The past 2-3 days I've seen something odd when starting my PC. The first screen that comes up with the BIOS info says this at the bottom...

"IDE Channel 2 no 80 conductor cable installed

CPU is unworkable or has been changed. Please recheck - CPU Soft Menu.

Press F1 to continue, DEL to enter setup"

I press F1, the computer continues startup as usual and functions normally. Any ideas on what exactly those message are telling me? I haven't changed/adjusted anything inside the case in about 2 years.

Well, I'm no expert on hardware, but I did a Google search.
At http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/374528-solved-error-primary-ide-channel.html , they first recommend replacing the primary IDE cable with a new 80 pin cable.

There was also
http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=47242 , which says that either a cable needs to be replaced, or the CMOS battery could have stopped working.

At http://forums.pcworld.co.nz/archive/index.php/t-40186.html , someone had that problem, and they fixed it by (I think) buying a new cable.

At http://www.devhardware.com/forums/storage-devices-80/primary-ide-channel-no-80-conductor-cable-installed-29774.html , they seem to imply that it's most likely a lose cable.

So basically, every source agrees that replacing the cable is probably the most likely option.

Have you changed any hardware recently?
As Mr Boffo says it could be loose IDE cable or it may have failed.
Some BIOS will have a section where you can clear warnings, hit DEL to enter setup and see if you can find it. Don't worry, you can always exit without saving if you're not sure.
They usually have a setting to restore Factory Defaults as well. Try that.

Vibrations happen - check your cables, although I would also check time and date and see if your CMOS battery is OK as well.

We'll be back right after order has been restored here in the Omni Center.

Thanks for the replies. The battery is okay as far as I can tell, no issues with the clock. I'll open up the case tomorrow and look for anything that's loose, then go from there.

I'm finally getting off my rump and working to convert several existing websites to true mobile version. The catch is that these sites have well over 1,000 pages each. Has anybody had any experience with a similar project?
