Cornette mentioned it when he brought out Joe Thursday night. It's technically not true, he's lost three-way and four-way matches in TNA. But he hasn't been pinned.

Dixie Carter only does this type of hyperbole once a year, give it to to her, she needs the press. We all know it won't be as earth shattering as they make it out to be, but it does give the fans something to talk about when there isn't really anything to talk about.
Goldberg, Angle, Spike giving them a second hour... none of that is 'industry changing' and neither was bringing in Sting. There isn't a name I can thing of that they could sign up that could 're-write the history of the industry'
That said... I'm guessing they'll name Bret Hart as Bobby Roode's new manager or Shane'o Mac comes out at the end of the show claiming he bought the company... 'WottaTwist!'
The big surprise that will supposedly change the entire history and face of the industry that TNA is promoting for Sunday's PPV is the return of Vince Russo.
In a panic move driven by the decline in ratings (which has been across the board for every pro wrestling and MMA TV show and not specific to TNA), the company has hired Russo to join the booking committee. Russo will work with Dutch Mantel and Jeff Jarrett. Mike Tenay and Scott D'Amore have been taken off the committee. It's unclear where Jeremy Borash stands.
The company has given Russo guidelines that there can be no sleaze on its wrestling shows, whatever that is supposed to mean. The announcement will be made to the wrestlers over the weekend.
At this point it is unclear what this will mean as far as personnel, but there will likely be a shake-up there as well. At this point we have no indication that any major players will be quitting immediately over this, although some will likely not renew their deals. The announcement does kill dead the Bill Goldberg negotiations.

Will wrestlers actually leave because of Russo?
I would love to complain in advance about what Russo is going to do but I'm waiting to see him actually show up.

Sounds like a good trade. You lose a chance to get Goldberg, alienate some of your big names, and piss off your fans, but on the good side you get the genius who drove WCW into the ground and who sucked the first time through your promotion. As the Guinness guys would say...BRILLIANT~!
Seriously, I want to like TNA. I try to watch the shows. I try to talk good about them. But if the constant Jarrett push wasn't enough, now its this? The hell with them. ROH is there for the need to see good wrestling, and they don't have Vince Russo :)
I think it should be pointed out that since the last time Russo was writing for TNA, he become a born-again Christian. His Director of Authority role was after that, but that was only an on-air business. Frankly, I don't know what to expect from this.
I like to think I am not a elitist wrestling bigot, but the minute Russo's face shows up on tv, I will end all tna support, I won't buy ppv's, watch or tivo impact, or buy dvd's. If I want to help the indy guys that they use, I will go to whatever local they are booked at and see them there. ......................unless he brings back Nash just to let him bury the X division, then I will do two things.
1. Be outraged over the misuse of these super talented but noncharismatic workers.
2. And laugh my but off, cuz while Nash takes the "professional" out of professional wrestler, the man is funny.
Hmmm. Russo has always been a huge fan of pushing the X-Division, and under his booking power, the X-Division really grew. Of course, he also overbooked himself into angles, which was annoying. If Russo is on a leash, as it sounds he is, then that could provide decent results - time will tell how this goes.
That said, Bill Goldberg has lost a lot of weight lately and is training for an MMA career as we speak. So I doubt he has any interest wrestling anywhere, let alone in TNA - with or without Russo booking TNA.
Fans who already hate Jeff Jarrett will only hate him more once Russo shows up.
On the plus side: -Ron Killings will be pushed again -AJ Styles & Christopher Daniels will benefit -So will LAX, James Gang, Christian, and Scott Steiner - all guys Russo has continually shown an interest in.
I'm actually okay with Russo's return - until he overbooks himself into angles, which didn't really happen last time he was around.

I seem to recall hearing that Cornette left (or was asked to leave) WWF after butting heads with Russo too often. Interviews with Cornette where Russo came up have never painted a picture that sounds like he would love to work with him again.
If this story is true, I anticipate bloodshed IF Cornette sticks around at all.
I keep hoping that this story is just side news & not the big surprise.
But if it is, how's TNA going to pull this off? If you don't put Russo back on TV in some capacity & only announce that's he's returned in a creative capacity, that's like saying "yeah here's your surprise, wrestling's fake" ... my opinion, anyway.
I really hope that this isnt the surprise. I mean something, anything has to be better than this, and I'm a Russo fan! TNA is concerned about the declined ratings, has anyone noticed the ratings were going up until they put the belt back on Jarrett? The week after he got the belt back ratings went to a .9. I'm a Jarrett fan, and an indy wrestle who wants to go to tna one day, but he's not a draw. Something has to happen to help tna, but Russo coming back aint it.

Yeah, mine too. I don't really care if he's on the booking committee (not because I'm a Russo fan, but because the current team is pissing everything away, so why not change it up), but if it was just that, they wouldn't make a huge deal over it. I mean -- the announcement can't simply be "Vince Russo is now on our writing staff!" -- they've got to be giving him an on air role, a prospect which makes me pretty ill.
WAIT -- unless part of the INDUSTRY CHANGING EVENT is that they're stripping off the last remnants of kayfabe -- they're going to say, on air, every show, that everything is scipted!
West: "You've got to be kidding me! I bet Monty Brown is upset that Russo booked him to lose this match!"
Tenay: "Well, the writing staff has certainly cut his push! They're upset that Brown wanted to quit, so this is his on-air punishment!"
Russo: "AND THAT'S A SHOOT!"
Brown: "Russo, you had better give me a run with the title, or you will FEEL...THE...uh, say, could you hold the cue cards up a little higher? Thanks. ...pounce."
I am only half kidding.

FWIW, Wade Keller, in the Torch message board, says he was told Russo was NOT the big surprise and that, in fact, the surprise WILL be quite big.
The return of El Gigante? If TNA decided to go back to a regulation ring rather than a 6 sided ring, then I might be interested even with Russo involved and the commencement of Year 8 of Jeff Jarrett as a main eventer who can't draw in multiple organizations. I've tried to watch a few times, but I just can't deal with the ring.
aw crap, something besides Russo? Just when I thought Angle was in the clear... it might still be him, which is pretty upsetting to me.
The first thing I thought when everyone believed the surprise was Russo went along the lines of;
the article says they hired him as a "panic move"? as in "desperation move"?...a desperation move is risky but with benefits, whats the benefit of hiring Russo?

I have a feeling, if Sting is actually going to appear (which he probably will be because no way he's *not* going into the HOF next year), last night would have been the worst possible way to do it given the commercial.
