Good show, again. We're 2-1 with the ECW on Sci-Fi show.

Sabu v. Roadkill was very fun. Very ECW-esque. Sabu is going to be such a star if he continues on the roll he's on now.

Kurt Angle's promo for his match was great.

Mike Knox v. Danny Doring accomplished what it needed to. Only 2-minutes, but Knox looked pretty good.

Kelly is hot, and her gimmick has potential. But they need to cut down on the amount of time they focus on her. NOBODY actually believes she's gonna' flash her nipples on screen, so they shouldn't waste 10-minutes building up to it.

I liked the Sandman skit, but it wasn't nearly as good as The Zombie or Macho Libre. I just need a month off from any man-ass on my television.

RVD v. Angle was a great main-event. I am genuinley shocked that Van Dam won, as I thought Angle would get the win via Edge interference, to turn the SNME match into a four-way. Van Dam is on quite a roll, with three great matches, three nights in a row. Only negative were all the little kids chanting for Cena.

Anyways, after the last two shows, the ECW brand has real promise. I just hope Vince doesn't change his mind again, and they go back to what they were doing that first week.

Only suggestion I have is that they should start to change up the formula, just a bit. I like the formula their using, but they should just change it every now and then so the show doesn't get too predictable.

EDIT: I forgot two things.

1) They continued the Big Show/Tommy Dreamer storyline, with Dreamer doing the "Thank you sir, may I have another" line, and Show came out and... well, gave him another. I'm intrigued to see where this goes.

2) They REALLY cut down on the sci-fi stuff this week. The Vampire made a 2-second appearance outside the building, like he has previous weeks, but that was it. This is a good thing.

I was surprised Roadkill got that much offense in against Sabu....Tommy Dreamer gets his ass kicked again; there's a surprise....Good, intense promo from Angle to set up the main event....Knox looked okay against Doring, and the "fan" took a nice bump, but I get the sense Knox isn't a full-fledged heel....Okay, who in WWE has the fat male stripper fetish?....Very good main event. I won't have a problem if they make it a habit to have the main event run 15 minutes every week.

I should really pay attention to which thread I'm posting...apparently the other one was a rambling one while this one is the actual discussion.

What I found likable. Sabu vs Roadkill...crowd seemed into it and the Arabian face buster through the table was great. Unfortunate I could hear Sabu telling Roadkill to roll over.

Mike Knox and Kelly, I'll just let it roll and see where I goes.

Love where Tommy/Show is going...old school. Damn you've drawn me in.

Sandman and wrestlecrap Fat Male Chip N' Dale...Sandman was having a laugh before he made the mistake of taking his beer...that is some REALLY, worse than Raw, white ass! He left ken-do mark to which I was laughing about.

RVD vs Angle: WOW! That was freaking awesome match...I want more of them.

RVD in a good match vs Kurt Angle? Who would have thought THAT was possible? Shows that when motivated RVD can bring the goods.

Hey, is RVD gonna end up outshining the rest of the company as he did in 2001, then get sabotaged when nobody saw it coming (and nobody in the company wanted it)?

"We want Cena!" Wow.

By my count, only 7 of the next 9 tapings will be SD-combined tapings, before WWE hopefully dumps the necessary capital into bringing a TV production crew out for an extra day a week (that includes raises for the TV folks, too).

RVD's definitely been bringing it since becoming champ. Apparently a title belt is more than sufficient motivation to bust his ass, heh. It's good to see the Van Dam of old show up in spurts again.

Sabu/Roadkill was just one hell of an entertaining match. If each ECW show can have at least one good match on the same basis as this, something in the old ECW vein with purely ECW wrestlers, it'll only do the show good. And kudos to the big Amish man not being jobbed out! Hopefully this'll lead to a resurgence of the cult following he and Doring were starting to build at ECW's end.

Big Show is now wearing his working boots. Alongside his ass-kicking ones. Heyman definitely has some plans in mind here, and I can't wait to see them unfold. And yes, in a nod to the past and to message boards everywhere that asked for it, Tommy busted out the 'Thank you' line. It fit perfectly, heh.

Now I know the Zombie won the hearts of millions, but this sports-entertainment beatdown to me showed the Sandman at his best. Not at his wrestling best, but his entertaining best. This was definitely his funniest performance to date, now he just needs a direction aside from caning SE rejects.

Jesus, that was so short I somehow completely missed it. Good.

Some other random thoughts...

I was FLOORED when Rob Van Dam got the clean pin, and he's definitely won me back in terms of his workrate. I initially agreed with the "getting the title lit a fire under him argument" that I've been seeing as of late, but I've been wondering lately if that long lay-off isn't what's responsible for his in-ring resurgence. He definitely had rust coming back, but I've seen steady improvement and it seems with each subsequent match he's in better form.

