I don't see any thread on this yet, and I know people will care:

http://www.homemediaretailing.com/index.cfm?sec_id=2&newsid=9067

Basically, according to this story: original theatrical versions of all three original Star Wars films are coming to DVD on Sept 12.

They'll be available individually in 2-disc sets containing both the theatrical cut and the new cut.

Great. So people like me who bought the boxed set two years ago will have TWO sets of the 2004 DVDs. Lovely.

How many Star Wars sets does this make this now? I mean, the one that came out last year with all three films plus a special features DVD was enough. This is just a way to make more money.

And yes, I realize that this is George Lucas we're talking about, but still.

Yes, but it's a cash grab that people have been begging for. So I doubt there's going to be much of an issue there.

You take the other set to half-price books and get some cash back. Or trade it into Gamestop or somewhere for credit.

Or you could donate it to charity.

Good thing I was smart enough not to buy into that special edition crap on DVD a while back. I knew my boycott would work out in the end.

It just pisses me off Lucas has to act like this angry creator and go through all this bullshit of, "I'm not going to spend my money on releasing the films when they sucked and were imperfect!"

Star Wars isn't just yours Lucas, and this finally proves it.

As someone who owns original Star Wars videos, I'm pleased to hear this news. I was very annoyed with the release of the so-called "Special edition" set a couple of years ago, with the changed ending. Lucas' explanation as to why Hayden Christensen was there just didn't cut it for me.

My copies of the originals (from CBS video) get a lot of use, so it'll be nice to get these ones. They're being released very close to my birthday too...interestingly eniough

Which theatrical release? Does this mean we won't have to suffer with George's obviously fake and totally masturbatory CGI critters infesting nearly every frame of "Star Wars", er, "Episode IV: A New Theatrical Intro?"

The "fix" of CGI Jabba making a face when Han stepped on his body was something only a nerd surrounded by sycophants could possibly think was cool. I can't believe Lucas had the gall to brag about that lame bastardization.

According to the article, they will be the ORIGINAL theatrical releases, when the movies first came out in theatres.

Don't even get me started on that subject.

That still disgusts me how were supposed to believe that a professional bounty hunter (Greedo) misses Han Solo from 3 feet away.

Even the term "original theatrical release" means nothing when George Lucas is involved. "Episode IV" was added to the "Star Wars" _during_ the original theatrical run, IIRC. I'm betting it will be on the DVD as well.

If George Lucas made "JAWS", he would have gone back and added "Episode IV" (Gotta make room for a prequel about Quint) and then CGId in a bunch of fake looking sharks.

Ah-HA! Actually when you mentioned it the first time, I downloaded it, and it's now on my primary playlist. When this subject came up I thought of the song, but couldn't remember who gave it to me or what the link was.

Great, great song.

Not to be a complete dork here, but Greedo was NOT a 'professional bounty hunter'.

According to the 'Tales From Mos Eisley' book (which was pretty good.), Greedo's very first job as a bounty Hunter was going after Han. If I remember the story correctly, he was doing it to get money for his family or something. Also, he was barely out of his teens, so him not doing the job the way it was supposed to be done... such as missing Han from three feet away, kinda made sense.

...but Han DID shoot first. I agree with that. Han wasn't all that great of a guy, you know.

If that was Greedo's first job, how did Han know him so well and know who he was? The movie implied Greedo was a professional bounty hunter regardless of what an expanded universe book written years after the movie says. And it's rediculous that ANYBODY would miss as badly as Greedo did when sitting directly across the table from someone and a blaster pointed right at their face.

Not, says the article, according to LucasFilm: "See the title crawl to Star Wars before it was known as Episode IV A New Hope."
