Cena/Benjamin was a fun opener, and a good way to hook the audience quickly with a Cena match. Seemed the hottest crowd heat came during WWE Unlimited though...Vince and Shane wanting to destroy Eugene tonight was kinda random, and him being excited about DX was kind of a lame way to get things started....Melina/Trish was pretty good too. The one bright spot in splitting up MNM was Melina being added to the women's division....Conway got beat up by Striker during Unlimited after the average Highlanders match. Don't tell me they're making Robert a face- he's a great heel....

I liked Foley's promo on Flair. But I don't like Naitch in ECW....The ending with Haas and Viscera sharing a laugh didn't make much sense, even with King's attempted explanation....I liked the Edge/Lita/hotel segments....I don't usually change the channel during wrestling, but I had to turn it to the Home-Run Derby during the DivaSearch segment....

Thanks to that, I missed the short Val/Orton match, but I did catch his promo at the end....Come on, Grisham doing announcing for the last match, and he doesn't even pull out the "MAAAAINNNN EEEVENNNNT" call? (A little inside "Heat" joke)....I liked Eugene getting the surprise win after everyone forgot him, as well as Vince's code phrase, but the rest of the last segment I could do without.

So Edge is minding his own business and Cena attacks him unprovoked. Edge responds by kicking Cena's ass face-to-face. And how does Cena respond to that? By sneak-attacking Edge at his hotel room? Why is Cena a good guy here? (and for that matter, what makes Edge so bad here?) Is there any wonder why Cena gets so many boos?

Foley's promo was gold (though that Melina reference was about as awkward as it gets). Unfortunately though, the end result seems to be that ECW is hour number 3 of Raw again. I guess that's fine, but if the point of ECW is not to bring in a different audience, I kind of fail to see what the point exactly is.

At least the DX stuff didn't overstay it's welcome this week.

After watching Foley's promo tonight, I'm counting down the days until we see him in the news getting locked up for stalking Melina. Its really disturbing how he references her at times, tonight being the prime example.

WTF is up with Show's eyes? Its not the first time I've noticed, but his eyes always look really dark, and with heavy bags under them.

Raw was just kinda there tonight. Almost like they were saving up the SNME guys for SNME, and letting the Heat crew shine during most of the show.

For utter lack of anything to watch last night, I decided that I'd try to sit through RAW. The first hour or so, through the end of the Ric Flair/Big Show confrontation, was generally put together well and quite decent. The Cena/Benjamin match was A.O.K. in my book.

However, the second hour of the broadcast was just so disjointed and poorly executed, I thought I was watching 1999 WCW at moments. The Vis/Haas/Lillian angle was just nonsensical, the Diva Search segment, while bad overall, was made even worse by The Miz (man, was that embarrassing!), the Orton/Hogan setup for SNME was just... dumb, and the "main event" was tripe. And, this is all I'll say about the end of the show-- get this rendition of dX off my TV NOW, dammit!

I haven't watched RAW Hour Three (ECW) since the second edition, and quite frankly, I have no interest in watching it again, although I will say that the brainless mark in me is intrigued when it comes to the pending ECW Title match between Big Show and The Man. As Show was mentioning how he's the only person to hold the WCW, WWF/E, and ECW World Titles, I kept saying to myself, "Why doesn't he mention the fact that he whooped Ric Flair back in the day for his first legitimate World Title?!" But of course, that would require WWE to actually acknowledge history that's not actually theirs, and of course, the EEEEE seems to be very selective about wrestling history anyway, so I guess that's all moot. Anyway...

Lastly-- Boy, was Edge quite the sh*tkicker tonight! To boot, the segments at the hotel were pretty great actually, and was the only thing that kept me tuned in for the second half of RAW.

And I'm in total agreement with ges7184's perspective on John Cena. After the last Edge segment of the night, I was wondering or not this was the beginning of a Cena heel turn or something, simply because of the fact that his attack just seemed so backwards and devoid of any face-type motivation to avenge the beatdown he received at the top of the program. Cena acted like a cowardly loser. And for someone who's extremely over with the kids, how do the kiddies in the Chain Gang respond to Cena's hotel room attack?!

Think about the children, John!

Edge is an asshole. Cena's not. The face/heel divide isn't that hard to work out. I'm pretty sure if this were, say, Chris Benoit pulling of those attacks, no-one would bat an eyelid over him coming off as a loser.

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. ...Which is exactly why what Cena pulled makes little sense. At least when it came to Steve Austin during his war against the Corporation, more often than not, the actions of his adversaries were so egregious that it required a heinous response. Cena's actions are apparently rooted in some blind need for revenge. HEELS do that kind of thing.

The way I see it, Edge has simply outclassed and outsmarted John Cena at virtually every turn throughout much of this year. So far, Edge has proven that he's just plain better than John Cena. In my opinion, the attack at the hotel makes Cena more in the guise of a frustrated Randy Savage unable to wrest Hulk Hogan of the WWF Title back in the day than a GOOD guy who wants to right a wrong.

So says you. If Chris Benoit did pull off an attack ala Cena, it would be the same thing. And since you DID bring up Chris Benoit, an attack such as this would be much more warranted and acceptable say, if Benoit came back and jumped Mark Henry, since, after all, Mark Henry tried to put Benoit out for good.

In fact, on the SD! side, that's why Batista's beatdown of Mr. Henry was effective and made sense. Why? Because it was JUSTIFIED.

Edge has repeatedly screwed Cena since January this year. Saying he's "outclassed and outsmarted" him is exactly the kind of heel justification HE'D use, especially seeing as hwo, in every one-on-one match situation, Cena's beaten the crap out of him and got the win. Cena' got every right to be pissed off with him-Edge has fucked up every opportunity he's had since ONS. He cost him the inital match with RVD, he cost him the rematch, he screwed him last week with a belt shot. Cena's got every justification you can have in the world of pro wrestling for wanting to beat on Edge. Trying to read into it that he's a frustrate dloser is just more pointless hating on the guy.

