Jeez, this show pissed me off. Other than Edge/Jeff (for the simple novelty factor of Jeff being back), there was no match tonight that will leave an impression on me when I look back at it next week.

I get excited that maybe they're bringing back the old WWE Title belt, only to discover that Edge is just getting his own spinner title, instead.

We get to look forward to yet another John Cena/Edge match at the next PPV, in which no doubt Cena will finally regain the WWE Championship. Yaay. Will some other babyface please step up? Cena's becoming the 2006 version of (circa 2003) Triple H.

Speaking of Triple H. Waaaaay too much DX on this program. Hey, idiots-- the spraypainting of the building would have had more dramatic impact if (A) it wasn't obviously a decal of some sort, and (B) YOU HADN'T ALREADY SHOWN THIS TO US ON WWE.COM TWO MONTHS AGO!

And after the startling Kiss My Ass Club segment in which Melina turned on Foley, the last 10 minutes or so of the program were tacked on, anticlimactic and completely unnecessary. It was a cool visual, but dammit, end on a high note, WWE. This was just like last week's stuttering anticlimax with Hogan and Orton.

Even though it wasn't literally the case, this show felt like it was 75-80% DX and The McMahons. Which I was sick of three weeks ago. This show certainly didn't help that.

Yeah, telegraphing isn't always bad, but the whole Foley thing was telegraphed from the get-go...and it involved yet another brilliant installment of the "Kiss My Ass Club." Predictability is part of what's hurting the current product, so even if the situation calls for a turn, it'd be nice if we didn't see it coming from a mile away. That, and I'm sorry, but wrestling fans are put in enough awkward situations trying to defend why they watch it without having to explain why Vince pulled his pants down and had a dude kiss his butt.

That being said, Edge provided some very watchable segments on this show, and Jeff Hardy actually looked healthy and competent! So it wasn't ALL bad. I guess most of my frustration just comes from not understanding why so many people find DX even remotely amusing, especially with the McMahons involved.

Mick Foley: I once read Mick Foley still regrets that he never wrestled Vince Mc Mahon, when he had that choice (around WM X7 I´d think)! So.. maybe this will "finally" lead us to that HUUUUUGE dream match?

Jeff Hardy: When I first heard the rumors about the Unforgiven main event stipulation I instantly thought: They need to add some guys here! Cena can´t do this without some help!
Now why not add Jeff Hardy? And even better: Add Hardy AND Flair! And even better: Give the title to Flair and have Edge win it back in Toronto in a 4 way!

Sidenote: ECW IS SAVED!! Hardcore Holly is now part of the roster! :/ Seriously! He already worked a house show according to the Observer HP!

Looks like Mick forgot to let Shane show off the ChapStik before he did the deed. We're left wondering whether that was just another slipped-my-mind thing, or a deliberate your-humour-sucks-so-I-will-sabotage-it thing on the part of Foley.

(I reckon I'll recap ECW again, but it won't be ready in time to meet your instant gratification needs. ;-) )

-So what is uglier than Cena's Spinner title?? Edge's new spinner title.

-I liked how they used Hardy, getting him out there right away during the first segment, and then later on in a match. He finally put the finger paints away, and looked pretty good. The Swanton doesn't look as good as I remember, but to be fair, he looks to be carrying around a few pounds since the end of his first WWE run.

-The DX bits were there, and it just felt like ways to subliminally promote the McMahon DVD tonight. Coach on the Bowflex, and McMahon doing the Kiss My Ass Club bit. Shane could be a good son though, and get his dad some Ex-Lax, I hear it's good for constipation.

-Carlito and Orton could be interesting, and I liked the elbow drop as Orton layed in wait for Flair to hit him with a second RKO.

-Does anyone know if the Godmother thing is real? If so, yikes. I know Melina is a swell gal and all, but to name her the godmother of your children after only meeting/talking with her 3 times, kinda weird. The Melina turn was good, since her and Foley just, look very out of place.

-4 matches tonight, and I can honestly say I only bothered watch Edge/Hardy. I didnt figure there would be much to Orton/Flair, but caught the end with the Carito run-in.

All in all, better than last week, but that's not sayin a whole lot neither.

A thought just hit me. On November 19, 2001, Vince McMahon began the Kiss My Ass club.

Fast forward to August 22, 2006, nearly FIVE YEARS LATER, and Vince McMahon is STILL pulling down his pants on national television and having his own employees kiss his ass.

What's worse? The fact that this is still happening or the fact that we just won't turn away?

When Edge said to Jeff Hardy "Didn't you die 3 years ago?", that was hands down, unequivocably, LINE OF THE YEAR. Edge has been bringing the awesome ever since the Matt Hardy controversy. Bring back Christian and Gangrel and let Edge shit on the people from his past some more, because that's truly when he's at his most entertaining.

I'll be happy when Vince is finally willing to get off camera again, because then guys like Shelton, Carlito, and others can actually have screen time again... The DX vs. McMahons feud has really made me sick of HBK, and I've always been one of his biggest fans... He's been feuding with Vince since the Royal Rumble, and I hope he can break free of it soon.

Smartest thing of the night ... not letting Jeff Hardy talk. Second smartest thing making him dress old school and not in neon paint.

I imagine he will be lost in the Raw shuffle in a month or so though. Smackdown or ECW would have been a better home.

So, the top two feuds going into Summerslam have been Cena/Edge and DX/McMahons, and coming out of Summerslam we have...Cena/Edge and DX/McMahons! It's excitement through repetition!

I was really surprised at Jeff Hardy. He looked like he had "the fire" again (and about 15 more lbs.). Who would ahve thought that he would have been the highlight of the show.

Looks like we'll be getting Kane vs. Umaga & Carlito vs. Orton at Unforgiven.

