Did he ever get pinned or lose a match on TV? Strange. Great push and he did well with the character but age and injuries get the best of 'em (and he was far from the best.)

So his last match turns out to be against Jacob Duncan in OVW a month ago? It actually wasn't that bad, although he was really too short to pick up Duncan and slam him through the table (Duncan pretty noticably helped to get the move across).

Shame, but he did seem pretty injury-prone.

Hmmm ... interesting. Didn't Smackdown air a vignette a few weeks ago hyping his return?

Hard to believe he practically squashed the now-World Heavyweight champion only a few months ago at the biggest PPV of the year.

For fucks sake, are they just not wanting me to ever watch Smackdown again? Other then the awesomeness that is King Booker and his royal court (...counting the little bastard), Smackdown has nothing for me to get excited about anymore.

Now, whatever will I do with my free Friday Nights?

If we've learned anything from Doink, it's that they can stick ANY idiot in a mask and call him the Boogeyman. I think just because Wright's been released doesn't mean that someone else can't take up the Boogeyman moniker.

TEN YEARS AGO IN WRESTLING HISTORY: SEPTEMBER 1996
WWF: Shawn Michaels d. Mankind at Mind Games, one of the 90's best matches. Also, some guy named Steve Austin made it his personal mission to bring Bret Hart back to the ring.

WCW: The nWo prevailed in War Games with the help of a Fake Sting. The real Sting walked out on WCW, kicking off one of the biggest angles in the company's history.

It's bad enough they've lost most of my real favorites in the last two years or so, now they've got to start getting rid of the people I enjoy ironically too? Like a worm does!

He got more mileage out of that gimmick than a lot of people expected, and didn't stick around too long for it to be over-exposed (inside or outside the ring).

I guess that's one way of looking at it.

It's going to take a special sort of idiot willing to eat the worms though.

I don't think I'm going to miss a man who's only contribution to the product was dropping worms on people. That shit is sick, and it's one of the only things that actively made me change the channel while watching. I hope Marty Wright does okay for himself, but I couldn't be happier that the Boogyman is off my tv for good.

That sentence sums up my feelings in a nutshell, too. I've got nothing against Marty Wright the person at all. Well, he's not a very good wrestler, but it's not as if they were paying him for his technical expertise. Heck, I wouldn't mind too much if he eventually returned to WWE with a different gimmick. A guy that big, you'd think a gimmick as "I'm really big and I can kick people's asses" would at least fill a certain need. But I'm glad we're rid of The Boogeyman character.

The thing I think I enjoyed the most about The Boogeyman was the fact that there's a locker room full of tough guys banging on all day long about how tough they are, but as soon as they set eyes on a guy with Darth Maul facepaint and no teeth who eats worms and smashes an alarm clock over his head, they're instantly in fear for their lives.

Thanks for reopening the thread.

Guys, the mourning can stop. Boogeyman has been re-signed. This has to be fastest release to re-sign in WWE history.

Um.. yeah. I was getting my dates confused. They had their IYH match to determine the #1 contender at WM in Feb 1996. Thanks for the clarification.
