I thought it might be fun to talk about Impact the same week it airs!

AMW vs. Naturals was fair. Naturals have new ring gear -- full length tights -- I think it's pretty good. It's certainly less aggressively pink. I still think the Naturals are better as weaselly heels. There was a little friction between the Nats and Christopher Daniels -- if this leads to a 3-team match later I'd appreciate it.

Shane Douglas sure likes stroking that goatee.

Jay Lethal vs. Alex Shelley was...also fair. I really like the little things that Shelley does -- like where he hooked Lethal's arm with one foot and kicked it with the other. Tiny little things that have no bearing on the outcome, but make the match seem a lot fresher.

The Kevin Nash angle seems to be going well, surprisingly. When Chris Sabin hit the ring, Kevin Nash bailed out immediately, moving faster than I've seen him move since he came back. My worry now is that he'll get injured (or "injured") before the angle has a chance to play out, rather than that he'll crush everyone and laugh laugh laugh. I'm actually looking forward to Sabin/Nash at Slammiversary.

Quick note about referee "Slick" Johnson -- I saw it suggested on 411 that he may be wearing the shorts as an angle -- he's "in" with the incoming authority figure, so he's "flaunting" it by dressing "casual." I hope it's true and I hope it leads to a Johnson/Zbyszko match at Victory Road.

I like the Samoa Joe promo where Joe said that maybe Steiner's too old to take him and they show a shot of Steiner looking contemplative. Moody!

I kind of like the LAX angle, too. I don't know where it's going (and maybe TNA doesn't, either) but LAX needed a restart after that awful Bullet Bob stuff, and...I dunno. I guess I'm just happy that they're staying on TV. I can't think of somewhere for it to go that doesn't make me squinch up my face and go "ergh," though.

Raven looks like shit. My wife pointed out that when he wears a shirt and a skirt that are the same color, "he looks like he's wearing a muumuu."

The brawl through the concessions area was fun enough. Once they got in the ring, though -- boy. Um.

So I was wrong in that other thread about where the KotM qualifier matches were going (I thought it'd be JJ vs. Steiner and Raven vs. Sting so as not to throw away PPV-worthy matchups) but I'm glad that this wasn't a PPV match, cuz damn.

Sting vs. Steiner on free TV (next week) surprises me, but I'm still going to assume that it'll be a short schmozzy screwjob of some sort that doesn't "spoil" the matchup for PPV. Or they've got Sting and/or Steiner booked far enough in advance that they won't be getting around to doing this on PPV, so why not try and pop a rating.

Anyway. I enjoyed the show, although it still feels like treading water -- it never feels "can't miss" or anything (although I'm looking forward to next week). I know Mr. Tracker has said that he'll stop watching once ECW starts -- I'll watch both (quitting RAW has freed up some time!), but it'll be interesting to see if ECW affects the Impact rating at all.

(CRZ -- any chance of adding "TNA" and "ECW" to the spellcheck? Awesome!)

EDIT -- I just wanted to add that I -- again, surprisingly -- really like the way they've been using Steiner since his return.

I thought Joe's interview was awesome. If there is one thing TNA is doing perfectly, it's their booking of Samoa Joe.

Joe isn't anyone's friend, he's not going to help out Sting who came in and stole the spotlight of the guy that was kicking ass and rising in the ranks in Joe. I'd say that promo officially cements Joe as a tweener.

I think the Nash/X Division angle isn't looking so bad now. Shelley looks like he is getting a good rub by doing working and doing promos with Kevin Nash. And hopefully the match with Sabin on PPV won't be too ridiculous.

I think the show had great pacing and flow this week. One of the better Impact episodes IMHO.

I was pleasantly surprised to find myself enjoying this too...it seems like they are getting a little better...although if they go too far with the WCW-revisited stuff....

Pimp daddy Borash has to go...I can't bring myself to listen to him.

And as for Raven...I didn't recognize him. For a minute or two I thought maybe Jeff Hardy had finally eaten a sandwich or two.

Why would ECW affect the Impact ratings? I thought they aired on different nights?

Right -- what I meant was -- for instance, Matt Tracker said in a couple of other threads that oncce ECW starts, he's going to stop watching Impact just because there's only so many hours a week that you can spend watching wrestling. He can't be the only one, right?

