R.I.P., big guy.
funny, I was just thinking about him the other day too and reminiscing on the Oddities. I was still new to the net and wrestling rumors and for some reason couldn't believe that the man I hated growing up for squishing Damian and crushing Hogan's chest was the lovable Golga.
I remember seeing him come out of the crowd for the push-up contest between the Warrior and Dino Bravo. I had no idea this guy was a wrestler and when he attacked Warrior I was shocked. He just looked like some hillbilly slob...I had no idea he was actually a wrestler. He was very memorable and always seemed like a decent and dedicated guy off the camera. Hell, he even redid his tattoo to go along with a gimmick. That's impressive.
This is very sad. From everything I have heard and read from Tenta and about Tenta, he seemed like a genuinley nice guy.
Last I had heard, he was doing very well, and I thought he had this cancer all but beaten. But that's the sad thing about that disease. You just never know.
I had kept up with his battle on the wrestle crap forum and I'm truly heartbroke. But I do know that he was a man of God and is much better off now. RIP big guy. Go find Damien in animal heaven and squash him again.
The one man weapon of mass destruction that all the ladies call the master of seduction, MARVELOUS MATT MERCER!!! Later and God bless Marvelous Matt Mercer www.MATTMERCER.tk
I always liked Tenta. I actually felt a little sad to hear he's gone. True story: I once used "John Tenta" as a pseudonym. Like, in real life, not on the Internet. The details would bore you and embarrass me, so I won't offer them.
"I'm not a shark -- I'm not a fish. I'm not an avalanche. I'm a man. John Tenta." Damn right.

Yep. One of the most memorable moments of my markdom. The impressive thing about it was how when Dino made the challenge, all the fans started pointing to Tenta and yelling for him to be the one to sit on Warrior's back. He looked genuinely shocked and embarrased, like "Who me? I'm just a humble fat dude" and then BOOOM. It was shocking. I've always wondered if the WWF just had confidence the fans would pick Tenta, or if that section was paid/tipped off.
R.I.P., big man.

I was just thinking about that this morning. If anything, they probably only needed one plant to point at him and yell "LOOKIT THIS BIG OL' DUDE, PICK HIM!", then get a shot of the rest of his section chiming in.
I remember watching that and thinking "Holy crap that dude is huge, they just HAVE to pick him!" And when they did, I was all ready to see Dino get his. Awesome stuff.
He was on the Wrestlecrap message board and he wrote the forword in the wrestlecrap book. He was always updating on his condition and talking about his son getting autographs from guys he knew. He said one of his career highlights was being in 1990 Earthquake vs Hogan match. Gawd, he was a good loveable bigman eventhough most of his career he was the heel. He will be missed.
RIP John Tenta.
If you can't beat'em whack'em with a chair! Don't cross Mr. Cheese!
I was watching when he took out the Ultimate Warrior, it was a very convincing, classic pro-wrestling segment, probobly one of the top 10 or 20 mark out moments of my childhood.
Cult figure online for being able to make fun of the stupid things he did (for a lot of money).

Thanks. I haven't seen that since it happened years ago. I'd like to see the straight clip without all the editing, titles, music etc. They missed Earthquake in the crowd, with the "Who me?" look. This was a great way to debut a wrestler-- for the reasons posted by others above. This big old slob from the audience surprised everyone. I love it. The way Quake cowers from the Warrior at first. The Warrior's "Fear not, big man I'm here to destroy Dino Bravo" speech. Good stuff.
"Bring us an Awesome Blossom. Extra Awesome" -"The Office"'s Michael Scott, ordering at Chili's.
Notice how Earthquake conveniently had an aisle seat when they picked him. Great commentary by Jesse and Vince. Now both Dino Bravo and Earthquake are gone.

That was awesome. Jesse: "Oh, he's just a big ol' mountain boy, Vince."

Scott Steiner will be nowhere near a WWF ring until he passes a physical given by one of the WWF doctors. According to JR a couple of months ago, Steiner still had not done that.
