I'm still very excited about LAX. After they lost at Hard Justice, SOMEONE (it was Matt Tracker!) suggested that their push had been "hobbled!" Well, someone forgot to inform LAX!

We open with LAX FUCKING UP Daniels and Styles. It's supposed to be a celebration for Jeff Jarret, but sadly(!) that's a no go. Both Daniels and Styles bleed a copious amount. Hernandez press slams Styles, from the crowd, over the guard rail and onto the entrance ramp! Konnan KILLS Styles with a champagne bucket and bottle upside the head! Homicide chokes Daniels with what appears to be a wire coat hanger!

Eventually Rhino runs down to help out -- this brings out Monty Brown -- this brings out Brother Runt, and then Abyss, and then Samoa Joe. Finally JJ comes out to set off his confetti cannons (that's not a euphemism) and drink some champagne. But even THIS is interrupted by Sting, who takes out EVERYONE with his bat and HE challenges Jarret to a rematch at Bound for Glory!

The Paparazzi and Petey Williams vs. Chris Sabin, Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt: X Division action. Fun multi-suicide-dive spot. Gratuitous Earl Hebner spot (man, the Hebner vs. Slick match is gonna be OFF THE CHAIN!). Deliriously ridiculous rowboat spot (I'm not sure I can describe it, even). Sabin pins Devine with a springboard leg drop.

Above-adequate X stuff -- not memorable, you know, or anything. Again, no Senshi. I just don't know -- the whole division feels like it's going around in a big circle, and the Kevin Nash Cancellation did not help one bit. Also: Devine may never win another match ever again.

We get a taped promo from Christian Cage explaining his actions -- he says that is actions were not pre-meditated -- he just realized, while watching Sting fail to get the pin over and over again despite Cage's interference, that Sting was not worth his support. (Hey, BigDaddyLoco, he addressed your concerns!) He says his "brother" Rhino will understand. (I am dubious.)

Another promo -- Daniels and Styles are backstage. They are still covered in blood. AJ is OUT of it -- he looks barely conscious. Daniels says that if LAX wanted a rematch, all they had to do was ask. Konnan, out at the Spanish Announce Table, wants a "Border Brawl" -- no DQ! And that's our Main Event next week -- should be good.

Aaaaaand one more promo package -- this intercuts Bobby Roode and three TNA managers who want to manage him: Shane Douglas, Simon Diamond, and James Mitchell. Roode is unimpressed by all of them. Next week: Jimmy Hart? Bobby Heenan? Mortimer Plumtree?

Frankie Kazarian vs. BG James vs. Chase Stevens vs. Chris Harris: This is a one-guy-from-each-team match to determine the #1 Tag Team contender. Almost-not-there-at-all match ends in about 2 and a half minutes with Chase Stevens KOing Chris Harris with James Storm's handcuffs around his fist. Shane Douglas is happy (!) after the match, but Harris is Pissed -- and now James Storm is pissed, too! It looks like that breakup is unavoidable now.

Samoa Joe vs. Ron "The Truth" Killings: Joe wins, of course, with the Muscle Buster. Good match -- Joe avoided the scissor kick and then kicked out of the front suplex, which is Killings' "sub-finisher." Did it used to be called the Hat Rack Crack? Something like that. Killings could use a finisher that isn't the same as Booker T's. Anyway, Killings looked about as strong as someone can look when Joe beats them clean in ten minutes.

Overall? LAX vs. Styles & Daniels is about all that I can find room in my heart to care about today.

--K

**EDIT!!! I forgot that at the VERY end, JJ accepted Sting's challenge -- as long as it's a title-vs.-CAREER match. Eek!

Jarrett Vs. Sting for Bound For Glory. Good lord.

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

Yea, the LAX beat down on Styles & Daniels was awesome. The schmozz to start off a show, I can't remember the last time I've seen that. Even though everyone including Stevie Wonder saw the Christian turn coming, I thought he did a great job explaining himself, but it would have been better if he would have done it in the ring. Jackal is right, the rowboat sequence in the Paparazzi/Petey v. Lethal/Sabin/Dutt match was just...lame.

I understand what they're trying to do with the Bobby Roode segments, but I dunno, it's coming off really cheesy. Potential manager pitches him what they can do, and he either responds by "that's not good enough", "is that all you got?". Then again, the whole "biggest free agent" schtick is kind of hard to swallow when the only 3 guys you have vying for his services are Simon Diamond, Shane Douglas, and James Mitchell. But, next week, he's gonna go "outside the box." Yeah. Ok.

You know the 'fans' there would have cheered him on.
Or start a duelling chant.

Good show, but I like nit-picking TNA so...

-Opening segment bugged me because it made no sense. It was like one of those nonsensical end of show brawls that the E and WCW used to do. LAX jumping Styles and Daniels I get. That's how TNA needs to open, with violence, with edginess, not with JB telling us that Jeff Jarrett is in the building. They load the show when they have the UF premiere, but every other week we open it up like Amateur Improv Night. Also, everyone else running in just seemed over the top. Then Jarrett comes down (ostensibly telling the mid-card fillers to get out of his ring.) Why would Jarrett stroll down to a ring full of guys who have all fought him at one time or another? What if they all decided to kick his ass? Then Sting comes out, cleans house and cuts the big babyface promo like some hero. The problem with that is that Daniels and Styles are dying feet away from him and Sting never ever bothers to look their way. Some babyface.