So I was just idly wondering if we'd get any indication of how much crossover there is, or how much wrestling a week is enough or too much, or, you know, anything like that.

I definitely have limited how much wrestling I watch, mainly because A) it's become so poor and B) I have MLB Radio so I listen to Mets games most nights. However I plan on cotninuing to watch TNA and also check out ECW, if anything gets the boot it's actually going to be Raw. That's not to say that Raw isn't as good as TNA or ECW but it's just kind of stale to me.

I am sure they will do some sort of swerve (Nash sends in Shelly to do the fighting?) but Sabin vs Nash comes awfully quick. If Sabin beats him now it would be like "so? he only beat up 3 guys prior to that.."

*sigh* Why bother?

Possibly the best Team 3D promo they've done since leaving ECW. Unfortunately, they can't say "ECW" when the feud now orbits the reputation of ECW. But the tension between the brothers, good natured though it may be, made for more humor and interest than anything they've done in a long time.

Speaking of ECW and leaving there and now being in TNA, I'm throwing my mind back to Raven's career. Has he ever won a feud? Now, yes, Tommy Dreamer never beat Raven, except that very last match when Raven jumped to WCW. I'd argue that means Tommy won the feud. Since then, has Raven ever come out on top against someone in a angle not jimmied up to fill a PPV? Saturn beat him to disband the Flock. Goldberg took the US belt the day after Raven won it from DDP (maybe that should count). Zybysko beat him just before Raven's return.

Anyway, my notion of Raven is that he's trying the Mick Foley approach to rasslin: be interesting, tease a win, and count the lights. Is this a fair assessment?

Meanwhile, JJ worked a Raven match and did pretty well, I thought. Still wouldn't pay to watch him in a main event, however.

I liked this episode a lot.

I like the way Stiener is being used. It looks like he's actually going to be used to put some young guys over. I can also tolerate hims as the psycho bodyguard.

So... Kevin Nash is basically playing Diesel to Alex Shelly's Shawn Michaels? Is anybody else getting the Shawn Michaels with Diesel bodyguard vibe here?

Joe's promo actually made me care about him a little bit.

I really liked Team 3D's promo.

I'm still trying to figure out what they're doing with LAX. Is it going to become a wrestling angle or do they think it'll draw in more Latino viewers? Get major news coverage?

Why is Christian not wrestling on the show? Is he still shooting that movie?

It looks like Raven has gained a lot of bad weight. It does look like my Dream Team of Raven and Crow Sting is going to come true though. :)

I have to agree with the good use of both Scott Steiner and Kevin Nash. Steiner actually looked pretty good against Joe in the tag match at the last ppv, it was nice to see someone toss Joe around for once. But we'll see how he fairs at a one on one match next week against Sting and against Joe at the ppv.

I like what they're doing with Nash too but I'd say that Nash's role is more like the teacher/mentor role he played in WCW with Natural Born Thrillers more than a buddy role like in WWF with HBK. It does seem soon for the Nash/Sabin match though so I'm wondering what they are going to do. Shelley interferes and they have a tag match? Or maybe Sabin isn't the one to beat Nash. Maybe Nash turns on Shelley and Shelley beats him? Maybe they use Nash as another way to put over Joe?

I think Christian's booking as champion has been shit, at best. He needs a fast heel turn to the smarmy, dick-ish Christian that we call love & know ...

BUT, it appears that role is currently being filled by Alex Shelley ...

I see this inevitably happening with me as well. I currently DVR Raw, SmackDown!, and Impact. That's 5 hours of wrestling per week, if you include the commercials. Now, with ECW, that's adding another hour on. I'll start by trying to watch them all, but already I've been feeling like I've been forcing myself to watch Impact just to keep up with TNA. It's not that the wrestling is bad, it's that the stories don't compel me to watch to "find out what happens." So, unless ECW really sucks, I can see TNA getting the shaft.

Of course, in reality, I'll probably just end up trying to fit in 6 hours of wrestling per week, and getting no sleep anymore. :)

I'm not quite as concerned about Ric's physical health as you are, Kamala... don't get me wrong, I don't want to see him get hurt, but I'm not worried in a Kurt Angle-esque “Oh, my God, this man's one bad bump away from paralysis” way.
