So the Spirit Squad was under the ring?

But the sledgehammer was....under the ring?

Maybe I wasn't paying attention.

I'd like to give a shout out to Melina - great match you didn't have on Monday, Melina!

I'm so over Flair that I'll say it in TWO separate segments

Ahhhhhhhhhh enough

I think Mickie James could have made a better effort to break up the pin. She was very close, but seemed to stop as the referee counted 3. Give it your all next time, Mickie!

I prefer the slow crawl, showing her nice gold thong. But, thats just me.

Cena vs Umaga was ten times better than it had any right to be.

Otherwise, boring show.

As far as Im concerned, Umagas mystique is now destroyed. The brute - the savage - the Samoan Bulldozer exhibited independent, strategic planning by taking advantage of the opportunity to hit Cena with the Spike without Estrada needing to snap a Cuban in half. Umaga doesnt need a handler anymore, I guess. :-)

That match ruled it though.

What happened to Shane's hesitant facial reactions to his father whenever Vince did something crazy or put Shane in a match?....Poor Grish- the one time they have the camera on him for a full intro, he screws up....Carlito/Benjamin was okay....The women's match seemed pointless, unless that was Candice's face turn....Another pointless (and short) segment- Vis and Haas not explaining their actions....

Did Grish only announce "Steele and Simpson" because remembering their first names would be too much to think about while doing intros for that match?....The crowd didn't pop much for Robby's joke at the end. I thought it was kind of funny....I'm surprised there was as clean a finish in the Umaga/Cena match as there was. It wasn't clean, but I just figured it would be a no contest/DQ or something....

Orton/Eugene was nothing, but it kept Orton on TV so his feud with Hogan was fresh in our minds....Having a second Foley promo was weird. And could Flair injuring Melina be Foley's excuse to come to his friend's aid and fight Naitch?....HBK/Shane wasn't great, and the DX/McMahons feud seems to have stalled.

I don't know if this means anything, but I was watching the show at a bar, not hearing the audio, drinking. And I enjoyed the show. Actually, I thought the Cena/Umaga match was very, very good. But even drinking, with the noise down, I'm STILL annoyed by Edge.

So, what's the main event for SummerSlam? Orton/Hogan or DX/McMahons. Either way, it's better than having a silly World Title match in the main.

Was it my imagination, or did Michaels check his wrist during the DX/Highlanders skit as a rib on The Miz (like he was pretending to forget his lines)?

It is nice to see Spirit Squad get their heat back after being totally humiliated on SNME..... (cough)

Steve Austin: "Oh shit, he actually said that? I thought the boys in the back were ribbing me!"

Kelly: "No, he really said that. Did they tell you the part about you sitting in the stands, looking all skeptical?"

Austin: "AHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah... oh man that was too much."

He definitely did; after that, Tripps called him "Miz" and moved on with the promo.

I remember that from the opening skit, when they kept saying wweshop.com and Shawn flubbed intentionally after having said it at least twice and Hunter called him 'Miz'. I don't recall seeing it again when they were talking to the Highlanders.

BTW, with the exception of Cena/Umaga, which had its own problems, this show sucked. All of the stories are dead in the water. Flair/Foley? I'm just not interested and two Foley interviews seemed weird. Diva search? I will pay *checks pocket* 37 cents and half a stick of gum to anyone that will kill "Miz" and I don't care who the new Diva will be. Carlito/Nitro/Benjamin? It should've been over with the last match. Nitro/Flair? Is that all you can think of for Nitro?! Vis/Haas? Dull as dishwater. Hogan/Orton? I don't want to see Hogan. (Either of them!) I reaaaaaaaallly don't want to see Randy Orton. It's like he sucks all the heat out of any fight he touches. I certainly don't want to see this onslaught of sucktitude. dX/Spirit Squad/McMahons? COMPLETELY played out. Died on the vine and it's starting to stink up the joint.

They really need to start going another direction. Maybe the Highlanders can destroy the Spirit Squad once and for all and I won't have to see them again. Send 'em back to OVW or wherever they came from and bring 'em back one at a time with different gimmicks and I will be glad to pretend that they had nothing to do with the Spirit Squad. Maybe we could have a REAL tag division with title defenses and stuff like that. Maybe dX can pick up a couple of the up and coming guys and give them the rub. Maybe they could have a battle royal for a new contender for the IC title. Maybe Trish can become Carlito's escort and he could get a program with Cena or Edge or Somebody so he can get a little Main Event rub.

Carlito is in no way ready to start paddling in the main event deep-end. Having said that I really have no idea where they plan on going once Cena gets the strap back. Edge retaining at SummerSlam would be so much better for business (feuds against Michaels, HHH, Flair). Who else is left on the heel side for Cena to go against? Umaga? I love the guy, but he's not WWE-Title-feud material. Shelton's the only guy with the pedigree for it, and they seem to have gone off the boil with him again.

Some of this show was super-fun. Specifically Cena falling to the THUMB OF DOOM and the ongoing Nitro IC run. The double-pack of Foley was kinda weird....I assume they split the segment due to issues with the rest of the show's layout, but I think they'd have been better served with keeping it to one or the other interview chunk. Still, they're building to the evntual hardcore rematch very, very well, and it's a pleasure to watch two people who can actually promo getting Raw airtime.

I second the DX moanage. The gimmick is fun in its own way and still has a part to play, but they're just beating this McMahon/SS stuff into the ground. Then pissing on it for good measure. I think the SS split is coming, sad to say-no way they bury them this badly and keep 'em around as a five-man unit.

