Aren't most WWE articles penned by someone? This one doesn't have an author's name in the article, so I'm guessing it's part of the storyline.
Da Meltz (wrestlingobeserver.com) has an article up about the injury, so that MAY mean it's legit. That sucks, because I really wanted to see that match.
(edited by Oliver on 5.8.06 0509) Here, look at the monkey! Look at the silly monkey!
If it was the left knee it would have been worse as that is the plant leg for the big boot and the leg drop. Unless someone was expecting a 52 minute classic, it could be worked around. 10 minute entrance, 1 minute match. Of course the cynic wonders if the knee acted up because Hogan already got the extra exposure for his daughter, so that benefit has already been received whether there is a match or no match. And, of course, do knees have enzymes?
Looking through the older "news" items, it actually looks like the ones that do not list an author are just straightforward news items. It looks like author names are reserved for articles about angles, fluff pieces, etc.
I also tend to believe that if they were going to work an injury, they would do something a lot more interesting than "I hurt my knee getting out of my chair." Not only is that pretty boring, it pretty much screams, "I'm old!".
The Bored are already here. Idle hands are the devil's workshop. And no... we won't kill dolphins. But koalas are fair game.

I'm kinda sick of seeing Orton versus whatever "retired star of the week" they bring in anyway. He should be in matches with Benjamin, Kennedy, Carlito - people at his own level. They give him a feature match over and over again, and he keeps getting blander and blander instead of better.
If Hogan cannot wrestle at Summerslam (or if there is more to this, and this is a cover story for a booking dispute with Vince McMahon - and there's indication that's the case), this is a major blow to Summerslam.
I think that would be sort of odd, since Hogan has creative control over his storylines. Unless, Hogan refused to put Orton over, and Vince put his foot down.
Yeah. Jobberitis. That's what Keller is trying to tell us
Randy Orton (WWE.com):
"Typical Hogan. I have been around the man since I was a child. It seems that every time he gets in a situation that he can't handle or if he gets in over his head, he blows out a knee or his back. Case and point, the old man (chuckling) blew out his knee getting up from the couch."
So no injury angle. Oy

I don't remember Hogan ever conveniently being injured when he had to job before. I know he's jumped ship, taken a vacation, and/or screwed with the booking before, but I think he has a very legit history with knee problems and he's old, so it doesn't surprise me that he'd have a spontaneous knee injury like this.
Before they even booked this match, I would expect that they'd have who's going to win or lose determined before even announcing a one-shot like this. Especially when dealing with Hogan.

I would think so too. However, this is the same company that waited until a few days before the PPV to inform Steve Austin that he would be jobbing to Jonathan Coachman. So I guess you can't TOTALLY rule it out.

No, it really doesn't. Considering his age and his aforementioned legit history with knee problems, I'm not sure most people immediately jumped to the steroid conclusion. It's not like he's a cyclist or something.
Fake or not, if it means Hogan isn't jobbing to Orton I'm for it. I'm barely able to tolerate his presence as it is. I'd rather watch those heart-warming meat.org clips than see Hogan, or anyone significant, job to Orton.

TNA, October 2003 ... Booking put in place to mark their first huge Sunday PPV with Hogan vs. Jarrett for the title.
Hogan suddenly, mid angle, opts for emergency knee surgery.
It was speculated at the time in the Torch / Observer that Hogan did in fact need surgery at some point down the road, but when he realized that his TNA gig wasn't going to cause Vince to beg him to return in time for a big WM payoff, Hogan bailed and took the surgery without warning TNA management.
With the title on the line, Hogan was not scheduled to win that match.

I don't agree with you on that. I think any rational person, whether they follow wrestling or not, is gonna look at that guy and say that something's not right there. Fifty year old men do not look like that without some kind of something, whether they work out or not, and there's been enough coverage of the Barry Bonds story this year to have most people be suspicious.

Are you fricking kidding me? Speaking as a nearly 50 year old, it happens all the time. I am always getting up or down and not able to function for a minute or two, bent over and have to struggle to straighten up.
I have (so far) always been able to, but I haven't been pretending to fight a couple times or more a week for the last 30 years or so.
We'll be back right after order has been restored here in the Omni Center.

Easy there. KathyNumbers was saying that 50 year old men don't look that, i.e. Hogan's physique is indicative of steroid use. I don't think anyone would disagree with you that the older you get, the more likely an injury is to occur, even doing something as compartively simple as getting off the couch.

Oh you young people.

If he did fake the injury, Makes him look totally old, and unfit to wrestle anyways.

I mean, how can he job to an overrated meathead like Orton if he cant even step off the couch?
After writing this, I realize the only real question here is: If you were in Hogan's shoes, Wouldnt YOU fake an injury to avoid jobbing to Randy Orton? :-/
(or Jeff Jarret for that matter lol)

There is no way in Hell Hogan was/is booked to job to Orton, unless there was a big rematch win already pencilled in for Survivor Series or something. Hogan's got complete control over his finishes, it's part of his new contract.
To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

Hogan worked through a ton of injuries in his career, that's true enough. Y'know when he was y'know getting the WWF off the ground and leading wrestling kicking and dragging into the mainstrem he wasn't taking a lot of time off to heal the nicks and bruises.
It's quite cynical to say this is a ploy to get out of a potential job when, in fact, his knee IS injured. Who are we to say 'work through it, work through it.' I play kickball every Sunday and rest assured I'm not playing kickball with a sprained ankle, much less a damaged meniscus.
This angle was also used to promote his daughter's album, say what you will...I doubt Hogan would fuck with that (I mean, they've designed the reality show around her career.) Also for that reason, it was doubtful there was any shot Orton would win that match. The booking doesn't make sense. Orton would do just like Michaels did, make Hogan look like a million bucks and come out with admiration for doing the job to the old guy.
And the TNA nonsense has always annoyed me. Hogan: not signed to a contract with TNA for that match. I also believe that they never informed him he WOUDLN'T be winning that match till the angle was shot. He took the ass-kicking in Japan and forever more Jarrett can say Hogan was scared of him. Incidentally, he's right with not burning his bridge with McMahon to do a one-shot with a then-even-more fledgling promototion. Also, it doesn't change the fact that his knee WAS injured. Hogan ain't working these constant surgeries, kids. It's a bit bloodthirsty to get mad because some dude doesn't want to fall around a ring with a gimped up knee. I mean, look at Angle and Batista for examples of the wisdom of working through injuries.
