Courtesy of The Observer (http://www.wrestlingobserver.com/wo/news/headlines/default.asp?aID=16234):

For Velocity
Funaki pinned Sylvan
Matt Hardy pinned Simon Dean
Chris Benoit beat William Regal with the crossface in a very good match
Gunner Scott pinned Orlando Jordan in a match with several boring chants

SmackDown started with a JBL interview. He ran down Latinos and said after Judgment Day Rey & his family can work for him with Rey mowing the grass, his wife cooking his food & his children shining his shoes. He said if Rey didn't want to work for him then he could sell drugs or work at the donkey show in Tijuana.Rey attacked him and ran him off

Kurt Angle was shown arriving. He talked with Teddy Long in the back & Long made Henry vs. Angle for Judgment Day

Super Crazy beat Nunzio & Kid Kash to become number 1 contender to the cruiserweight title in a good match.

Gymini beat Tom Wellington & Joey Ryan

Angle was shown leaving the building

Booker T came out and said he didn't want to beat Angle by forfeit in KOR.He challenged Angle to came out but he never did since he'd already left and Booker & Sharmell celebrated.

Lashley pinned Finlay to go to the finals of KOR
This was a long match with Finlay mostly keeping Lashley on the mat with armbars and headlocks.Crowd started to get tired of it and were booing.Finish saw the ref distracted and Finlay used a chair but Lashley no sold it and hit the spear for the win.

MNM came out and bragged about laying out London & Kendrick last week.Jillian Hall came out and challenged Melina to a fight.London and Kendrick came through the crowd and it ended with all 3 members of MNM in their underwear.

Mark Henry pinned Paul Burchill in a match where Burchill got no offense.

Nunzio and Vito were talking in the back and when Vito left Orlando Jordan told Nunzio that when they were in England OJ went to a club and saw a guy dressed in drag that looked exactly like Vito.Nunzio told him to back off.

Great Khali squashed Rey Mysterio
They did a stare down and the size difference was amazing.JBL was on commentary and was attacked again by Rey before the match.Rey's only offensive move was a springboard dropkick which Khali no sold.He ended up pinning Rey with one foot on his chest.Basically Rey was made out to look like a midget jobber. The crowd wasn't nearly as upset at Rey's treatment as I would of thought but I saw a lot of little kids lose interest and not pay attention to the dark match three way.

After the match JBL got in Rey's face as he was down and commented that his family was watching from the front row and said that next week he wouldn't believe who he had to face.

In a dark match Rey retained over Henry & JBL.JBL's body was noticeably softer than just last week.Rey hit the 619 on JBL and pinned him with a frog splash and celebrated a long time to end the show.

Awesome job in booking your Champion, WWE! All you have to do now is have him get squashed by a midget wrestler, and the cycle will be complete.

Did I miss the segment where JBL was given booking control over Rey Mysterio by Teddy Long?

Why is Burchill jobbing out all of a sudden? I liked him better before the pirate schtick, so it doesn't really bother me much, but it just seems kinda odd after his little winning streak.

Rey - worst booked champ since Chris Jericho. Way to go, WWE.

You've gotta be kidding me ... guess they've been watching the Sopranos ... even the character's name (Vito) is the same.

Man, they'd better not put JBL over Rey at Judgment, or Rey is DEAD as a credible upper-card wrestler.

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

Welp, that's the plan. Meltzer said on WOL that JBL's already been told he's winning the title at the PPV.

Broader question, why do two stiffs like Mark Henry and The Great Khali get such big (and in Henry's case continuous) pushes when the brand is so focused on workrate? I mean, it's one thing pushing goofs like Heidenreich and nostalgia acts like Road Warrior Animal, but Henry and Khali are on a completely different level of awful.

The whole thing with Rey just sickens me, because it's absolutely retarded booking. Just...retarded. There's no other word for it. Putting him in the ring with a guy that big in the first place is a bad idea. It's one thing to remind people he's a small guy fighting against the odds, but don't have him take on a freakishly tall guy that makes him look like a three-year-old.

As uncaptivating as Smackdown has been for awhile, this is the first time I've ever read spoilers and had such a bad reaction to it that I'll make it a point to remember to not so much as tune in during the show. Man, if they stick with the plan to replace Velocity tapings with ECW and it's booked right, it will absolutely MURDER any and all possible heat for Smackdown.

With all due respect, Henry IS doing a good job since his return. He's been booked as a monster, jobbed when needed and gotten over for the most part. I mean, homeboy has been dropping splashes like Snuka the last few months, albeit a 60 year old Snuka. At this point, I hope they do re-sign him. I'm not clamoring for main eventer Henry, but he could work as a Kane-level guy (flirts with main event level, but never wins a big match.)

Saying Rey is the worse booked champion since Jericho is an understatement. Rey is making Jericho's run look like the heyday of Hulk-A-Mania. At this point, being champion looks like the death of Rey's career. At least Jericho WON a match and got a true WM main event out of it. I mean, this is proof positive they didn't want Rey as their champion. It's amazing as tight-lipped and wishy-washy as they are about long-term plans, they decided some 3 weeks in he was going to drop it to JBL. I get Rey losing by chicanery to build to the match, but dude is jobbing clean to everyone. I really don't get it. It might make some sense if he's going to retain at the PPV, but that, says Meltzer, isn't the case. Very odd. I miss Randy Orton.

So JBL says Rey won't believe who he has to face next week, eh? Any predictions who Rey is jobbing to next?!?! Hey, isn't the next SD broadcoast on May 19th????

Let me get this straight:

  • Khali not only squashes the world champion, but gets to pin him with one foot, making Rey to look more like a schmuck;
  • Paul Burchill gets destroyed when he needs wins to gain favor;
  • Veteran workhorse Chris Benoit is on Velocity while the FBI gets a Smackdown appearance.

Considering the crack-induced booking here, I think the "Wellness Program" should extend to the front office.

I say it's the ol' "give the guy a push by having him lose" but that doesn't seem to be the case here and I doubt that type of bookings effectiveness. Rey is a face champion; heels should only be winning by cheating when they face him. There should be no heel squashes on Rey - period, I don't care about the size of Rey or his opponent.

Why do you miss Orton? I liked him about two (or three?) years ago when he was doing the injury updates but I haven't seen what I saw then in a long time.

Shouldn't he be back by now? I give it 6 months until he's the biggest cheeseball face this side of Randy Orton.

So....if Rey Mysterio HADN'T won the World title...he'd never be squashed again?

DAMN, I didn't even consider the May 19th angle until you mentioned it. I hope that's not it and it wouldn't make sense either....not that something like not making sense would stop these writers.

My first thought was a crazed and jealous Chavo Guerrero angry that Rey has won the Royal Rumble and World Title in honor of Eddie while Chavo failed in his I-C title match dedicated to Eddie. Chavo does play the jealous and crazed character well, as illustrated in his bloody beating of Eddie when he turned on him a couple years ago and his turn in WCW when he had his head shaved and was running around with the toy horse (Dammit, I can't remember the name of that damn toy horse he had).

Good call. I've seen people note that May 19 was a Friday, and I just read the SmackDown spoilers, but didn't put the two together. Now that you mention it, though, it definitely adds up.

Yes, it was Pepe! Thanks! I should have known it but I just couldn't remember. The name Paco was in my head, but it didn't sound quite right.

I think Pepe and Moppy both ended up in wood chippers. I seem to remember Raven being involved.