Alright, we get it, Sandman beats up weirdos. Week four, time to actually do something with him.

I hope WWE's smart enough not to debut Test during one of the two tapings NOT done with Smackdown. I get the feeling an ECW crowd will crap all over him, and it'll be ugly.

Kelly segments are BORING.

That is all.

Maybe it's just me, but if they bring that crap here to Philly next week, they're going to be in serious trouble.

Sabu's already a star, Omega. He's already been featured on at least 2 WWE DVD's apart from the ECW ones, so he should be sort of familiar to the WWE fans. He deserved a Taz like build up, and they could have used clips from the Benoit and Van Dam DVD's.

People watching might not be THAT familiar with Doring, Roadkill, and Francine, but I think they know they were in ECW. They don't know who the heck Mike Knox and Kelly are.

I liked Sandman vs. Justin on Saturday, and I'm not that crazy about Justin. They should have done that again instead of having Sandman beat up a fat guy.

I think it cheapens RVD's win to have him go over Angle just to have it become secondary to the Raw guy punking him out.

I'm really disappointed in ECW TV thusfar.

-I had never really seen Roadkill wrestle much before, but the turnbuckle move he used, first rope, second rope elbow drop was awesome. Sabu gashed himself pretty well with that table spot.

-Is it just me or does Big Show look like he's slimmed down? Looks good regardless, and watching him beat the shit out of Tommy Dreamer...good times.

-Didn't see Vengeance but did Paul give RVD the same "i'm worried blah blah blah" speech that he did last night and tonight? Yeah, kinda lame.

-Angle's promo was great, and I thought for sure he'd be in the fatal fourway at SNME, so RVD winning was a bit of a surprise. Then again, say he would have won at SNME and won the title, does that mean he can stay on ECW or has to jump back to Raw??

-Vince's stripper got 2 weeks of airtime on WWE TV, I believe his 15 minutes of fame are up. But I do like the fact they seem to be taking the most lame Sports Entertainment part from Raw or Smackdown and annhilating them via Sandman.

Show is definitely getting better and better, and glad to see a little less Raw involvement this week, with the bits that are work in with the WWE title picture.

Roadkill was a lot better than I remember him being. Good mobility. And I'll say it. "Slim" may not be better looking than Kelly, but he is a better dancer. Zombie's still my favorite of the wrestlecrap guys though.

They are steadily improving. If I recall correctly, Edge was the only RAW presence, and that is a real improvement in and of itself.

Y'know, given the Sandman caning Wrestlecrap every week, do you think that may play into Test's debut? I only thought of this due to the general reaction here of them keeping the "Test" name. It would give each of them a good start to a feud.

I still cannot believe RVD went over Angle cleanly. Impressive.

Glad to see more of the ECW-ers on tonight, especailly Doring and Roadkill. The nice thing is (at least according to the ECW roster page) is that there are still some other performers waiting in the wings - CW Anderson, the FBI, Stevie Richards, and Al Snow for example - that can provide actual ECW opponents instead of having RAW/Smackdown performers or wrestlecrap fodder trotted out there.

Kelly is smoking hot, but these ridiculous segments with her are a waste of time. The only thing I could see would be if they pull a stunt with her at a PPV, which is about the only way I can see this resolving.

RVD/Angle is my Match of the Year. They were both in a groove and were given plenty of time to build to the finish. I have no problem with Edge punking Rob afterward because RVD was so exhausted from wrestling Kurt. Also, the commentary was spot-on, as Styles identified nelson variations and took a shot at Cole.

Does the Parking Lot Vampire just wander around out there because no one ever invites him into the arena?

And I know it's cheap to make fun of closed captions ... but the CC guy thought "Kelly's Expose" was "Kelly's Easy Pose," which is so much better.

Can't complain too much about this show when it gave me two good matches, even if there was a lot of junk sandwiched in between.

I'm really surprised that Angle isn't going to be in the title match at SNME & that RVD got a clean win (no Edge interference). I'm actually intrigued to see where Angle's character goes now.

I liked the comment in this thread about Big Show putting on his "working boots". And I like the fact that we haven't seen him do the chokeslam yet.

I was somewhat impressed with Mike Knox. But he looks like Charlie Haas with the shaggy hair & the beard.

I am liking ECW more each week. Hopefully as month from now it will have it's own identity away from RAW/Smackdown.

THe one thing I hate each week is Kelly. She is an awful dancer. Why not just hire some local stripper to do what she does? Her big move is the hair flip. What next week (like sho WONT be on) and see how many times she hand flips her hair. She is a waste of time. The only good that can come out of this is if Sandman canes her next.