I'm not hating on John Cena at all. But maybe I'm still confused as to exactly WHO John Cena is, because for me, Cena's still too ambiguous. Is he more of the devil-may-care anti-hero or the superhero type? Does he still have that heeled out Professor of Thuganomics lurking somewhere in his psyche or is he someone bound by some sense of honor?

Maybe it's because I still generally view 'faces in that early 1990s-Sting or Ricky Steamboat type of way, true blue and all that (despite the fact that I think Stone Cold Steve Austin 1n 1997-99 was AWESOME.)

Or maybe it's just because I'm just marking out for Edge WAY TOO MUCH at this juncture. Hmmm....

Edit: BTW, The comments I made above about Cena is what, for me, makes him perhaps the most interesting personality to watch in WWE right now.

What was with those ads promoting Cena as the new dominating force in wrestling, or something along those lines? Guess the rumors are true that he is now to be protected like he was Hogan or Austin.
The Foley promo was great until it totally went off of the rails when Show and Paul E. showed up.
And anyone notice how thin (or thinner) Edge is getting? Good to see the wellness program paying off again.

If it weren't for Edge this show would have totally reeked. But he should have been doing hard liquor shots at the bar instead.

And as much as I'm sour on the Eugene character, I would have loved to see him try a crotch chop.

Poor Val Venis ... first his tag team partner (and I use that term loosely) turns heel and appears to side with Charlie Haas & then Val has to play S.D. Jones to Randy Orton's King Kong Bundy.

Almost a dozen years after the infidels chanted 'Flair is Dead' he is wrestling for the ECW Title. Anyone have any West Coast scores from the Hell Hockey League?
ECW does need to show The Giant breaking the Figure 4 with the chokeslam to win the WCW Title though.
Shelton probably needs to be sent away from RAW.
Anyway they can use Lillian's injury as a way to bring back The Fink to RAW?
Did they bring in The Voice-Over Guy because they no longer have any faith in Ross being able to know who is wrestling next?

Shockingly, Eugene won the main event match. Will he be the next member inducted into DX06? If the 'E is going to play out the storyline longer than just a couple of weeks, If they are not going to kill Eugene's character (and he was over last night, especially in the backstage segments but also some in the ring) then maybe he and perhaps Snitsky and Eugene might get to learn from the 2 best all-around performers on the roster. Probably just wishful thinking on my part, but I would probably be more accepting of DX v3 if a younger guy would benefit from it. Maybe instead Kenny will turn on the rest of the Spirit Squad, forsaking them for what DX has to offer.

Foley's promo misses the mark for me. "Flair kicked my ass but I don't care, I'm a better AUTHOR than he is?"

I thought Show did a decent job trying to set up an actual feud on ECW. Even though Ric Flair entertains the hell out of me, I still cringe every time he takes a bump, he really looks like an old man. It wouldn't surprise me if they gave him the ECW strap due to someone like perhaps Knox or Roadkill interfering to start a feud with Show. I wouldn't mind seeing Ric act as Roadkill's mouthpiece, for a couple of weeks. Obviously they are trying to salvage a bad situation in ECW with RVD on the shelf, but I hope they can make something of this. They are pretty much guaranteeing Ric will bleed for us tonight, but I wonder how a "real" ECW crowd would have reacted to their title match being fought between these two decidedly non-ECW superstars.

And Show's eyes always look puffy.

Well, that's not what he actually said. What he said was that while Flair beat him, Foley made Flair bleed and his family cry, and that's all he wanted from the match. The stuff about Foley being a better author was to counter Flair's assertions that he was a better man than Foley because of his 16 World titles. Foley doesn't care, he has accomplishments of his own.

That's the whole point, though - it's become a running gag, in a sense, that he keeps making reference to Melina in columns, on-the-air, etc. To me it seems exactly like a Foley-ish thing to do, and I've never for a second thought that it's anything but his character providing a little continuity for the fans. Hell, he's frequently made reference to Al Snow for no reason, taking shots at his wrestling ability, but I think we all know that's in good fun. I don't think anyone is thinking "shit, Mick, seriously, what in the hell do you have against Al?" The Melina references, in my opinion, are the exact same thing.

And to me, the Foley promo was the only thing worth watching on Raw this week.

I enjoyed last week's Raw because I was there, but replacing fun skits with the ruthless skits this week of the McMahon's beating up on Eugene and Duggan is not what I want to see.

Plus, I didn't have to watch a five hour long Diva Segment hosted by the Miz, a guy who can't remember five numbers and the delicate art of text messaging. Oh, and he apparently doesn't know that the WWE has a website called wwe.com. Man, and I liked The Miz back when he was on the RW/RR Challenge.

Ya know what might be a fun way to salvage the Eugene character while incorporating him into DX?

Run a gimmick where Eugene somehow becomes smart when he gets drunk. The more he drinks, the more devious he becomes.

The Highlanders are a breath of fresh air. I really dug the way they tagged each other.

Hopefully WWE will keep Eugene in a main event angle for the sole purpose of turning him heel as Nick Dinsmore. It's no longer exciting or fun when he comes out to the ring.

The Diva Search segment was the best segment of the show.Of course since I'm a straight man, I prefer segments with women in skimpy outfits rather than men in skimpy outfits. But, everyone has their preference, most men like steak while others prefer hotdogs.

So HD with no widescreen? Ugh, I hate using the stretch option. In a perfect world Hardy wins and Trips goes full-on heel or Hardy vs. HBK in a ladder match for the belt. CC
