So there is what seems to be a pro wrestling event going on in Brooklyn this Friday. The only thing is, they apparently dress up as large monsters and "destroy" fake buildings in the process of their bouts. I'm not asking if I should go, because I won't be in the area this weekend anyway, but has anyone ever heard of this group? KAIJU
I've caught this. Its on G4 in the morning (like 8am), I think airs as part of some cartoon block (which includes classic G.I. Joe episodes!). They have two kids serve as the 'wacky' announcers, and, well, its guys in costumes performing wrestling moves. I didn't watch enough to see if there was any sort of psychology going on.
You believe me, don't you? Please believe what I just said...
I've got their first DVD, and one of the matches on there had a workrate that blew a typical RAW match out of the water with ease. But judging from the rest of the DVD and the weekly shows (which I stopped watching once they went into perma-reruns shilling toys) it's mostly just costumed zany antics and absurdity, so don't go expecting an indy wrestling extravaganza. More a sort of lighthearted performance art with the occasional hurricanrana.
Yeah! I've been to a couple of their events in Brooklyn - Twoflowers assessment is basically correct. They've had a video screen set up for pretaped promos and "commercials", and both times I've gone there has been a DJ and a band that's "hip" but mostly unknown. [I saw Enon and the Trachtenberg Family Slideshow Players]. It's not about workrate, but they adhere to the pro wrestling template pretty closely. Silver Potato is the vanilla babyface with all the flashy moves, Dr. Cube draws incredible heel heat and cuts a great promo for someone whose lips don't move, and Team Space Bug is a pretty decent stable.
It's ridiculous, and a lot of fun if you can get into it. The Mrs. and I took friends who don't have a clue about wrestling, and they enjoyed themselves plenty well.

I wonder, does anyone know who plays these characters? They seem to be pretty competent in the ring and know their way around it, and I doubt it's easy doing moonsaults off of cages while wearing those gigantic costumes.
I finally caught this on G4 this weekend. For those of you with DVRs, the show is called "Action Blast." The main drawback, unfortunately, is that they break up the wrestling with GI Joe and Transformers clips.
A friend of mine recommended a DVD of it just recently...I might have to borrow it from him to give it a fair chance. I find it unwatchable on "Action Blast" because of the commentary. It drives me up a wall.

Sounds more like a reason to watch rather than a drawback to me.

Exactly. And frankly, I think it was a dumb idea to announce this match in the first place. Putting Mercury in a ladder match period now, 2 months after what happened to him, is stupid. 'Cept now No Way Out doesn't look as good to the buyers.
