Just got my new Observer and Meltzer says that JBL is gone as of 10/6. Apperantly he prefers staying in NYC at his Wallstreet job over traveling all over with Smackdown. So maybe they will go the nostalgia route again and sign either Todd Petingill or Tony Schiavone. Would post a link to the story but I guess Meltz wanted this one exclusive to the subscribers.

edit: well I guess everyone got their observer today

If Bradshaw is gone after October 6th I might have to reconsider my decision to no longer watch SD that I made when Bradshaw beat Eddie for the belt in June of '04 beginning on October 13th. If he is gone on 9/29, that decision might be reconsidered on 10/6.

No big loss. Bradshaw was a decent mid level heel but I hate him as an announcer. Good ridance says I!

Ummm... I was seriously considering writing him an email praising his announcing. I think he's amazing. He actually tries to gets guys like Matt Hardy and Gregory Helms over! He' a good heel announcer. He's also funny sometimes and he and Booker together is GOLD!

I was hoping JBL would end The Miz's winning steak. I almost suspect that it'll be the Miz vs JBL for announce position on SD! I'm laughing and crying at the same time thinking about it.

I also wanted to say.... "WHY HAVE THE WRESTLING GODS FORSAKEN ME!"

Big loss for SD. JBL was a great heel commentator and there ain't that many people that can do that. Anyone that watched Velocity or Heat know that the E don't have many people in the bullpen.

I wonder how they're gonna write him out.

JBL is gonna go down as one of those wrestling success stories we don't see too often. Ended up with a successful career, rich, hot wife, reasonably healthy, leaving on good terms with the comapny. Hell, he'll prolly be a Hall of Famer one day. Good for that guy.

I didn't love his announcing or his wrestling, but I'll be damned if he wasn't just about the best promo man in the company. I had desperately hoped that he would eventually get into a Million Dollar Man-esque managerial role for some of the talent that desperately needs to leech off the heat he could generate, but that's how it goes.

Way to scare me with a thread title that might have been interpreted as JBL having died. Jerk.

He was going to say "JBL is hitting the showers," but that would have been grossly misunderstood.

I'm not a SD viewer. I forget it's on during those Friday nights I'm at home. But what I did see of his past year was a strong gimmick played well. He's done a lot in the company as Justin Hawk and a member of the Midnight Express and APA. I'm glad to see someone able to walk away -- physically and financially -- and I hope he gets a decent send-off on TV.

Well, Meltzer's saying he might stick around now, that the WWE is working something out with him. Considering that he's one of my favorite guys in the industry (hey, he's a "Republican redneck" and his best friend is Ron Simmons), I hope he stays but I always like when a guy goes out in good health and can walk away from the industry, so I hope either way, he's happy.

Kevin Kelly: "Mr. Austin, would you like to comment on Wade Keller's Take that endorsing the XFL hurts your anti-authority character?"

Steve Austin: "Oh shit, he actually said that? I thought the boys in the back were ribbing me!"

Kelly: "No, he really said that. Did they tell you the part about you sitting in the stands, looking all skeptical?"

Austin: "AHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah... oh man that was too much."

Perhaps not.

--In Monday's Observer there is a note (and it's made its way around the web) regarding JBL leaving WWE. He had given notice and the 10/8 PPV show from Raleigh was to be his final show. However, we've heard today that WWE is attempting to keep him and something may have been worked out.

I hope so. I assume this means they're throwing more money at him. Really, traveling issues aside, being a commentator is a sweet gig and it's a pretty secure position if you're decent. It also gets you more over as a charachter and can lead to money comebacks down the line.

For years and years I really hated JBL and wanted him to leave, now that I kind of like him he decides to leave. It's be nice if he could put someone over on his way out, but I'm not sure who and even if it would be that big of a deal.

It was Sparky Plugg himself Bob Holly and Bart Gunn that were the bastardized version of the Midnight Express. If ever there is a Midnight Express DVD, this idea better not be mentioned.

I like JBL's commentary. He's not as good as Tazz, but he has a decent chemistry with Michael Cole. I like his stuff.

I guess I kinda like having a heel commentator alongside a face play by play guy.

Good news everyone from Da Meltz!

Glad to see that JBL is sticking around. Couldn't stand him as WWE Champion except the last couple months of his reign, and then he was a decent-enough main-event heel, but I like his announcing quite a bit.

Hooray! Although I was about to accept the position as his replacement based on a self-esteem boost from FleaRZ.

He did put over Rey twice and Lashley at what ended up being the end of his active in ring career.

That had to have been a bummer, too, since before he realized it was over, he was booked to win the belt from Rey. But we the fans got a double victory: no second JBL world title reign *and* JBL's commentary.