The X-Division match was good, but they're wasting Shelley and Lethal. No one cares about Sabin. Dutt too. They bring nothing to the table, they're about as good as a thousand flippy flippy guys in the indies. I'm sick of Sabin being put over everyone.

Borash gets to much TV time. So does Eric Young, who'll be the new Eugene in 3 months.

The 4 way was pretty pointless, but Joe and Killings rocked me.

LAX is the best thing on this show and bless Konnan for bringing the intensity with the promos.

And then we come to the Jarrett v. Sting match at Bound for Glory. Well, I like how they've completely undercut September's PPV, which didn't get mentioned once. So, either Sting wins, which means that Jarrett continues the feud or Jarrett goes over at their biggest show in history. Neither is good. Around the net, it seemed everyone genuinely wanted to believe in TNA. "Of course, Joe will win that #1 contender's match. Oh, okay. Well, he'll def. get the shot at Bound for Glory, don't worry about it." Joe is to TNA as RVD was to ECW. If you're trying to build an audience, put your belt on your most dynamic star. Don't wait till that perfect time, because it'll never happen. That was what happened with RVD. Paul waited so long to have the maximum audience see RVD win that the company went asunder. This would be like if in 1983 McMahon told Hogan, "listen, we're gonna keep the belt on the Sheik UNTIL WrestleMania and then you'll get your big first title win, the people will love it."

I hate traditional wrestling booking.

Hate, hate, hate.

The beat down to start the show was bad ass, I can't believe I am almost a Konnan fan now. That type of bloodbath on national television is the kind that got Dusty fired back in '88. This feud is awesome.
Thank god Christian is a heel now, he seems like himself again. Now he will be such a good heel, they will have to turn him face again, The vicious cycle. So how will he fit in at Bound for Glory? And Joe, for that matter?
My only complaint: these interchangeable X Div. matches each week. Not that they are bad, but I can't remember from one week to another who was in which match. Or who even won.

The opening brawl was one of the best things I personally have seen on a wrestling show in a while ...

Poor Christopher Daniels ... another button-down shirt totally ruined.

The thing is, doing Jarrett Vs. Sting yet again isn't traditional wrestling booking. Traditional booking would be putting Sting in a grudge match against Christian for Bound For Glory, with Joe, as the dominant midcard force looking to make it big, rianing on Jarrett's celebration parade and going for the big belt. This is stretching a midlyl popular feud past breaking point when the fans are begging for something else. Even if they find a way of inserting Joe into the match, it's a piss-poor way of booking his first run at the title.

LAX is one of the best things on the show. The opening was awesome and Christopher Daniels must have like 250 of those shirts. And I am just completely tired of Sting/Jarrett. Just give Joe the belt already.

So Sting retired, then Jeff Jarrett badgered him into unretiring, so that Jarrett could make him retire?

I can admit when I'm wrong, but I ain't. LAX taking the titles outright on the PPV cements them as a heel stable. This booking steers LAX into tweener territory.

Look at the posts just in this thread filled with love for what LAX brings to the show. They lose the PPV match -- one they signed up for on the face's terms -- and then challenge them to their kind of match. This is totally a face move. Heels don't rebound for an eventual win; they cheat initially and dodge the rematch. LAX became more focused after the loss. Again, that's face booking, and their brutality and impressive finishers add to their popularity. They continue a push toward the titles, yes, but not as full-on heels. I worry any tweener stance leads them to fight full-on heels, and in TNA, this might be the Papparazi or Naturals.

Imagine if we had this degree of intensity in the main event.

Are we sure there IS a September PPV? That show certainly gave the impression that there isn't one.

THIS is how they build toward their "Super Bowl, World Series, etc"? With yet another go-round of Sting vs. Jarrett? and LAX vs. The Naturals? (I'm assuming, since the Naturals are the #1 contenders and it sure looks like LAX will have the titles by then.) With the X division champ doing nothing?

I don't see what's so difficult. Booking Joe as a challenger to either Jarrett or Sting for the big event would make a lot of sense. If they did the former, they'd have Christian and Sting ready to go; if they go the other way, they can have Rhino take on Christian and give Jarrett someone interesting--maybe Monty, maybe Styles, whatever. Having Nash actually go for the X Division title (preferably against someone with personality, such as Daniels) would have made perfect sense--I'd really be OK with Senshi being the guy if they, you know, let him do something meaningful on TV once in while. (Can he cut a promo? Because I can't really remember anything he's done with the mic since coming back, but maybe he just hasn't had the chance. I didn't see much of the old weekly PPV days.) I probably would have the Dudleys finally winning the tag titles (likely over AMW) on such a big show, but I'm fine with LAX as champs--but I'm not sure the Naturals are the best opponents for them. Maybe Killings and a partner.

I mean, there are certainly other ways to go. And there are still two months left in which to make this work, so perhaps I'm leaping to confusion, but so far Bound For Glory isn't feeling like TNA's answer to Wrestlemania; it's feeling like a pretty routine PPV, unusual only in that's it's not coming from Orlando.

For those of you curious about the rowboat.

We don't need anymore Sting VS Jarrett. Joe and/or Christian need to be inserted into that match (if not replacing Double J altogether) and pin Sting to end his career.
