haven't seen him screw up. He looks healthy, strong, and most importantly motivated. Having the belt on someone who actually has some name-value, instead of using as a prop to establish a nobody, is what titles were meant for, IMO.

The ME was, once again very good. I think Edge and Cena have some of the best chemistry of the past few years. I'm surprised so many people find their matches just "okay". They just click, and as drawn out as their feud has been, they haven't had a match that hasn't held my attention from start-to-finish. If it's over, my concern is what will replace it? There doesn't seem to be any obvious feud waiting for Cena.

The reason I didn't like this match as much as their past ones include:

- The screwy finish, with all those people getting involved. The ref is going to ban Lita, but make no attempt to stop all those other guys?

-Cena's iffy selling of the arm. Sitting on top of the cage, he's punching Edge with his hurt arm. Simply giving the arm a little shrug afterwards, before resuming the punching, isn't too convincing.

-Their stupid "look, it's Marines cheering Cena, cause he's in a movie called The Marine!" flashes to the audience.

-And Edge looking like a dumbass, sticking his head out of the door just begging HHH to slam it on his head. Of course, for some reason, they were afraid to deliver on this, and instead had Michaels kick one of the heels into the door.

It wasn't a bad match, but it wasn't their best. As for what's next, it seems like a DX/Edge feud could be brewing, based on that staredown, but the decision to not have HHH slam the door in his face leaves me kind of doubting it.

The ref in the ring had been knocked down, and Cena had the STFU applied on Edge. The ref on the outside saw this after he threw Lita out and wanted to go in to check for the submission, so he was trying to open the cage. Once he got it open, Cade and Murdoch attacked to prevent him from getting in, taking him out, and going in to attack Cena.

It did make sense, really. ;)

Triple H entertained the hell out of me tonight.

- his John Laurinatis impression.

- "Hey, what's going on here, a gratuitous plug?"

- "Yeah, when are YOU writing a book?"

The women's locker room bit also begs the question of what Kelly Kelly is doing at a Raw event?

She was letting the Raw divas know that she's only 19. Oh, and that she's an exhibitionist.

I actually think it is Kane who has nothing to do on Raw, so he loses next week. Umaga could potentially go on to face either Hardy or more likely Cena at some point. He is also the one with the undefeated streak. What does Kane have on his plate? However, over at Smackdown, Kane could have Kennedy and/or King Booker.

So does anyone think that the antics of Victoria after her match means the return of crazy Victoria, or was that just a throw away tantrum?

Look, I don't like either guy involved in that exchange, but that was really, really hypocritical of HHH to drop that line, since (a) HHH is no stranger to the juice, and (b) WWE's "policy" for pushing people drove Masters to that problem. It was just burying the guy for the sake of burying him. Reportedly, Masters went through a tough time during his withdrawal/recovery, so the dude "paid his dues". No need to go out and rub his nose in it on national TV.

As for the rest of the show: liked the ME, the rest of the show ran the gamut from "meh" to "bad". I could've done without all the stuff at the end of the ME, though. You've got your top face & top heel fighting over the top belt. Let them carry the match without having to rely on others to build the finish, y'know? Unless that was the seed to do Edge vs. HBK and/or HHH.

The John Laurunatis thing was the first thing in a long time on WWE TV that I've rewound and watched again.

DX needs to just go away. And, if the purpose of the Spirit Squad is to punish them, why do they still have the tag titles?
If you are going to have a blow-off to Edge/Cena let it be done without any interference. Also, they need to decide whether to go with the old WWF rules of escape to win for a cage match or the old NWA rules of pinfall and submission. Pick a method and stick with it, don't combine them.
If they are going to have someone who just screams, bring back Daphne and let Melina go away.
In terms of Umaga/Kane, Umaga should win and Kane should be sent to ECW. Putting Kane on the Sci-Fi network means they could actually justify any Kane bullshit storyline by pointing to the network they are on. It would be the perfect fit.

JR gave away the ending of the Nitro/Hardy match by suggesting Nitro was kissing the belt goodbye.

The opening did everything it could to get Chez Tracker to switch to the football game and stay there. Much of the night was no better. Hardy/Nitro was fine, Slaughter/Spirit Squad was not. How weird to see DX help Sarge get a win. Also, whenever I see the man now, I hear Cobra Commander yell in my memory "that man has the constitution of a vending machine!"

Wonder what Edge will move onto now, the IC belt? A DX feud with Cade/Murdoch? The latter seem to have been thoroughly beaten by DX already.

But usually, announcers are always wrong in this instance. Like when someone goes for a cover and the announcer says, "that's it, it's over!," it generally never is.

This wasn't that kind of situation. JR could easily have mentioned that the kiss suggests the belt means more to him than Melina or that all he cares about is the belt or that he was probably kissing his own reflection. You know, selling his arrogance. It was so awkwardly placed as a comment that I suspected it foretold the ending, and, unfortunately, it did.

My problem with cage matches in general these days is the rule where the referee opens the door for you and you can escape that way. Completely horrible, and makes wrestling look extra fake. If you can leave out the door, why would you ever attempt climbing over the top? Or pinning? Or trying a submission? I know I'm supposed to suspend disbelief, but a cage match is supposed to be harder to win, not easier, than a normal match. It should really be that you have to climb over the top to win, and that's it. Cage matches used to be the ultimate blowoff to a feud because the heel manager couldn't interfere; now the cage door is just another prop for wacky heel hijinks.
