I am watching CNN International right now and it seems that Scotland Yard has uncovered a plot to blow up UK to USA flights using things in handbags that might be otherwise undetected.

So no hand luggage is being allowed on flights - only wallets, money and stuff like that. No purses, laptops, carry on luggage, ipods, ect.

England has raised their threat level to high.

Yeah, Cable news channels are lit up like Christmas trees. Talk channel flipping at 4am in the morning. Wow breaking news alert really gave me a boost of energy to see what exactly in the world was going on. Looks as if they at least caught them and stopped them.

I get 310 miles, used to only get 260, on 3/4 a tank of gas. Please go ahead and try it. I've seen a major improvement in my mileage

Or there never was any real threat. Who Knows? The beauty of all this if you are a terrorist is the ability to totally disrupt things and cause big problems without actually having to do anything. Of course after a while you do or people will ignore threats. This really sucks for travelers.

That REALLY sucks.

Oh, yeah, I said it.

;-)

As for this sucking for travelers, they were saying on the radio about an hour ago that none of the flights they've heard of have wound up being delayed beacuse of this.

Right after a popular election in CT, this comes out. The timing is very suspicious.

What substance were they gonna use to pull this off?

Oh, come ON!!! The security situation has already grown beyond ridiculous as it is. Why not just ban all carry-on luggage and be done with it? Isn't that the end game in all this?

I could live with that if they weren't such screw ups with the bags I check. When I first started flying back in the early 1980's it was okay, but now it really, really sucks.

Just out of curiousity, how is it that you believe that a Connecticut Democratic Party primary touched off a possible terrorist threat on another continent?

There is no way in a million years I'd trust airlines workers to handle my laptops, cameras, ipod, etc., with without either damging or losing them. But then they could make more money by 1) not raising the weight maximum and charging anyone over it and 2) offering insurance to those who don't want their things actually broken. Neither of these would be acceptable to me, and I'd probably stop flying. Seeing as how oil companies are recording record profits while gas prices skyrocket, the above scenario would probably mean I never leave town again.

I would not be a bit surprised if the individuals on the team from your area were sexually attracted to members of their own gender. That is how ineffective they are on the field of battle.

Since we question everyone else's strategy, is it time to question Al-Qaeda's as well? They are trying to accomplish in the Atlantic what they failed to do in the Pacific 11 years ago, and it doesn't appear like it will work this time either. Also, even if it had worked, while it would have been a tragedy, blowing planes up over the middle of the ocean means that there will be no visual impact for the greater public, thus any general public panic would be minimized. It would have crippled international travel, but, to the average person, what impact would that have had on their lives?
Substitute for ten planes over the Atlantic ten markets/malls/gas stations etc. in various places in the U.S. at the same time, the casualty count might have been smaller, but the panic in the public realm would have been infinitely larger. Cause the public to question the simple things, and it would be a major defeat for the U.S. As examples, see the D.C. snipers and the Son of Sam. As long as Al Qaeda is attempting to outdo 9/11 by running a version of the Gerry Faust at Notre Dame running down the sideline yelling 'Throw the Bomb' gameplan, they won't succeed and become much easier to get caught before committing their atrocities. Barring nuclear option of course.

They are taking everthing Soda/Water/Shampoo/Toothpaste/Handcream down here in N.O. and the really funny thing is you can buy a bottle water/Soda from a vending machine as soon as you pass the metal detectors.

Well they can *control* what comes out of those machines...

Suppossedly, they're doing or going to be doing, another check at the boarding gate, like they did after 9/11, again, to remove all liquids.

So, I am addicted, addicted, I tell you - to those listerine breath spray things - it's liquid, so I assume I can't take it in. I am heading for the airport in about 10 minutes, so we'll soon see. I will report this evening on the experience. Domestic flight - San Diego to Cincy, then to Louisville.

Bush and Cheney knew about this since last Friday. They used this piece of news to wipe the headlines clean of Lamont references.

God bless the men of 2nd Bn, 127th Inf, 32d "Red Arrow" Brigade, WI Army Nat'l Guard...good luck, and come home soon.

JimBobSkeeter, you take that back. :-)

But the whole thing DID lead to one of the more memorable moments of my TV career. Here goes...

President Bush was already stopping in Green Bay on Thursday to campaign for John Gard (state politician running for Mark Green's House seat as Green challenges Jim Doyle for WI governor.) When the British terror arrests broke overnight, the original plan was for W to address the situation at his planned campaign stop.

But as Air Force One was on the way, they decided W would address the issue right there on the tarmac in Green Bay. It was hilarious watching the Secret Service scramble to set up a podium and box for us to plug in...but that wasn't all.

The network pool-hired satellite truck from Relay House couldn't relocate in time...ditto for the nat'l press pool. I was shooting it live for my station, though...so when the ABC network decided to break into programming and take it live, there was only one source: me.

So there I am, doing my liveshot for my local station, 15 feet from the leader of the free world, when a network guy comes up behind me and informs me I'm LIVE feeding the entire ABC network, on-air, coast-to-coast. Plus, the BBC picked up on it, too.

(That's the view from yours truly's camera, as used in the ABC News webcast, as well as on TV.)

Yours truly, live across the whole f*cking USA...wowsers. I be pimpin' presidents NATIONWIDE...and across the f'n globe! (Or something like that.)

I heard later that the DC and NYC bureaus were WAY pleased...couldn't stop grinning the rest of the day.

Not bad for a W'er, eh? :-)
