http://www.411mania.com/wrestling/news/45438/TNA-President-Dixie-Carter-Promises-Huge-Announcement-at-Sunday//s-PPV.htm

TNA President Dixie Carter released the following statement via TNAWrestling.com. "In the course of history, there are defining moments that change the fabric of a company forever. These are moments that are spoken about for years, not days, and serve as benchmarks in the annals of a company's growth. And on occasion, those moments transcend the individual company and re-write the history of an industry. This Sunday at the NO SURRENDER PPV, an announcement will be made that will do just that. You will not want to miss the NO SURRENDER PPV."

Well, I assume it's not Goldberg turning heel.

I know that Zed hates speculation threads so I'll simply say historically when companies promise earth shattering announcements they very rarely live up to the hype (especially when TNA does 'em.)

Not to sound rude, but since that seems to always be the case why bother even mentioning Dixie's statement?

Oh, not rude, fair question. It's 1) news and 2) a discussion can be drawn on how wise it is for a company to tease things like this. There's also rarely any discussion on TNA news around here, so I figured I'd post. Hell, I'm at work, bored silly. You know how it is.

If the announcement is Kurt Angle, fuck them.

It's pretty astonishing that, six years after the fact, no-one has taken onboard the lesson that Bischoff and Russo taught the wrestling world. Making announcements like this is a sure way to piss people off when the end result doesn't match their expectations. Then again, this PPV is dying a death in the face of Bound For Glory, so they've gotta do SOMETHING to sell it.

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

Not to try and further any idle speculation, but I do recall on Goldberg's website an announcement that he had signed a deal that gave Spike a window of opportunity to try and create a deal with him. While we may not think much of his skills, that would be a major announcement and their biggest acquisition ever (since Hogan never really joined them).

True, but I get the impression from Dixie's choice of words that she expects whatever is supposed to happen on Sunday to be bigger than another big name joining TNA. I'm not saying that whatever it is wont be a huge disappointment, it just doesnt sound like another signing to me.

And on a side note, I cant think of one thing that has "changed the world/a company/an industry" forever that was announced beforehand. Most earth-shattering events I can think of came as some sort of suprise, at least to those not involved in the planning of said event.

They're doing a co-promotion alongside the new Jackass movie...so I seriously hope that they're not signing Johnny Knoxville or Steve-O to contracts.

If they push iMPACT back a couple of hours and give it one more...then I'll be pleased.

Isn't this the same press release they put out right before they announced signing Christian?

Honestly, I might go back to watching if Kurt Angle joined them. So would a lot of people, just out of curiosity. Even a lot of the crowd who would be against such a move.

Announcements like this always seem so desperate to me. It's a ploy which rarely lives up to its intended hype, but in their shoes, I'd probably do the same or something similar.

Could it possibly be Angle? I assume he's still in his no-compete clause seeing how he was fired and his contract didn't expire like Christian's?

You can sign a contract... you just can't appear on TV before the 90 days are up. I worked with a company who did this with some ex-WWE guys before and had to delay their PPV to air after the 90 days were up.

Ladies and gentlemen, the following public service message is brought to you by your friends from D-Generation X, who would like to remind each and every one of you that if you're not down with that, we've got two words for you...

It's got to be one of two things:

1) Spike is giving them a second hour and moving them into direct competition with either RAW or Smackdown (more likely RAW), thus giving TNA IMMEDIATE visibility to the casual wrestling viewer and giving Vince some competition.

2) Ted Turner is coming on board, whether it's as a part owner or a vice president or whatever, thus leading to TNA leaving Spike for TBS, and with it, INCREASED visibility to the casual wrestling viewer and giving Vince some competition.

Nothing else would really fit the hyperbole here, not even Angle or Goldberg coming in.

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

I believe the newsletters say Angle's still contracted to the WWE as long as next Feburary so this unlikely to be him.

This announcement is surely positioned to take advantage of Angle speculation. It will also surely be a let down.

Y'know, if Derek Jeter moved down to Triple A, it wouldn't be earth-shattering, it'd just be depressing. So even if it is Angle...

So...in your analogy, Balls Mahony, Big Show, and Test are Major Leaguers while Samoa Joe, Christian Cage, and Senshi are also rans? I might agree if Angle had been on Raw or even Smackdown, but in my mind TNA is a big step up from the joke that is ECW.

I love the wrestling in TNA, but for the most part hate their storylines, so my guess is that the big announcement is something dumb, like the new manager for Roode. This is a company that had a "major announcement" pay off with boots, a jacket, and a baseball bat.

Q. Who has recently been blackballed from Japan, is a former WWE Champion, and recently broke down conversations to rejoin WWE?

A: Probably the newest member of TNA.
