Right now, a team of mathemiticians is locked in a room somewhere, trying to create a number that will accurately describe the fine that Mark Cuban's about to be hit with.

No, I watched Game 5. And I saw Wade kinda push Shaggy off with his forearm in the closing moments tonight. The aggressor always gets the calls. It's always been that way.

Well, look who's holding up a championship trophy? Hint: It's not Kobe.

If this doesn't cost Mitch Kupchak his job, I don't know what will, because the Lakers franchise has been embarrassed on this day.

1) They traded Caron Butler to DC not Lamar Odom.

2) I think at this point the only power Mitch Kupchak has is deciding whether to go to Dunkin' Donuts or Krispy Kreme to fetch the Buss family their donuts and coffee.

I consider Caron Butler to have a much higher upside than Lamar Odom. Odom turned it up for this year's playoffs, but Butler consistently played hard and was rewarded with a trade to the other side of the country.

That may be true, but the sour taste in many Lakers' fans mouths over seeing that their team has seemingly backed the wrong horse calls for a Steinbrenner-like eruption in the front office. And if someone's head is going to roll, it'll be Kupcake's, for sure.

And if the Lakers franchise isn't embarrassed yet, I'm waiting for the inevitable Shaq championship promo in which he'll proceed to point and laugh.

Of course (getting back to the topic at hand), I'm also fulling expecting Shaq to ride off into the sunset now. He's got his championship and he had a shot blocked by JOSH HOWARD! This shouldn't be a case of trying for a new dynasty. This should be a case of "one for the road". I really think that Shaq will retire.

EDIT: And upon further reflection...we don't have a Dunkin Donuts here in L.A.

The Heat need to get themselves a new webmaster. When the Pistons won the championship two years ago, they had it plastered all over their official website within minutes. It's now 1:15 a.m. Eastern, and you wouldn't know the Heat had even played Game 6, let alone won the freakin' NBA Championship, by looking at their website.

3 am: Now that all the beer has been drunk and all the whooping it up has been whooped, it's almost like that scene in The Shawshank Redemption where the roofers are drinking all of Tim Robbins' beer and he has this little contented smile and just sitting there. And it makes all the bad worthwhile: 0-17, Shaffel/Cunningham, The Knicks, Zo's Kidney, the 2005 East Finals, etc. Thank you Flash, thank you Shaq, thank you Riles, thank you The Other Guys. You Heat are good. Real good.

But, of course, to put it all in perspective is one of the bad things that came back to be one of the very very good things. My team winning a title didn't almost get me all choked up, but this did:

http://cbs4.com/video/?id=19035@wfor.dayport.com

And finally, 18 years after inception and 11 years after it was promised, there's going to be a parade down Biscayne Blvd. Too bad I won't be there to see it live.

Congrats, Josh, and congratulations also to the Miami Heat and all their fans. You played the game with class, skill and integrity, and you deserve to be exactly where you are, as NBA Champions.

I am not a hEat fan at all but I am a HUGE D-Wade fan so I am glad that he won his title before Lebron (but not before Darko!).

I also think Shaq should retire. Playing in the East means he can still be the #1 center for a couple of more years, but why tarnish the legacy? he got his title without LA, Phil and Kobe so he should move on. However, i do think he will try for the thumb.

OK, I'll play the part of the Dallas Blowhard. For the Heat to win, they have to win 4 out of the next 5 games. That is just not going to happen. The Mavs did lose 4 out of 5 once during the regular season. But it is not, I repeat, not going to happen at this point in the finals.

I can see the Heat pulling out all of the stops and winning tonight (Tue), and maybe even get lucky in one two other games in Miami. But that is it.

Dallas, plan the parade for the NBA champion Dallas Mavericks. And be sure to catch the trophy presentation where David Stern gives the trophy to Mark Cuban. Should be gold. Cuban has stated that he will get naked to receive the trophy. Later he amended this to wearing a speedo. I doubt that either of these will happen, but there should be some good tension given their history.

This is now the funniest post on The W.

I gave up on basketball a long time ago once my Knicks quit trying, but I will always have deep hatred for the Heat. So uh...fuck this! Dallas deserved every bit of this loss for announcing a parade schedule. Over 100 years of sports jinxes and you would think somebody would take notes NOT to do things like that. Have fun with the Cubs in therapy. Jeeeez.

I totally expected and deserve this. Congratulations to the Miami Heat, Dwyane Wade, and the basketball gods.

Well, that was a hell of a game, and an end to great series of playoff games in general. This was easily the first year that I was this excited about the playoffs without MY team being involved.

Congrats to the East Coast Lakers... err.... the Miami Heat.

I was rooting against the Heat in this series, partly because there are a couple folks on that team I DID NOT want to see win a ring (Payton, Walker, and to a lesser extent Jason Williams), but mostly because I didnt want to hear all of the "Shaq did it without Kobe!" talk that would follow. Let's try to remember that Shaq didnt win this by himself. He pretty much had Kobe-EAST right there with him in Dwyane Wade (And Wade did most of the work). If the Lakers got rid of Shaq and picked up Hakeem or Kareem (in their prime, of course) to replace him, then went on to win the title, any ensuing "Kobe did it without Shaq" talk would be just as silly.

All that being said, I am especially happy for Alonzo Mourning, D. Wade, and the rest of the Miami Heat (not named Williams, Payton, or Walker) and all of their fans.

ALSO, Phil Jackson is going to be on The Dan Patrick Show on ESPN Radio today (most likely during the last hour), but the show is going to be pre-empted for baseball here in L.A. in about an hour. Could someone PLEASE listen in & post a recap of the interview? I cant get the internet stream to work on my POS work computer :(

From the Dan Patrick show:

Jackson says he's not put out by Shaq's comments at all.

He says Shaq will always say he's currently with the best players, coach, etc.

He also still thinks letting Shaq go was the best move for the Lakers.

Phil was not taking any of Dan's bait.

They have now moved on to generic league stuff.

Pretty boring, actually.

See, I would think you would add Riley to that list. For me, as someone who grew up with the Riley Lakers, it brought back some fond memories rooting for a Riley team again - especially a team with some former Lakers on it. Okay, maybe just Shaq, but still...

I understand your opinion regarding Payton, but I'm not going to get too worked up about Willaims and Walker.

Maybe, but I still havent gotten over what happened to Van Gundy. Yeah, I know. Riley stepped in & took them to the championship, but I dont think the ends justified the means here. VG was a good guy and a good coach and I hated seeing him go out like that.
