Well yeah, that Chris Benoit title reign really screwed up everything.

I still think Kenny is destined for great things.

I'd say WWE agrees with you, since he's headlined in singles matches in consecutive weeks against Cena and Shawn.

I want SEE NO EVIL to do well.

Poor Kane, it's his big chance to break out into the mainstream, and the WWE forces him to go to the premiere of his big movie dressed like an asshole. Seriously, What was Vince thinking. This is just horrible to do that to a guy who's been around for so long. Shit, they don't make the Undertaker go around in his coat and hat everywhere, do they?

I'm hoping this movie does well enough to get Kane more roles so he can earn some money to buy some new clothes.

Because she specifically said "When I eat an apple?" right before that, thus killing the joke completely.

    That too.

The sad thing is, someone was paid at least $100 to actually write that joke on paper.

Sadder still, there were probably several drafts of that scene.

Show Kane some love, dude hasn't won a big match in 7 years and still gets his own movie. That's how you get over, yo.

Wanting the movie to fail has nothing to do with wanting Kane to fail. It's more about not wanting to encourage Vince McMahon any further. I would rather him concentrate on fixing his very flawed wrestling organization, which is the flagship of his company and is falling off currently.

I'm just not interested in seeing these other projects pushed constantly on the wrestling show. I didn't want to see it when he pushed his bodybuilding federation (which he used in stupid angles like tug of war contests on the wrestling shows). I didn't want to see it when he pushed his XFL football league. I don't want to see the WWE movies consistently pushed on the wrestling show. He doesn't just stop with ads and maybe a few vignettes. He turns these things into stupid angles like us being able to hear the voices in Kane's head and the Zeus main event push years ago. I don't care to see a wrestler get pushed because of a movie (like Zeus) rather than getting it done in the ring or being entertaining on the wrestling show.

If the movie is a success, then great for Kane. I'll be happy for him.

Heh, everybody's so sensitive about Benoit. I don't think his title reign screwed anything up, but it didn't help anything either. Benoit, of course, has his place in wrestling, but I never thought "world champion" was it, and his run didn't convince me otherwise. Truth is as I sit here right now, I can't remember a single one of his championship feuds or who he eventually dropped the belt to (the answer to both questions is probably Triple H, but that's nothing more than an educated guess). The champ really has to be better on the mic and have a more histrionic wrestling style that connects better with American fans. Most importantly, a babyface champ has to be someone who teenage boys might consider cool -- "want to be him" cool. Nobody really wants to be Benoit.

I meant more really great things, like a run with the WWE title or at least a breakaway solo push. Being the guy who dresses like the four other guys isn't really great things. I'm talking about the kind of big that by definition you can't get in your first three months with the company. It'll take a couple of years for that.

Y'know...I could enjoy the Foley heel turn SOOOOO much more if they'd left Edge and that c*m belching road ho out of the picture. But no--gotta give him not just one, but TWO albatross' around his neck. Jeebus.

That being said, how many of you were sitting there mouthing along with Funk when he started the whole, "your wife is a whore" spiel? (OK, maybe I was doing it because my hardback copy of "Have A Nice Day" was just a couple of feet away from where I was sitting.)

Vince cradling Shane as the show went off? Just call that one last round of eyeball cardio for the day. "Roll those eyes, and one, and two."

Never argue religion, politics, wrestling or the merits of individual wrestlers--no one else will recognize you for the expert you obviously are and resent your insistence that you're right and they all have s**t for brains.

Versus Triple H and Shawn Michaels, and Randy Orton.

And I don't even like Benoit.

I just thought it was an odd conjecture to make. Like, all the bad decisions they make each year and you'd change something that was innocuous at worst and came during the last peak of great TV. Raw for the first half of 2004 was one of the highest quality runs they've had since the brand x-tension, so it holds a special place in my heart and I will rush to sing its praises.

I don't think his title reign screwed anything up, but it didn't help anything either.

Sure, but there are only about three or four people in the last four years whose reigns have made a genuine difference (Cena, Guerrero briefly, Edge briefly, and Batista when programmed with HHH). Everyone else was either status quo or worse (JBLow-the-median).

As far as what it helped, it should have created a champion who had such a strong reign that when Randy Orton beat him for the belt, Orton was that much stronger for winning the title from someone who'd had so much success as opposed to just a transitional guy to move the belt to him. And so he did, but then they screwed that up the very next day.

I can't remember a single one of his championship feuds

He only had three, but one was the best program all year.

And truisms really ought to be true. If Benoit didn't connect with American fans, his title matches wouldn't have had such great heat. Beating everyone with the crossface for months made him the real deal in their eyes for a time -- by the end of his reign, fans would chant "We Want Benoit" during tag matches when he was on the apron. Losing the belt and going back to the midcard killed his aura because he wasn't special anymore, but he did stand out when he was the champion.

If you quit watching wrestling in 1997, don't worry, you haven't missed a beat. Jeff Jarrett is in the spotlight, alongside Nash, Scott Steiner, Sting, and Zbyzsko in Wc... I mean TNA.

Meanwhile, HBK and HHH are becoming sort of kindred spirits in their rebellion against McMahon, who is quite the evil, horny, power mad bastard.

Did I mention Mike Tenay and Jim Ross are calling their respective shows?

Oh, and if you were concerned, yes. Konnan is still up on his rap slang, quoting Master P.

I'd change lots of things, including, I suspect, most of what you'd consider the bad decisions. I just used the Benoit example because I was looking for an opinion I've had that was as far as I could get from Internet consensus.

He was definitely pretty over, I'll give you that. He just didn't get booked on Leno (uh, did he?), which is the ideal scenario. I would guess he didn't sell a tremendous amount of merchandise. Probably wasn't the talk of the schoolyards.

I'd say Big Kev's most successful title reign was more successful than Benoit's one title reign. It's just Nash at his most self-indulgent that nobody wants to see.

Yeah, but how many world champions DO tick all of those boxes? If you try and book towards that gold standard with every world title change you're only gonna see a new champ every three or four years. Benoit was a great choice for champion in 2004. He was a fresh main eventer, he was excellent in the ring, and the fans reacted to him. Considering the alternatives at that point I'd be hard-pressed to name somebody who a significantly stronger option.

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

The most humiliating portion of any wrestling program will always be the part that your wife walks in on you watching.

I understand what you mean. Every time the woman sits down beside me and I flip over to wrestling there is invariably a cheerleader/lingerie/catfight on as soon as I switch to the channel. There could be a five star match between Benoit and Kurt Angle on, but the second she sits down Torrie Wilson and Candice will come running down the aisle falling out of their dress. I can't win.

This also applies to your parents when you're younger. When I used to live at home, my dad or mom would always come in during the lingerie pillow fights, during which I would have to loudly berate them or pretend to be flipping through channels.

What's funny aboutt he whole wife thing is yearas ago when the WWE was at its best, I would argue with my wife and force her to sit and watch it and explain the nuances and the characters to her. I was that passionate about it and she even started to watch it for small stretches of time when jericho ro The Rock were on.

NOW, when she comes in while I am watching, she looks at me with pity. Even SHE knows the product is worse and she was a part time viewer. When the divas are on or some othe rform of crap, she says to me: "You have given up on so many network shows when they have gone bad, why do you still watch this garbage?". And the funny thing is, I don't even have an answer for her. The amount of "good TV' vs. "bad TV' on the WWE is miniscule. If this was any of the shows I love/loved (X-Files, CSI) I would hav stopped watching by now. But for some reason, there I sit, every Monday night, watching and hoping my wife does not come in the room while RAW is on. So sad.
