I 100% agree with you on this one, Spiff.

I think it should be kept in mind that the ECW crowds were almost 100% adult men, and the "E-C-Dub" chants that sometimes break out at WWE shows sound very similar in pitch to the "Cena Sucks" chants. What I'm getting at is that the fan's who think of Cena as a heel already are the same as the ECW fans, and the ones who still love him--women and little kids--were never going to be interested in ECW, anyway.

Also, keep in mind that the ECW audience doesn't like vanilla babyfaces--remember how they treated Dreamer at first? Cena as he is now would get a stronger heel reaction than officially-turned Cena (or Edge or HHH).

You may be right, but I hope not. If they don't do this, it will be the biggest puss-out ever. Not only should RVD throw down the belt, he should spit on it, like Foley did his WCW Tag title. (After all, if you copy one thing, it's stealing, if you copy two things at once, they're "influences"...)

This is going to be a dumb question but is there a stipulation that says RVD HAS to challenge for the RAW title? Couldn't he go after Smackdown's belt and face a number of other (better) possibilities? Rey vs RVD? Angle vs RVD? Benoit vs RVD? (Okay that last one was just me dreaming but you get my point.)

    2) "It won’t hurt Cena to drop the belt to a good worker like RVD." I've got no problems w/ RVD, but I don't know if I'd call him a "good worker".

    3) No way in hell RVD throws down the WWE Title. Even if it would be a good story to kickstart ECW, I can't see Vince allowing the WWE Title to be devalued like that.

    4) Flair should not be winning the title at this point.

    5) Edge w/ a long reign? I dunno if there's enough interest in the guy to sustain a long reign.

I agree with the first three, disagree with the last two. Flair winning the title would work like the gang's busters. People overthink it and freak about Flair winning that (or any match, sometimes) because he is so Old, but folks don't care, they just want to see this beloved guy win. If he won the title, I don't think anyone would stop going crazy and realize "eww, he's 56." They'll just go, "yay, I'm happy." And the TV ratings for whenever Flair is in a prominent role challening for the belt bear out the idea that there's a lot of money to be made with that story.

As for Edge, I think he's the all-around best main event act in the company right now when you combine freshness, work, promos, etc.

Yeah Justin, Flair is really over (permanently) but WWE would have to make him dominate for a couple of weeks before the old man would seem a credible champion.... Im thinking he does his typical Dirtiest player routine but busts out even more submissions and oldschool technical wrestling than usual... point is, he would have to be more of a threat.

Now, the subject of this thread... RVD.
I am a fan of RVD, and like many others; I think he has been pasted to the midcard for too long by the WWE. He is too over for the midcard.

As someone mentioned before, he might challange for the WWE title with the IC championship still in hand, and I think this would be a good idea because just seeing him with two belts (even for a short while) will give him a lot of credibility as a main eventer (I mean with the audience in general, because he already has all the credibility he can have with the hardcore ECW fans and yours truly).

And again- this is my bias as an RVD fan talking, but I want to see RVD hold the title for a significant amount of time, and not be a transitional champ like the Iron Shiek or Edge

Maybe once he finally loses the title, u can turn RVD into the cocky, laid back heel he can easily play...and by then Cena coulda turned heel and back.. ok, a lot of speculation for one post let me just submit this lol

The latest Torch purportedly purports that the new working idea is RVD vs. Mr. Anti-ECW JBL for the world title. Which would kind of indicates the direction for Rey/JBL at Judgment Day.

I have no problem whatsoever for that match-up. What of the US title though?

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

This idea really works for me, actually. This puts RVD is Smackdown's main event, where he has fresh matchups that I think would be intriguing (RVD-Rey, anyone?) or matchups that we've seen only a tease of (I remember RVD-Orton being loads of fun in the early stages of Randy's first big push).

I think the US Title was made for guys in Bobby Lashley's position. A Lashley-Finlay program over the US belt? Yes, please!

Interesting points brought up above. Maybe Cena's WWE title wouldn't be worth sacrificing for that angle, but what about the SMACKDOWN! World Title? WWE has never been shy about making the SD title appear as a second-tier one when convenient (like the last three WrestleManias, where RAW got the main event every time out).

RVD-JBL is probably the most likely scenario, and platform to kickstart ECW back if that's really the plan. I was kind of hoping Rey would last until Batista's return as champion, but at least here, there is direction.

When Edge cashed in the MITB to win his first title on a SD, the WWE announced it Wednesday morning. There's precedent. With Ziggler doing all he can on RAW, this improves his odds to take a world title. He should move to SmackDown immediately.
