I might as well see if anyone else is looking forward to the ROH show tonight, or if they are actually going. I know I'll be there in the CZW section of the bleachers, watching two promotions I like run an angle that has benefited both companies. Here is the lineup from http://rohwrestling.com/upcomingevents.asp?intCategoryID=2&intArticleID=102:

"ROH vs. CZW Six Man War- No Rules
Samoa Joe, BJ Whitmer, & Adam Pearce vs. Chris Hero, Necro Butcher, & Super Dragon

ROH World Title Match
Bryan Danielson defends against Colt Cabana

Tag Team Title Match
Austin Aries & Roderick Strong vs. Homicide & Ricky Reyes with Julius Smokes

Tag Team Grudge Match
AJ Styles & Matt Sydal vs. Jay & Mark Briscoe

Special Attraction
Christopher Daniels with Allison Danger vs. Claudio Castagnoli

Four Corner Survival
Jimmy Rave with Prince Nana vs. Jimmy Yang vs. Delirious vs. Jimmy Jacobs

Debate
JIm Cornette vs. John Zandig

The legendary "Cowboy" Bill Watts will be in attendance for a special autograph signing. Mr. Watts will be signing copies of his book as well as Straight Shootin' With Bill Watts & Jim Cornette.

Bleachers will be opened up on both sides of the ring. The side that is normally open will be for ROH fans. The other side will be for CZW fans. Both promotion's fans will feel at home in their own section in what will create a unique, must be there live atmosphere!!!"

The interpromotional war should be interesting as Chris Hero is my favorite wrestler lately, and the dynamic of the great wrestler (Hero), the bully (Dragon) and the crazy hardcore wrestler (Butcher) should make for an chaotic match. And having Samoa Joe in the match helps with the legitimacy of the angle because it's a top ROH guy involved in the feud (whereas last week at the CZW show in Philly, it was just ROH students that faced off against Chris Hero).

The ascension of Colt Cabana as a more serious wrestler, especially after the Chicago/Detroit shows, will only help him look like an actual threat to Danielson's title (even though we all know Cabana isn't winning the title here).

As a mark for Claudio Castagnoli, I'm looking forward to him getting a higher profile match, and Christopher Daniels is obviously no slouch. Plus it was Claudio who defended ROH recently, so he has a beef with CZW as well.

I'm worried about the "debate" between Cornette and Zandig, but it might be entertaining. Plus, I do hope to see Bill Watts and buy his book and get his autograph on it.

Anyways, sorry for the "shilliness" of this post, but as a fan of both promotions, I really like that this has garnered some attention from the Philly market. It's a win-win for both companies in my opinion, and I hope ROH knows how well this worked (thereby perhaps causing them to extend this interpromotional war angle past next month).

Is anyone else going to this show at the National Guard Armory or at least keeping up on ROH recently, or it is just me? Any thoughts on the RoH/CZW angle?

Congrats Torchslasher, I wish I could just attend any ROH show.

Hopefully there will be absolutely no problems with flights or weather causing one or more people to be suspended or no longer appearing in two certain wrestling promotions.

I've never been to an ROH show but now that I'm an ROH fan I really want to. It just hasn't been viable or convenient yet. So I hope someday they will make it down to Texas or an area I'll be around.

The main event isn't exactly Daniels vs. Danielson vs. Low Ki as we originally thought, but I'm excited about Cabana vs. American Dragon and of course AJ and Sydal vs. the Briscoes.

I just hope after coming off the wild and huge tripleshot weekend they can keep it up with the 100th show in their history.

Its nice to see they aren't using crappy WCW/WWF has beens to move tickets like many promotions. Although, based on what I remember and what I've seen, I would pay money to see Cornette talk.

How is the attendance at these things and do you think they are making any money?

Is there anything compelling on these cards or is everyone just trying to have **** matches? By compelling, I mean Mid-south/Stampede whip the rednecks into a frenzy kind of drama.

I just remembered that im absent minded
wait i mean i lost my mind, i cant find it.

