For the past few months I've been having a problem with Mozilla Firefox. Anywhere from one to six times a day, it will say that the program needs to be shut down and asks me to send an error report. I've downloaded and run Spy-Bot, but that doesn't seem to be doing anything to curb the issue. What can I do that doesn't involve downloading another new browser?
Have you got it set to automatically check for updates? Tools-options-advanced-Software updates If it's a Firefox bug, updates should fix it. If not, try looking for common themes when it does crash - is it whenever you search? whenever you visit that warez site? Maybe even run stinger or housecall if you're suspicious it could be malware.
I would check your add-ons if you have any. Firefox seems to be fairly stable for me, but some of the add-ons have not been so friendly. You didn't mention any, but I bet you've got Adblock like everyone else seems to.
I've got Adblock, ForecastFox, Colored Tabs and the Abe Vigoda Watch, all of which I've had since before the problem started. I've got the automatic updates set, so that's not the problem either. I just downloaded and ran Ad-Aware in addition to SpyBoy, so maybe that'll fix whatever it was.
Well, it could be that one of those extensions is incompatable with an update that you received for Firefox. I'd try removing them to see if your problem is resolved, and then add them back one by one until you have an issue again.
You might also want to check for new/updated versions.
I've actually been having the same problem, and I'm not running any of the same extensions as Gugs. I've got Fasterfox, IE tab, disable targets for DL and searchpluginhacks on there.
They want to deliver vast amounts of information over the internet. And again, the internet is not something you just dump something on. It's not a truck.
I'd recommend the same thing for you; disable everything for a day and see if there is still a problem. If you don't have the issue, add them back one at a time until you do have the problem.
Again, this could have been something that was changed in a recent firefox update which causes incompatability with an older extension. Please check your extensions for updates / new versions.
Are these sites that are dropping off Google's radar message boards for the most part? I only ask because I've found in my personal experience that search results leading to message boards tend to have the highest amount of "404" errors.