How powerful is DX? Powerful enough to break the WWE trend of wrestlers losing in front of their hometown crowds. I fully expected Shawn to die and die big tonight.

The highlight of the night was Cena diving through the blackboard. Everything else was simply shrug-worthy.

After seeing Shane's facials during the opening promo, I just had this weird feeling all night long that Shane was goingt o turn and join DX. Then, when he came out with his usual jersey with a black t-shirt underneath, I became more suspicious. THEN, during the whole match, it seemed like Shane was intentionally doing everything he could to keep his jersey from riding up, revealing the DX t-shirt underneath (available at merchandise stand around the building and on wweshop.com). I was completely deflated when nothing happened.
The first Foley promo was great. I walked into the living room halfway thru the second one andthought they were replaying the first one. Nope. That was weird.
For some reason, the Simposon dude in the tag team squash reminded me of Iron Mike Sharpe. Don't ask me why.

Foley was referring to the match when she beat Trish LAST Monday (which was still "Monday" when Foley likely taped these segments.)

Foley is always innovative. He's a pretty smart guy doing stuff over many people's heads. He's cutting great promos about how he never wants to wrestle some one again which will then build to that very match. And now that Flair has caused his close, personal, very good friend Melina to hurt her ankle, Foley has the motivation he needs to come back and beat the hell out of that old, washed-up piece of crap! Yeah!

Mick Foley, at the end of the promo, going from angry, screaming Mick to happy, smiley Mick in 0.5 seconds was great! "THERE WILL BE NO REMATCH!!! *thumbs up* YEAH!"

The second half of the show was fine, but nothing spectacular. The first half bored me to death, though. It was just a bunch of stuff thrown out there. It rememinded me of those 3-hour 1999 Nitros where they had matches like Ernest Miller v. Emory Hale or Hugh Morrus v. Glacier, and they just threw them out there with no rhyme or reason.

Wasnt really feeling tonight's show neither, but thankfully it both sucked and was fast. Umaga and Cena was probably the highlight of the night.

What really cracked me up was Nitro telling Flair "We Hang Out" regarding their relationship with Mick Foley.

But the way they're building up Summerslam, they really haven't given me any big reason why I should flop down 40 bucks to get it...Hogan/Orton isn't interesting, especially if the big surprise will be Brooke at ringside either turning on her dad, or something to that effect.

I can only see Cena and Edge so many times, before it gets played out, and the same goes for DX and McMahon's. The match that does intrigue me is Carlito and Nitro, but not enough to warrant a PPV buy.

I can't really disagree with anyone too much, the show just kinda hung there. I did like the spot Shawn did, where the SS tossed him but he landed on his feet and came out fighting. And I'm glad to see Striker getting mic time, although it would've been nice for it to be going toward his OWN angle, and not somebody else's.

Foley/Flair in a bloody hardcore brawl is my chief reason for looking forward to SummerSlam. That and the strong possibility of ~KING BOOKER~ defending the world title.

DX main event = 20 fewer minutes I spend watching Raw. Would have been 40 if I'd known how long the show-starting promo was going to run. I know, I really need to get Tivo.

All I'm hoping for the Viscera/Haas angle is that it doesn't end up with them being woman-hating gay lovers.

At least Cena and Umaga brought their working boots last night, and Carlito and Shelton had an okay match, although not up to the standard they're capable of.

I was wondering this same thing, and as much of a filler-type storyline this is, I can't figure out where else it could go. I mean, a Viscera/Lilian make-out scene would be uncomfortable enough, but a Viscera/Haas make-out scene...eesh oosh.

Cena/Umaga was watchable for me, but booking that match in the first place didn't make sense. Not that I expect RAW matches to make sense, but still...you know.

I haven't been entertained by DX since the Shane/Vince parody, and it seemed more of a head-shaker to see DX not get left laying last night. While I once thought it would be cool to see the NAO or Waltmann come out and join up, I realize that it might be fun for a week, and then I'd be back to thinking of the hilarity and wacky hijinx that a Highlanders/Bushwackers match would bring about.

I'd like to see a Highlanders vs Sheepherders match with Heenan, Jesse and Gorilla Monsoon on commentary. It could be a gimmick match involving sheep. An inflatable sheep on a pole match! I wouldn't be upset if it was changed to a sheepard's staff and you could use it as a weapon and the losers were sheared. This would be the best match to ever take place in the history of the world. I may be exploring hyperbole here though.

I honestly hope that the Highlanders bring back the tag team division.

I hope that Armando Alejandro Estrada brings back managers. I think I would like to see him with a stable. I'm not a fan of Umaga except when he's beating up Cena just like I wasn't a fan of a lot of wrestlers as a kid until they started to beat up Hogan. What was the name of that monk that Fuji managed that used the green mist? Killer Monk?

Why does Umaga have a grill?

The spirit squad are better than how they're being used right now. I don't like the new DX right now.

Killer Khan.
If ever there was a night where it made perfect sense for them to end the show 2 minutes earlier with DX layed out, it was last night. Would have made perfect sense and helped the build to SummerSlam. Instead, DX recovers in a manner that would make Hogan of '85 seem like a jobber.

This surprises me. For all of his failings he still was one of the more over people on the roster and moved a ton of merchandise. I wonder if his exit and Lita's return were at all related.
