What does this mean for his contractual status?

My understanding was that when a WWE wrestler gets a release, they have a 90-day no compete clause. The purpose of that clause is so that they don't just jump to TNA (and they use fact that they still owe wrestlers PPV money months after the event to keep people from violating the clause).

Does Angle get no money from WWE now?

I believe it's that if they fire you, they can't keep you from working but continue to pay your downside during the no-compete as incentive to ... not compete. But if you work somewhere else you forfeit that money (which for Kurt was something like a million dollars per year).

With regard to PPV payments owed, are the bonuses calculated by card placement (ie, main eventers get more) or does each wrestler's contract stipulate the percent of the cut they get? If it's the former, Kurt hasn't really been a significant part of a Pay Per View since Wrestlemania. He curtain jerked or came close to doing so with Orten twice and barely got into the upper card with Mark Henry back in May. If it's the latter, ignore this paragraph.

I hope that Kurt will at least continue his more grounded style when he gets back in the ring. As a fan of his, I really wish he used this time to get his life back in order, rather than finding the quickest way to get back into the ring.

Yeah, me too. I feel pretty conflicted about this -- I mean, I think it's a hundred times better for Kurt to work one or two days every couple of months (assuming he'll be on a "Sting" schedule) with TNA than to do ANY MMA stuff at all. But still.

Man, I dunno. I have mixed feelings about Kurt joining if all the stories about Kurt having physical problems are true. On the upside, if TNA does keep the same pace of shows that they already had (as others above have stated), then he'll be able to heal up better between shows. Still, I would have been happier to hear that he decided to stay at home, counting his money, working with kids in amateur wrestling and living a normal life than this. It just depresses me more than makes me want to watch TNA.

Welcome back, Kurt. Sure, you'll be in a wheelchair in about ten years, but at least you'll be on my TV again. Um...yay?

The sad thing is, a lot of the TNA wrestlers work a lot stiffer than the WWE roster, so Kurt's shelf life just got a whole lot shorter. And for what? It's not like TNA can offer a whole lot more money than WWE. Is this REALLY worth it?

Oh, and if it's true that TNA is about to come to terms with Goldberg, look out! Get Kurt a helmet, QUICK!

TEN YEARS AGO IN WRESTLING HISTORY: SEPTEMBER 1996
WWF: Shawn Michaels d. Mankind at Mind Games, one of the 90's best matches. Also, some guy named Steve Austin made it his personal mission to bring Bret Hart back to the ring.

WCW: The nWo prevailed in War Games with the help of a Fake Sting. The real Sting walked out on WCW, kicking off one of the biggest angles in the company's history.

I hope this doesn't stop WWE from doing what I think is the right thing the next time they have a wrestler who they think is on the verge of killing himself.

This was a big surprise, indeed.

The real question is, will Kurt get along with Russo, who is now writing the shows for TNA?

You know, It's False said that Kurt might be in a wheelchair in ten years because of this, but I don't agree. It seems quite Macabre, but Kurt goes #1 in Flea's deadpool.

And here's hoping I am very, very wrong.

What happened to that big letter he wrote to the fans?

This sure makes TNA a player, but if he dies on them they're gonna get a lot of shit.

Lord, please watch over Kurt Angle. I hope the considerably lighter schedule (both from a travel and frequency standpoint) help keep him healthier than he was, but I hope he isn't making the mistake that'll cost him his life or cause him to be paralyzed.

I just don't think this is true. Angle's schedule will be way easier now, and it's not like he's going to be out there taking Gringo Killas and Canadian Destroyers every week -- or, you know, ever.

Which isn't to say that Angle shouldn't just stay at home, because as near as I know, he should. But saying that TNA will take a harder toll on his body than WWE did seems kinda goofy.

It is a positive move for TNA. A few months ago when Kurt was inserted as the key guy for ECW people raved that it instantly brought credibility to ECW. Well, this does bring credibility to TNA and will have a far greater impact (no pun) than Christian jumping. If it is a risk/rewards question involving helping business or career ending injury/death occurring, TNA comes out ahead with Kurt Angle compared to Vince's signing of Jeff Hardy. Both are high risk, but the reward side for Angle far exceeds that of Hardy.

It's the drugs that is the key though. Angle said he couldn't compete anymore without them and said that is why he was leaving. Are we to believe he has kicked the habit already? TNA also signed a Curt Hening and Crash Holly that were released by the WWE for similar reasons and that didn't really work out in anyones favor.

I don't see how this helps TNA in the long-term. I see this as another Sting or Christian for them. Sting who failed to produce long-term results for TNA. Christian who TNA brought in and made into a face world champion almost upon entrance which was also a mistake. Christian who is just now starting to be the character he should be in TNA.

I think this is bad for Angle and wrestling, and bad for TNA.

On the TNA forums, a couple of certain people actually went out of the way to explain and suggest that Angle's circumstances were just him "working the WWE." What the fucking hell?!!!
