I'm looking at dial-up services for my mother-in-law. They don't use the 'net for much, so even the extra $10/month for DSL isn't really worth it for them.
Most of the services I found are around the $9.95/month ballpark.
My question is this: Most of them offer "accelerated" service for a few dollars more.
Am I wrong, or is this just the pre-cacheing software accelerators that you can download for free anywhere? If so, I can set that up for them right?
Or do the ISP's have some proprietary software that works better?
I haven't been on dial-up in years, so I'm not sure what the "standard" is at this point.
Working for an ISP in Atlantic canada, the Accelerator we use is a Proxy that degrades images to make them smaller to download getting faster download speeds. Not bad if it's free
I was wondering, if anyone who was technincally superior in computers and internet traffic could let me know the average bandwidth various online programs consume, such as Trillian, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, and ICQ.
