This went under my radar until I caught up with the podcast today. May 31, 2006 marked 1,000 shows for Pardon The Interruption, which Tony and Mike even admit that they didn't anticipate it.

Good job, guys! It's been a fun ride, thus far, and it's only been getting better. Although I wish Tony would bring back some of his more outrageous outfits.

If you haven't seen it, download the audio podcast. Worth the price of admission (a.k.a. none) for the opening alone.

In 2007, SOLID SNAKE~! joins the cast!

There was something good in the opening? I missed it, then. Guess I'll have to download the podcast just to hear it.

PTI is really one of the few reasons to watch ESPN these days. It's a great concept, and TK and Wilbon pull it off to perfection. It seems like every sportswriter/sports radio/tv host is trying to be as outrageous as possible in their opinions about sports, but as ridiculous as those two get sometimes (in a good way), they're very refreshing in that respect.

I'm excited to see how TK does on MNF this fall, and hopefully we get another five years of PTI.

Agreed on the point about sportswriters on TV. The thing is, when TK and Wilbon do the exaggeration and shouting, it's all done light-heartedly and you can tell they're having fun with it. Most other guys who do that come off as jackasses.

I have a feeling Kornheiser's going to do well on MNF despite the presence of Theismann. Hopefully the presence of Mr. Tony will make up for that lapse in judgment.

I like PTI, but this is the exact reason why "The Sportswriters On TV" will always be the gold standard for the genre. Because it wasn't guys trying to outyell one another because the camera was on. It just felt a late-night bull session with the camera rolling.

I give PTI a pass for being part of the "LOUD NOISES!" school of roundtable discussion because of how goofy and funny the show is most of the time. But most of their contemporaries take themselves far too seriously and just seem more concerned with playing the cool heel than playing the buffoon.

George Clooney, you been reading about all that? You been seeing that?

although I love the show...

1) too many athletes/coaches of late on 5 good minutes

2) abandonment of old bits, like Fish Fry and Good Cop, Bad Cop

Mark, I agree. The thing that I always like most about Satchmo, and to a lesser extent Mike was that they kept sports in perspective. Mr.Tony understands the concept of sports within life, not as the reason for living.