This is the thread the masses demanded!

Last month, I was in such awe after my first ROH event I couldn't even do it justice by reviewing it here. It was in Detroit and it was ROH vs Dragon Gate. They had Necro there too in order to continue (start?) the CZW vs ROH angle. I got the impression that CZW was just considered garbage wrestling and either the Detroit fans legitimately didn't like it or they were just booing them since the CZW guys were dissing ROH.

Torch, I think Claudio has the greatest gimmick. My friend and I hadn't seen ROH in years before going to last month's show (honestly the "E" had drove us all away from any form of rasslin) and when we saw him we immediately caught on to his schtick and ended up yelling HEY for every single punch, heh. If he gets a push I'll be a happy Dawg.

I think this 100th show should be pretty awesome. Sorry Vile1, I know you'll hate me but not only did I go to ROH last month, I'm seeing them in exactly one week in Cleveland and then again in June back in Detroit when KENTA~! comes to ROH from NOAH.

So much stuff to talk about but I'll wait for a report from torch before I talk more. Also, since in a previous thread on the w spoke of the article about the kid getting hurt during wrestling training and Austin Aries being named directly, you have to let me know if he's suspended or anything! If I don't get my GenNext vs Embassy match in Cleveland I'll be muy sad.

Edit - read the results on another message board but will wait for torch to give the official results. All I'll say is I hope CZW isn't at the Cleveland show, reports were those guys were swinging chairs at ROH fans! Second thought, I hope torch is okay~!

Thanks Dawg for the concern, but it was the RoHbots that were the ones that had to fear for their safety as Super Dragon has a "reputation" for messing with fans above what is expected. Supposedly, one of them threw water towards Super Dragon, and he responded by trying to drag that fan over the guardrail. It was broken up quickly so everything was fine I think.

Anyways, man what a fun night I had, as it almost harkened back to the blissful days pre-Internet in terms of letting the smarkiness go and just having fun.

The first match was Christoper Daniels vs. Claudio Castagnoli. Claudio was cheered because he had defended ROH last month against CZW despite being a member of the CZW roster. Daniels won the match, and then for what is supposedly the first time, he actually shook the hand of his opponent. He then put over Claudio strong as the future of ROH. Remember this. There was a decent Austin Aries/Rod Strong vs. Homicide/Ricky Reyes match. Delirious won an okay four corners survival match. Bryan Danielson faced Cabana, and got the win in literally five minutes. All of us were wondering what was going on at the time, but I guess they mean to build up Cabana more before he's given a serious chance to contend for the main title.

After the intermission, and after an ROH students match, Danielson came back out and really laid into us CZW marks. The quick victory over Cabana was then understood when Danielson talked about wanting another match because of his quick victory. He picked Delirious and they had a great 15 minute or so match where Delirious got a lot of offense and hope spots. Danielson eventually won via ref stoppage.

He again went after us CZW fans, as our section was ripping every match at the show and Danielson himself. To be honest, some of the CZW fans were plain annoying with some non-sensical chants and some bad behavior. I was loud as well, but I tried to watch the matches and get into the stories.

The best pure match of the night was the Briscoe Brothers versus AJ Styles and Matt Sydal. I'm a huge AJ mark, but all four guys were incredible. I was really impressed with the Briscoes in this one, and this was the one match that got even the "let's shit on everything" CZW fans to shut up and watch the contest. The Briscoes won the match, which was a bit of a surprise to me.

Anyways, the "debate" was very entertaining, with Cornette clearly the aggressor. Zandig made some good points, but it was Cornette's bluster that won out really. It was a squash really, but that didn't matter as it set up the main event.

