I am not a 'Canes fan by any stretch, but I am a Rod Brind'Amour fan and it is good to see him finally get a ring.
Anyone that used to date Missy Hyatt in her heyday is OK with me.
www.oklafan.com Big Show: Why is he getting the Intercontinental Title shot and not me? RVD: Ahhh...maybe 'cause you're a tool. Big Show: Look. I am 7'2". I am 500 pounds. I'm a giant. RVD: Oh ok. You're a giant tool.
As a long time fan of the Whalers / Hurricanes organization, someone who has shunned the local Senators and continued to stand by my team since my childhood - last night was the best Sports Night I've had in 11 years, since my Atlanta Braves defeated the Indians to win the 1995 World Series.
I've sat through lousy teams, early playoff exits, defensemen dying immediately following early playoff exits, humiliating losses, getting my hopes up with a cup run that was derailed in 5 games ..... This was awesome.
Well... "Whatever It Takes" as a team slogan says it all for these guys.
Justin Williams is perhaps the best stick handler in the league right now. They should present him with a trophy. Maybe a stick. With Saku Koivu's eye mounted to the blade. It would be sour grapes of me if he'd only committed ONE stick infraction, but this guy was prolific -- three against Montreal alone, two against Jersey, two against Buffalo. And how many penalties? Yikes.
Brindamour spent half of his ice time sitting on goalies, and the other half whining to refs. Great playoffs, indeed. Quite the resurgence for good ol' Rod.
Stillman with the flying forearm to welcome Markenen to the Stanley Cup was just a class act. Great work!
Look, I'm all for tough, rock em sockem hockey, but I'm sick of dirty hockey. I thought the "New NHL" was supposed to solve that. Then what happens? The dirtiest team in the league wins the cup.
I'll reserve my congratulations for whomever wins the cup next year. Carolina sure didn't earn it.
You assume that I care where the cup winning team is from. I'm one of the few that thought Tampa winning was actually kind of cool. I am a hockey fan, and this wasn't hockey. So please reserve your derisive dismissal for somebody who "earns" it.

Ryan Smyth playing nasty, garbage hockey isn't the point, nor does it justify the kind of nasty, garbage hockey the 'Canes were playing for the entirety of the playoffs. As for Greene spending half the finals in the box -- hey, great, so the refs know how to call penalties after all. If only other guys who deserved to rot in the box actually did so.
Winning four and hoisting the cup doesn't mean they earned it. They nearly ended careers, ran goalies (repeatedly!), checked from behind, tripped, slashed, dove, dove, dove, dove, sat on goalies, and then, wait for it...
WHINED when Edmonton did it to them. Come on, Bullitt. You heard Brindamour -- the guy had the gall to whine about Smyth, numerous times, for sitting on goalies. And Rod's the guy who's made an art out of sitting on goalies.
Effective? Yep. Hypocritical? Yep.
I even had a soft spot for Carolina as a team for many years. How could you not like them a few years ago? How could you not like guys like Ron Francis?
That 2002 team, they would have earned the cup had they won.

Agreed. Definitely glad to see Rod get one. Can't say the same about Mark Recchi, though. The man destroyed two locker rooms in 2 seasons, and is rewarded with getting his name on the cup again? Meh.
As a Flyers fan, I grew to love Recchi. He just seems to be in the right place at teh right time I guess. I was heartbroken when he was traded the first time from Philly and again the second time.

Not bad, they really came alive during the third period. I thought it was going to be all downhill after that short-handed Detroit goal. But Colorado did it, finally playing up to the level Detroit had been playing all day.
