So I'm watching tonight's LOST season finale. At around the 1.5 hour mark (out of a 2-hour-long episode), my cable cuts out. Shock. Horror. Disgust. Rage. This is what I am feeling right now. Could Charter Communications have POSSIBLY picked a worse time in my life to say "no thank you" to delivering the digital cable service I pay so dearly for? Funny enough, my cable Internet from Charter is still working. Thank goodness for small miracles, I suppose.

Anyway, what's your worst lost (no pun intended) cable experience?

- StingArmy

P.S. - I may not even get to read the responses to this thread because I very well may off myself for missing the rest of LOST.

I remember my 10th birthday party, my dad had ordered Wrestlemania X for me and all my friends and we were having a blast watching it. When it finally came down to the last match, Bret vs Yoko, the PPV feed from our cable company started to go. We all totally freaked out and it was basically the end of our 10 yr old worlds. Luckily, it came back with about 30 seconds left in the match, so we got to see the pinfall and the victory celebration. After my pops complained the next day the cable company agreed to send us a free copy of the VHS when it came out, which I still have to this day, right in my entertainment center about 10 feet away.

HBK: You’re flat broke aren’t you?
MJ: Please let me wrestle on RAW!
HBK: Fine, but I ain’t wearin’ no fruity tassels.
MJ: Are these your mirror pants?
HBK: Give me those!

Went out just before a Steeler play-off game was about to come on. I was really MFing my cable company when the cable came back on about 3 minutes after the game had ended.

When I managed a cable company customer service department around ten years ago, we had a New Year's Eve where Dick Clark was doing the count down...5...4...3...2...1...and BOOM! There goes the cable.

Cause: Some idiot shot his gun into the air at the stroke of midnight and hit a power box on a pole that our main trunk line from our headend was attached to. The power box blew up and the pole caught fire.

He went to jail.

You should have heard the screaming customers.

When cable went out during football games, our technicians would get people driving by the poles shouting death threats at them while they're up there trying to trace the problem. When it went out during certain programming on QVC, old ladies would call us literally in tears because "Joan Rivers is only on so often, you know."

And don't EVEN get me started on when the Spice channel would somehow end up unscrambling for all to see...

This isn't a cable outage, but we didn't have any electricity the night of "U.S.A. 4, U.S.S.R. 3".

Perfect timing on this since last night I'm watching the Sox vs. A's game, 8th inning, Sox clinging to a 3-2 lead when *click* off goes the box. Call Comcast and get told "your DVR box is downloading new software, it should be back running in about a half hour." AAAARGGHHH!!!!! Thank goodness for MLB Gameday Audio. (and no, I don't own a radio.)

Worst ever though was going out right before some WCW PPV in the 90's. House full of people, pizza, beer, everything ready for a party when everything went black. Took almost an hour to get things working again.

When I was at USF, the women's basketball team had a big conference game against TCU one year (I, along with many of my friends, am a women's college basketball fan [I hate the WNBA though]; in addition, the WBB team is pretty much the most high-profile team to have any measure of success until the football team went to its first bowl game this year). We're watching the game on a local Tampa station tta airs all their road games. With two seconds left in OT, down 2, forward Jessica Dickson heaves up a three from mid-court, the buzzer sounds and...nothing. We were PISSED. Twenty seconds later, the feed is back and we see the players celebrating on the court.

5 minutes before Wrestlemania 17 started the cable went crazy. There was picture but no sound, then sound but no picture, then static and then just nothing. Got it back eventually but missed the first 2 or 3 matches, so I had to watch the replay that started right afterwards at midnight to catch those. That didn't help when I had to get up early for work 5 hours later.

A couple of years ago, a crazy wind storm caused a tree to fall...which knocked out the local cable lines in my area. It took them damn near six hours to fix the outage and get service back up and running. Now, we had VOiP phone service, so we were pretty much cut off from the outside world. In that situation, anytime there was an outage, it would be inopportune.

Now, that's not cable TV, but it's cable something...so I guess that has to count for something.

June '01, right at the beginning of the Benoit/Angle cage match. Violent thunderstorm comes through, lightning hits the telephone pole outside my house, setting it on fire. My car is parked underneath, so I have move it in a heavy downpour with cinders coming down. As I move the car, the fire gets to the wire, putting itself out and knocking out the power for 8 hours. Since the power went out, that also counts as cable going off.
This doesn't count the times when the local cable company decides in the middle of an inning of a Red Sox game to dump out of action and go into 2 minutes of commercials. Always nice when they do that.
And spf, you should at least have a cheap little radio around, in case of public emergency or the power going out during a White Sox road game. I'm guessing the latter would be a more vital reason to have one.

Game 4 of the 2004 World Series* with my Red Sox on the verge of winning it all. We didn't lose cable, but they decided to run a "test of the emergency broadcast system" at that time. Couldn't it have waited? It seemed like forever, but came back on during a commercial break so I couldn't tell if the game ended, there was a pitching change or what was going on.

*could have been ALCS Game 7, but it was probably the WS. Either way, that was the worst timing ever for an EBS test.

So here's my question: In a million years, did you ever think this would happen? One decade ago, I didn't even have an e-mail address or know what the Internet was ... now I can watch Piper slam a coconut against Snuka's head whenever I want? What will the world be like 10 years from now? Is it possible to procrastinate for 24 hours a day? Are we headed that way? -Bill Simmons on YouTube.

I always figure if there's a public emergency one of the following will happen:
-I will stay in my apartment with the doors locked ready to kill anything that enters until things return to normal.
-I will get a phone call saying "get the hell out of there"
-If the undead are walking I'll hear the collective moaning of "brains" from the street and act accordingly.

Not really going out, but for almost the entire Memorial Day weekend, all you could watch on ESPN2 was a frozen picture of IndyCar tests, and OLN became the WB (causing me to miss the Oilers clinch.)

It's small town cable, and by God, they had to have their 3 day weekend...ESPN2 froze sometime around 3 on Friday, OLN was down something like an hour later, and neither was fixed until Tuesday.

For reasons of creative incompetence, this space will be left blank. Advertising opportunities are avaliable though!!! Contact (Number removed due to pending litigation) for details!

I have no idea why, but something similar to the Magically Disappearing OLN has been going on with one of the TV's here. The one that's not hooked up to digital cable (as in, the old-school box) can't get the local Fox affiliate. It's the TV Guide channel. I don't think that would happen without the box, but no one's ever thought of doing that or are willing to try.

At the end of WrestleMania 22. I had 10 guests and we enjoyed the show then we lost the last 5 minutes of the main event. As it turns out, they gave us a full refund so we got most of WM22 for free so it wasn't that bad after all.

One hour before Wrestlemania 4, a squirrel got into a transformer outside my house and OBLITERATED both himself and my feed. I tell you, the repair guys found a big splatter of red goo and a tail. Had I caught the squirrel, I would have done worse to him.
Honorable mention goes to the time I had no sound during Survivor Series. Undertaker walked out for the first time and I was screaming at the TV. You can't imagine how maddening a debut is when there's no commentary to pump it up.

My main problem with Satellite is that all the channels run on eastern time, and I'm out here on the West Coast. This being the age of DVR's and all it's not a huge problem, but it's nice to watch the shows at their normal time.

Any freaking time is when it's Monday and wrestling, Monday Night Raw, comes on at 9pm. That's the only time when I could so go burn a cable company down. Right now I don't have anything else I really couldn't live without missing.

Previously it has been Las Vegas. Once they bring down the table minimums ($100 a hand at the public tables, REALLY? For blackjack!?), it will be Charlestown, WV only because it will be a shorter drive there than Atlantic City, NJ.