This was the first week of the new ECW that I've actually liked. Really good, entertaining show, I thought, and the annoying tagline they're pushing is right -- it is a fast hour, even faster if you fast forward through the Kelly segment, which I did.

I think a few things gelled for me this week that hadn't yet. No. 1, it felt more like ECW than ever before. Heyman's fingerprints were clearly all over this episode. Angle's promo was awesome, and certainly Heyman's doing. Also very Heymanesque: Mike Knox wrestles, no nickname, black trunks, black boots. His gimmick is less a character than a real guy in a situation. I like it, personally. Kelly works as a character in this context, too, though I'm surprised they kept going with the "expose." (And where was Knox before the end? Did he think she'd stop short? Was he giving her the benefit of the doubt?) Then, of course, you had the hot little Sabu-Roadkill match to start (though I still hate Roadkill's gimmick), with the show opening on Sabu mid-entrance, and the great RVD-Angle match to close.

No. 2, I'm starting to accept the parts that don't feel like ECW. Edge and Lita really do seem like they fit in with this show, you know? (I might be feeling like this more because there was no Cena this week, just Edge, who does have an ECWish air -- and Lita's actually been in ECW!) The crowd was decent, too. The only thing that really made me wince was the all-women-and-children "We Want Cena" chant. Yecch. Hey, here's an idea! How about from now on, after the Smackdown taping, they announce that ECW is for adults 18 and up only, and all kids have to leave? I like this plan! Sure, some will stay anyway, but who cares? Those'll be the teenagers who like chanting things with "fuck" in them. If they're worried about this affecting ticket sales, I really don't think it will -- parents aren't going to avoid buying tickets to two to three hours of wrestling just because they're going to have to leave with their kids at 10 p.m. on a school night.

But here I am, still dwelling on problems and solutions. For the first time, I think they're on the right track.

I have nothing witty to put here.

Good show again. The main event was very good. RVD now has gone over Cena, Edge, and Angle in the last month, 3 established main eventers. While he is not being booked as the top guy on the shows, they are still putting him over big time with those wins. Maybe a win over HHH down the road would cement his place in the main event. But we know that will not happen.
Big Show continues to be booked well, if only they had booked him like this when he first entered the WWF in 1999, he would be a legend at this point. Maybe not quite to the level of Andre, but still a legend. Instead he seems like a big disappointment who they are trying to salvage. Hate to say it, but he was booked better as The Giant in WCW.

I think you are overestimating the general audience. Sabu is not nearly the star you think he is, especially to the casual audience Vince is trying to attract. Don't get me wrong, he is a talent, but he hasn't had enough exposure needed to make him a proven draw. But, showcasing him like this is a heck of a way to sell tickets. Right now, the only guys on the ECW roster that sell tickets are Sandman and RVD. Angle and Show are also draws, but folks still think of them as WWE guys.

If someone would have told me 6 months ago that RVD would have 3 straight matches with Edge, Cena, and Angle, I would have been VERY surprised if all three of them were great.

True.

RVD stepped up for a tough title defense against a guy working a completelty different style. And because of that style clash, this should have sucked out loud.

RVD matches leave me pretty cold; he kicks a lot, hits his three turnbuckle moves (kick, sault, splash), and does the Rolling Thunder. That's an RVD match. But last night we saw spots wre he evaded the Angle Slam altogether and escaped the Anglelock at least three times. It wasn't about him winning as much as keeping Angle from winning. Did Angle carry him? Probably, yeah. But if so, he carried to him to a helluva match.

Also, I was expecting any serious pinfall or submission to be broken up by Edge, who never entered the match. ECW teased it every few minutes. That suspense/cynicism added something extra. And then RVD cleanly beat Angle, something I never expected him to do. We had a series of credible near falls, not just the obligatory series of transition moves into an easy kickout.

Angle busted out the capture suplex, a move I consider to be one of the most impressive of that type and a move you rarely see anymore. He hit the pop-up superplex. He tossed out two different types of Germans, and the first sone garndered some solid commentary from Tazz and Styles about timing and strategy. Angle was working last night.

For all the things that didn't happen (Edge interference, cheap DQ/countout, the two-belt champ tapping to set up a SNME four-way, ref bump, run-in to establish another ECW guy, awkward style clash) that was as suprising a match and as entertaining a match as I've seen this year. They had the time and the scenario to have a fun, involving bout, and they hit their marks. And even more astonishing, it was the right thing to do. How many times have we bitched about a stupid run-in that should have happened after a pinfall? Last night, we got it. RVD was established as the rightful champ of a new roster by beating the guy they've built as unstoppable, and he wasn't made to look weak in favor of Edge or Cena.

It could have gone wrong in a lot of predictable ways, and it didn't. That makes me a happy fan.
