Caught the movie tonight at a surprise special showing at 10:00p at one of my local theaters. Let me just say, this movie did not disappoint. I don't know how much re-working they did after its popularity started to rise, but this movie had my friends and me ROLLING. Highly recommended, as if you actually needed to hear that from someone before going to see it.

I had the same situation going as Sting Army. My friends and I camped out the night before to get tickets as soon as they went on sail. It was rather unneccessary but it was so much fun.

Anyway, the movie. The movie met and even exceeded my expectations in just sheer entertainment. it doesn't make it a "good" movie per se, but it's a thrill ride I haven't experienced all summer. I dare say, this was much more fun than Pirates, possibly.

It was the dumbest thing I've seen in ages... Separated from acres and acres of hype, it was exactly what I thought it was going to be: An enjoyably awful, awful movie.

It was ridiculous, illogical, and absolutely perfect. When Samuel L. Jackson utters his famous line, everyone in the theatre cheered. I haven't been this entertained by a dumb movie since I saw the old Arnie action flicks. Highly recommended.

Saw it last night. With the exception of the guy directly behind me who kept saying "Snakes on __________" everything he saw in the movie (literally, everything... "Snakes on a Beverage Cart," etc.).

I hated that guy.

Beyond that, the movie was hysterical. Not as bloody and gory as I guess I expected, but so directly awful it was great.

This was quite possibly the greatest movie I've ever seen in my life. No joke.

For the first time in my life, I was actually shushed in a theatre. During SNAKES ON A PLANE. What, did they not want to miss a second of the intense dialogue? Even better, it was a 10-year-old girl and her mom who did the shushing. I got my revenge later in the film during the surprisingly graphic sex scene in the plane lavatory; let's just say the parents and 10-year-old were shifting uncomfortably in their seats.

Anyway, the movie was ridiculous. And great.

Scene: Mark DeRosa's brain. The year is 2005.
Part of Mark DeRosa's brain: Come on, another position change? One day it's second base, the next day right field, now it's third? Why, I oughta go into Buck's office and throw his talking fish on the floor!
Other part of Mark DeRosa's brain: Hold on, other part of the brain. We're making $500,000 this year. Last year we made $725,000. All for playing a damn kids' game. This is, as they say in Brainland, a no-"us"-er. We're not going to complain.
Part of Mark DeRosa's brain: You're right, dude. Let's go back to looking at this crazy porn Teixeira gave us!

It had everything I thought it would have. Terrible dialogue, cheesy special effects (a boa swallows a human being?!), and a plot so far out there that no one in their right mind would take it seriously.

Normally (and I stress NORMALLY) this would be a very forgettable movie with a slight chance of it becoming a cult hit. It'd be right up there with Deep Blue Sea. But the marketing job and the hype machine was just so amazingly awesome that this is a movie that I'll remember for a long time to come. Whoever came up with the marketing campaign for this film needs to go into politics immediately! If they can convince an entire nation to see something so seemingly silly like Snakes on a Plane, they just might be the answer to Democrats' prayers.

And one more thing. I know that Samuel L. Jackson already has his spot on reserve, but this movie should definitely put him into the pantheon of all-time great actors. He single-handedly made this movie worth seeing.

If they were counting the 1.4 million from the Thursday showings, they'd be right up there with Ricky Bobby. (I have no idea if that is SOP or not.)_

Well, there were about 7 other people in the theater with me when I saw it. I actually wouldn't be shocked if the box office sank like a stone next week, because everyone who hyped for it saw it this weekend, and hype aside, it is a bad, cheesy horror flick.

Now, all 8 of us in the theater *did* laugh out loud during various parts of the film, and I was truly hoping that the guy who walked out 7 SECONDS INTO THE MOVIE actually did walk out in disgust, but, alas, he just needed more popcorn.

Much like Big Bad's case, there was a mother and child at our showing as well, in this case a mother and a probably 10 or 11 year old boy. Unfortunately, I couldn't tell if there was embarassment over either bathroom scene.

Didn't think I'd say this, but I was kinda disappointed by The Line. It really seemed like they just threw it in there because they had to, instead of putting it somewhere that would make sense.

That said, it was everything it should be, although I really want to know who let a baby into the theater.

I read somewhere that after all of the viral marketing started to kick into gear someone online had suggested that line; as a result they actually went back and reshot a couple extra scenes, "the line" included. That could be why it doesn't quite fit.

Funny, but even thought I knew that line was coming, I was still pretty happy to hear it. As I said to some friends, "I paid $6* to hear Samuel L. Jackson say..."

The movie was beyond stupid, but the audience was really what made it a fun experience. I think it may end up being a kind of Rocky Horror Picture Show for this generation.

Oh, and there absolutely needs to be a sequel.

The line was fudged. It was inserted during reshoots to bump the movie up a hard R-and, had it stayed at the PG13 rating, it would've been disastrous-and they totally chose the wrong point to have him say it.

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

I don't agree, I thought it made perfect sense to use it at that point. Just when he thought he'd gotten rid of the last of the snakes and everything was going to be okay, he discovers even more snakes. It's obviously quite frustrating, hence The Line.

It probably should work that way (I mean, he wouldn't do what he did about it unless it was a last resort, right?) but the way he built up to it didn't make enough sense.

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
"Okay, power's back on. Let's just check with the pilot."
(opens door, pilot continues to be dead)
"Hey, uh, there's snakes in there. Huh."
"I'VE HAD IT WITH THESE MOTHERFUCKING SNAKES ON THIS MOTHERFUCKING PLANE"

Maybe if he was a little irked beforehand. Regardless, The Line went over really well in our theater, despite being pretty empty.
