According to Dave Scherer from PWI, WWE will be rasing PPV's to $40 starting with ECW's ONS. Am I the only one who is baffled by this? If anything, the brand specific PPV's needs to be CHEAPER, not more expensive!
What are they now, anyway? I usually go to Baker Street to see the ones I wanna see, and have only actually ordered one PPV in my entire life (WrestleMania XX).
I agree with the premise of what you're saying, though-- they're gonna add ECW-brand pay-per-views and then raise the prices of all their PPVs? Shenanigans!

They aren't even worth $35 dollars usually. So no, they aren't worth $40. For $40 I can buy right now, FOUR ROH shows that are fantastic. I can probably get a couple good puro DVD's, or even the first US NOAH DVD for less.
WWE PPV's basically haven't been worth their cost in years.
Yeah, I'm not payin 2 Jacksons for a PPV, it's hard enough to justify looking at 35 bucks on my DirecTV bill. Well, I'll probably only make an exception for Rumble, Mania, and Summerslam, and hold a possibility of Survivor Series, but usually, the SS card is underwhelming, and I never get it anyways. I had thought about ONS, but I dunno, I dont think it will be as good as last years, last years had a more special feel to it, maybe because it was pure nostalgia, not a relaunch.
$40 it too expensive. Of course I haven't paid for a PPV in years. My stepdad is a huge WWE fan so I get to see about half of them for free. Oddly he is a far bigger SD fan so that is how I saw the last PPV (one week later and I can't remember it's name).
Marge I am just trying to get into heaven not run for Jesus.
I don't know if this kind of stat is readily available, but I'd be interested in seeing WHO is purchasing these PPVs. At even $35 a pop, I can't imagine there are too many regular buyers who aren't at least upper middle class. That is, unless they're splitting the cost of the PPV amongst several viewers. For that kind of money, you can order 10 on-demand movies or buy some quality wrestling DVDs.
I know that personally, I've only ordered 2 PPVs in my life. One of them my parents ordered for me, actually, to show at my wrestling themed birthday party. It was one of the single-digit Wrestlemanias (VII, maybe?). The other one was another Wrestlemania (whichever one had that LOVELY Undertaker-Boss Man HiaC match) that I somehow convinced a bunch of my non-wrestling watching friends to go in on together. It was funny because while everybody was gathered at this one house, talking it up, eating and drinking, and generally having a good time, I was about the only one paying attention to the $50 PPV playing on the big screen.
I'd rather see PPVs at the local cinemas. It's better when there's a crowd. Including transit, food, drinks, and the show, I end up paying about $40 regardless, but end up with a better experience than if I bought the show at home.
If anything, to buy any PPV show, I'd have to possess the local cableco's digital cable box. No thanks.
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of moments that take our breath away.
I called my Dad up after I read one on the online reports of PPV's jumping up to 39.95 from the 34.95 mark. He said they should be goind down and not up. I agree with them going down because they aren't putting out quality wrestling right now. You know what I mean with that they've got the characters and not as many great workers to perform for the product they produce.
I've been a wrestling fan for almost 17 years and I remember when I used to buy the Colossium Videos for 39.95 when they came out 2 months after the PPV's in the earily/mid 90's.
This means I'm probably not going to buy WWE PPV for quite a while as I'd rahter drive to a local place showing and pay for the food than the PPV. Don't think thats a good thing in there case.
I don't care how much they are, since I haven't bought one since WM20 and don't plan to from here on out unless they take a drastic upward turn in quality.
I can't justify paying 40 bucks for an event that might be good, when I can buy the same event a little over a month later (after I know it was good) for less than half the price, and have it come with extras.
Originally posted by Mr Heel III used to buy around a half dozen PPV's per year. So far this year...one. "Royal Rumble".
I've started taking a "wait and see if it's worth the bother, then buy the DVD for half the price" approach.
Me?
2006 Saw at theatre: Royal Rumble Bought at home: WrestleMania Bought DVD after the fact: New Year's Revolution
2005 Saw at theatre: Royal Rumble, WrestleMania 21, Vengeance, SummerSlam Bought DVD after the fact: New Year's Revolution, Judgment Day, ECW One Night Stand
I always watch the Royal Rumble & WrestleMania. My best friend was super-hyped about last year's HBK/Angle & HBK/Hogan matches, so we headed out to the theatre for those. It also helps that both those cards were stacked. Judgment Day, One Night Stand & NYR had good reviews from people, so I grabbed the DVDs when they came out.
$40 PPVs just mean that I'll head to the theatre more if it's a show I want to see.
$5 is 5 bucks. Not a huge deal for me. Won't make or break any purchase for me. Compared to most sports events it's still a bargain for the good PPVs. Over the last year I think the PPV's quality have improved so hopefully that trend continues. They will have pressure to make these events must-see PPVs again.

That's some interesting logic you have there, but $5 is not just $5 when we're talking about adding onto an already steep price. More importantly, though, while $40 may be a bargain for most sporting events IN PERSON, we're talking about watching something on TV. When's the last time you paid $40 to watch a sporting event on TV?
I saw Backlash at the theater. I had a great time and overall enjoyed the show. I got online and it was pretty much panned by everybody. So seeing it around a bunch of other crazy and somewhat annoying wrestling fans did seem to sway my opinion of the show. Seems like this is the way to go for all future PPVs.
I can pay $7 to see the PPV and maybe another $10 for refreshments. Then, if it's good, buy the DVD for $20 when it comes out a month later. $40 a pop is ridiculous.
They do put them out on dvd rather quickly now. Backlash is out now. Plus, they are now putting them on On Demand within 1-2 months as well (if you have that).
Starts out with a video package with a lot of brawling and some evident backstabbing, etc. Jay Lethal is a good guy here, unlike his role in the OTHER AWA I saw him in last night. Match 1:
