To be real, anyone who follows Impact on a weekly basis knows that Jarrett does not wrestle every week, nor does he take up more than 4-5 mins tops on most shows - the last time he took up any significant time was the lie detector test, which even I will admit is stupid. TNA should avoid sports entertainment drama like this and focus on what makes them different - the WRESTLING.

Mini-rant over.

Eh. Ron's a charismaless "agile big man" who no one's really given a shit about for a while, the PhenomAngels and LAX are already being pushed, as is Christian, and the less we see of RoachHogg, No One and Scott Steiner, the better.

IOW, all this could already be going on without the presence of one of the major contributing factors of WCW's death.

It is not humanly possible for this to end well.

I officially start the TNA Death pool, and I take November 17, 2007.

Wait, TNA actually had a "lie detector test" segment on their program?

Yes, because the lie detector test was the ENTIRETY of the show that week, and, in fact, every week. /sarcasm

Hey, you know how WWE wrestlers get tryout matches before they're signed? Maybe the lie-detector thing was Russo's tryout angle!

And as if that's not enough, Meltz is ALSO reporting that Buff Bagwell and Lex Luger will be on the next Impact tapings. I'm guessing this time they won't just be "what's behind the door" in a one-off angle.

You know, I kind of wished for TNA to harken back to the glory days of WCW, but this is NOT what I had in mind. Yuck.

As SPF said, losing out on a possible Goldberg run (even if it were just a brief run to see BFG) would be reason enough to not bring in Russo...if Russo himself weren't already good reason.

When did anyone ever say TNA had a shot? I'm confused. Spike TV (not TNA) signed him to a 3-month window of exclusivity for potential projects. With all the different projects Spike works on and develops, I never once assumed the much slimmer Goldberg was ever negotiating with TNA. Simply because it was never mentioned by anyone - only speculated on by the wishful thinking of internet fans.

I don't understand why anyone believes he *could* be the surprise when in the last two months he's been saying left and right that he's training for a MMA career, UFC people have even been quoted saying the same thing, and photos from the last UFC PPV show that he's lost a LOT of the muscle mass he once had. If I'm wrong, so be it. But I've read and heard nothing suggesting that he's any closer to considering a run with TNA than Hulk Hogan or the Ultimate Warrior. As for the photos, I remember seeing them somewhere on Myspace.

I'd rather have Russo book TNA than see another of Goldberg's boring matches. Both have been done to death in wrestling, but at least with Russo there's a chance of more variety.

Spike and UFC have a close relationship so perhaps Goldberg's exclusive deal is about that and not TNA.

You'd rather kill the company with stupidity than make it money because the killing would be more perversely interesting. Solid.

Enh. Russo's been to TNA a few times now and they're still standing. I prefer the wait-and-see approach to news like this, as none of us really have much insight into what Russo is or isn't responsible for. Things are kinda hit or miss with Russo, where I don't think Goldberg brings anything to the table we haven't seen before. I'd be incredibly bored with Goldberg on my TV in a wrestling ring. He's a one-trick pony and his one trick is old... seven years old.

I'll be watching the PPV on Sunday, not as a result of this announcement hooplah. But I'll be intrigued about it.

Fair enough and I apologize for the use of the word "solid" in the previous post which reads like total asshole when in my head I was speaking in a schlocky sitcom delivery. But if either of the two men in question is conning promoters into using them based on one period of great success 7 years ago and nothing but failure afterwards, it's not Goldberg. Plus I think Goldberg's trick would mean more for Samoa Joe than Russo's will, because at least Goldberg's trick is a good one. But like you said, it's not like this was an either/or decision, so there's not much point in debating it.

*sigh*, I remember the good old days when Tony Schiovane was screaming "this is the greatest event in wrestling history" every week.

I think that really shows how mundane this Dixie character's claim is.

The people that are defending Russo going to TNA, well they say, "a filtered Vince Russo is good." Well who the hell is going to be his bad idea filter now? Dixie Carter? Jeff Jarrett? I don't exactly trust them to be good filters.

Truer words were never spoken. I don't even understand how Russo keeps getting work, but you gotta give the man props for somehow continually getting work without many results. I loathe the Vince Russo era main events. But on the flip side, the undercard really thrives during times when Russo books. So that's why I'm open to him booking in a limited use.

Just please don't bring back D'Lo Brown or any sports entertainment angles. Wishful thinking, I know.

My sources tell me that at the start of the show Vince McMahon is going to do a simulcast promo bragging about how he bought TNA. He will go on about how he crushed the competition, etc etc. At the very end of the show Shane McMahon will show up and say he bought the company. Vince will be pissed. They will hype the return of TNA for months on end, till completely botching the angle and dropping the name till the end of time.

Jim Cornette on announcement

In what could be the biggest news of the day, TNA Management Director Jim Cornette revealed in the morning production meeting “the major announcement will be delivered by a wrestler not scheduled to be on the broadcast tonight”. Obviously, this has led to huge speculation among TNA staff and stars! Cornette has promised to formally address the “major announcement” tonight during the Pay-Per-View.

Is this why Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell will be there?

Luger and Buff are, as far as we know, booked for the tapings tomorrow night, and not scheduled to be there tonight. Obviously, though, they could be there.

It's funny that they say "not scheduled to be on the broadcast tonight" rather than "not currently on the TNA roster" or something. So it could be Sting, Nash, Steiner, or whoever. Of course, if that person is merely making an announcement (about a new timeslot or the like) rather than BEING the announcement, that would make sense.