And what a fun main event it was. The six guys went all over the place and it was a good hardcore type match without being TOO clusterfucky. The biggest spot of the match was when Super Dragon gave BJ Whitmer a Psycho Driver off the ring apron through a table. Zandig came back out and it was basically four on two until Claudio came back out. He then turned on ROH and helped Hero finish off Adam Pearce. The place went crazy, and CZW got the win. It was nice to see this, especially after ROH got a victory at the CZW arena during their main event of their card in March at the old ECW arena. I will never forget the finale when the CZW guys came to our bleachers (ROH smartly set aside a bleachers section for us CZW fans) and I'm standing literally four feet away from a bloody Necro Butcher and a spent Super Dragon.

So no, it was not the best wrestling card ROH has ever put on, not by a long shot (heck, I've only been to a handful of ROH events and most of them had better "wrestling"), but I have NEVER had more fun at an ROH show. So don't buy the DVD if you are looking for a wrestling card. I'm sure the workrate types (of which I am kinda-sorta one) would be disappointed, but if you were there live, you probably had the time of your life.

Finally, nothing is better than looking into the face of a dejected and ready-to-cry "Green Lantern Fan." It was priceless.

Yeah, as it turned out reports of "swinging chairs at fans" were greatly exagerated. Apparently the person that was involved in the incident was on the ROH boards and said that he did in fact provoke SD and so it wasn't all that suprising that he got attacked.

It's too bad that Claudio attacked ROH and turned because I'd rather see a face push for him. However, if this means a Claudio match against Joe or some other "main event caliber" wrestler at the upcoming Cleveland show then I suppose I can live without the Hey chants. Edit - it was announced by Gabe that Cleveland will be host to Claudio vs Joe!!

Now, as I understand CZW it is violent, "garbage" wrestling, or at least it started out this way. However, I hear they have more technical wrestling now also, is this true? I'm not a huge fan of buckets of blood but it's not a complete turn off and what red-blooded American doesn't love to see their wrestlers get hit in the head with various objects every once in awhile?

Anyways, would this show be a good pick up for CZW n00bs like myself and is their any other DVDs you'd recommend checking out from them?

Yeah, the same guy is on our message boards as well I think (the one linked in my sig), and he admitted that he got what he deserved. One report though had Super Dragon actually monkey-flipping a fan, and it seems that was just a myth.

CZW used to mostly be about more "garbage" and hardcore wrestling, but that changed mightily when they started running in the old ECW arena. It is now more of a "something for everyone" promotion with technical wrestling, at least one "spot" driven match, and of course a crazy brawl here and there to satisfy the bloodmarks. I am NOT a bloodmark at all, and I always avoid the yearly "Tournament of Death" event. I'm more about the wrestling, but I don't mind a mindless brawl or a hardcore match now and again. Unfortunately, many of the fans are bloodmarks and it takes some getting used to.

The big shows for CZW are the Best of the Best tournaments (in fact, the next one is next month in Philly), but I have only seen one of them, which was last year's BOTB 5. That event was great. The biggest show of the CZW year though is December's Cage of Death, with a gimmick cage match as the main event. COD7 was good last year but a bit underwhelming. COD6 in 2004 though was great and it might be a good place to start.

You also can't go wrong with the High Stakes shows, both the afternoon and the night show from July 2004. Last year's Violent By Design in June 05 was the consensus best show of last year by most people. Another strong show from 05 was Only The Strong from February.

Anyways, the Claudio/Joe match should be interesting, although I fear for Castagnoli in that match. I only hope that more ROH guys get booked for the BOTB tournament next month, or just anything to continue this feud because the "war" made this last show so much fun and it increased attendance at the Armory, at least beyond the last two ROH shows I saw there. CZW could even be heading towards a Christopher Daniels/Claudio final in BOTB, as it would be a nice nod to the angle from last night.

BTW, any other questions about CZW could always be sent via PM to me, but I hope that other W's can see where this can only help ROH in the Philly market. Heck, much of Cornette's rant in the debate was about Philly being on the cutting edge and how they should work together eventually to keep this market strong. It pointed to the eventual ending of the angle, but they'd be crazy to end it now or even during the summer. ROH got a crazy crowd for their first show in the ECW arena earlier this year mostly because of the "war," and now's not the time to end it.