Speaking of the Hardcore Holly/ECW thing, PWInsider.com reported that Matt Striker worked the show & along with Holly, will be a mid-card heel.

Three things about last night:

1. I don't think they could have Jeff Hardy any better last night. It was a perfect way to reintroduce him - for those that remember him from before, Edge is a natrual rival, and for those that don't, he suddenly seems like a much bigger deal than if they had just had him come back and jump off a ladder. Hardy also, it would seem, will have a ton of momentum off this night, if they want to keep it up.

2. Edge is awesome. One year ago, I would have said otherwise. But in the time since, I dont know if my standards have changed or if Edge has gotten dramaticly more entertaining. I think it's major improvements on Edge's part. Cena also played his part well last night.

2b. Man - Lita is just ... wierd looking, now. Scary looking might be better. Whatever it is, it's definitely not ... "sexy."

3. Hopefully they realized having Umaga be Vince's pet dog wasn't the right route - watching him destroy Kane was cool, and I actually look forward to that match.

That and they did a nice little job planting the seeds for an Orton-Carlito program after Carlito's been treading water for the last few months looking for something substantial to do. It's too bad the WWE already used their Attack The Face's Dad card for 2006, because having Carlos Sr. out as another legend for Randall to punk out would have put a cherry on this matchup.

Jeff Hardy fights Edge, a title belt is chucked in the water, DX unleashes the main-event moons, Kane's throat is damaged, Vince toys with Mick, Flair jobs clean to a guy who just lost to Hogan, and a car is vandalized in the parking lot. I hereby insert a pithy line inquiring as to the correct decade.

Nice little match between Victoria and Trish. Yes, we've also seen that before, but given that Trish is apparently out the door, it's a nice reminder of how reliable these gals were for a good five-minute bout. Thanks, ladies. Victoria, (makes thumb-pinky telephone-to-ear gesture).

If I wasn't booing Cena before, I am now. Move Cena on, bookers. Let someone else work that title chase for a while. Edge is gonna get stale repeating the same insults.

Kathy and Travis liked the springboard suplex finisher from the Highlanders.

I'm curious as to why most people on here place the blame for the annoyance of the McMahon/DX angle on Vince wanting to "suck up airtime" or not step out of the way so other can have their time. Why is it none (or very little) of the blame is placed on HHH AND HBK >gasp!< Not HBK!

While one could argue that HHH is just doing what everyone has complained about him doing for the last 5 or so years, what excuse is everyone giving HBK for allowing the DX angle to dominate RAW and overshadow the WWE Title scene? It's not like he doesn't have say or could voice his opinion that others should be the focus instead of him. He seems to rather want to complain about his comfort-level doing the DX rather than complaining that his stuff is dominating programming.

And the few glimmers that are an Edge main event match (like SummerSlam) or what-have-you don't count when the focus shifts back to the DX all over again.

I don't think "Well, he's entertaining..." or something similar will cut it as an answer because this DX stuff has been subpar at best and Michaels has been really forcing a lot of the act.

Hogan beats up current talent once a year, everyone complains at the top of their lungs. HBK goes along with shifting focus away from where it should be (Edge) and onto himself -- while he and HHH shame half the roster -- and people are relatively cool with it.

Who has HBK helped make lately? Umaga? Well HHH put an end to that somewhat. Shelton? Heat. Edge? Circumstances allowed him to do it on his own. Benoit? Already credible before Michaels. The Spirit Squad is practically a joke now...so what has HBK done for anyone else?

HBK is the same selfish guy he always was; Born-Again or not.

Not to disagree about your general points regarding HBK's disposition, but the reason people are putting the blame on McMahon and not him is because Vince sets the booking order for the show, and not HBK. dX/McMahon is at the top of the card because Vince wants it there. Whatever input HBK has in this angle (and who knows what he's saying about it) Vince makes the final call.
Personally, I thought this was the best episode of RAW in months. I liked just about everything except the last 10 minutes or so, although I knew people around here were going to be pissed about the new spinner belt. What can you do, people love those spinning title belts.

DX would be fine and dandy if the heels they were showing so much ass for weren't two very annoying and egotistical non-wrestlers. Put 'em against, say, Edge and Johnny Nitro and they'd be fine. But then I doubt they'd be so forthcoming with the heat-sharing if that were the case.

And I don't get the complaints about Umaga. Does anyone seriously think that he now comes off worse than he did before beating Cena/HBK/HHH? His involvement in that feud has only helped him move up the card.

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

I wanted to see Edge's opening promo, and when they threw the spinner belt into the harbor, I marked out. That joy lasted for about 90 seconds as Edge unveiled the exact same "new" belt with a Rated-R sticker on it. Terrible.
And I turned it off once I heard Vince say, "This thing with DX is not over". I would rather watch the pre-season Cowboys game, and the Reds rally to beat Houston. And apparently Cena/Edge is not over either. If it's the 2nd biggest show of the year, shouldn't at least one of the top story lines be blown off??? I mean, what else can be done with DX and the McMahon's?

Because other than being the owner of the company, you can be sure any segment involving Vince himself has been through his hands from beginning to end, and no matter what input anyone else has had nothing would make TV if he didn't think it was up to his standards. Therefore the awful McMahon/DX segments we've been seeing for the last two months were certainly green-lighted (and perhaps even written) by Vince.

As for the anti-HBK propaganda, he's been one of the top three performers on the entire roster for the past four years and has helped countless guys by simply being involved in competitive matches with them. A lot of people seem to think a pinfall means everything and that Michaels pinning Edge, Masters or whoever was "burying" them, when in fact just being treated as an equal was elevating them far more than a win or loss ever would. That's why people have a problem with Hogan - nobody is ever presented as anywhere near his level so when he inevitably wins it makes his opponent look like shit.
