For most of the show I got the feeling that this was a throw away episode. That all changed pretty quickly in the last 10-15 minutes. The revelations that Rose knows about Locke's former paralysis and that she was also healed by the island were pretty sweet. I was also extremely happy to see the reappearance of Michael at the end. At the beginning of the episode I said to myself how much I really missed having him and Walt around. Looks like we're going to get some more Michael in the very near future!

It's good to see SOMEONE (i.e., Bernard) finally acknowledged that it's a bit strange that food parachuted out of the sky but nobody seems to be questioning it.

Kate is back to her old annoying ways. I wish Jack had laid into her a bit more than he did. Why is she so thick-headed?

Three things that kinda annoyed me on tonites episode:

#1. I would have been busting my ass helping Benard on that SOS message on the beach. What the hell is wrong with these people ? Benards absolutely right....they must not want off that island that bad.

#2. Why the heck would Charlie suddenly want to help Mr. Ecko build a church ?

#3. I'm getting really sick of people on the show discovering things and not saying a single word to anybody about it. Locke see's Egyptian-like hieroglyphics appear on the countdown clock and then later he see's some sort of map on the door, and he never says a damn word about it. Kate and Claire discover another hatch, and neither bother to immediately tell anybody.

#2. Why the heck would Charlie suddenly want to help Mr. Ecko build a church ?

Maybe he feels bad about what he did to Claire/Aaron and/or Sun? Perhaps he sees this as his penance. Plus, he's been pretty much an outcast since the Claire/Aaron stuff, so he's probably glad someone wants to be around him.

Locke see's Egyptian-like hieroglyphics appear on the countdown clock and then later he see's some sort of map on the door, and he never says a damn word about it.

Why would he? He feels like the island is speaking to him, and that it is his duty to figure out the secrets. He probably doesn't want a bunch of people running through the hatch interrupting his work. Plus, they're still trying to keep Gale under wraps. He didn't tell people about the hatch when he originally found it, either.

You have to remember Locke is a fiercely independent guy. "Don't tell me what I can or can't do!" Witness also Locke getting angry when Gale asked him why he lets Jack boss him around. He doesn't want to depend on someone else to do his work for him.

Why Kate or CLaire didn't mention the other hatch, I dunno, but the Locke stuff makes perfect sense.

As for last night's episode, I take it Kate never saw Return of the Jedi. That doll was straight up "Chewie grabbing the meat" in the forest on Endor.

As for the next episode, speculation on the internets is that the Others have flipped Michael, convincing him to trade Losties in exchange for Walt. The previews show him saying the Others are barely armed, and that the Others can be easily taken in a fight. Total set up. Boy, is Michael going to have egg on his face when the Others renege on the deal.

The same reason why Boone helped Locke work on the hatch. He had something to prove to himself and those on the island he thinks highly of.

You know, I don't much like Bernard after this episode.

Bernard sucks. I think this whole episode was a waste of time. I know they can't give us balls to the wall action every week, but MAN this was just filler.
My theory - the Others have brainwashed Michael.

WHAAAAAA?! I actually liked that his character, though foolish in his execution, has probably the best intentions of anyone on the island. The guy was a bachelor for 56 years, fell madly in love with this woman, and wants to make sure she's happy and safe more than anything else in this world. What's not to like?

As someone else said, when it comes to the more mysterious aspects of the island, Locke has always been very secretive about his discoveries. Although he's become more skeptical, he still holds onto the belief to some extent that the island is speaking directly to him, and that he's the one that needs to "crack the codes" so to speak. While I don't buy the theory that he's an "agent" of the island, I still think that he knows more than he's letting on and/or than has been revealed in his flashbacks thus far.

In defense of the Kate character, she really hasn't had much of a chance to tell Jack, seeing as how he's been down in that hatch with "Henry" for the past few days. By the way, you could turn that right around and note that Jack also didn't reveal the existence of "Henry" either. Considering how close they were, and how Kate was part of some weird "inner circle" in the first season, that's sort of a slap in the face to Kate (hence the sarcastic "happy to be back in the club" comment during the excursion to the line).

The lack of communication is part of an over-arching problem on the island that should be addressed in the finale (if not then very early next season). Jack and Locke were perceived as leaders, but they've spent so little time on the beach lately that things have more or less been complete chaos. Last night's episode was the perfect example of that - Bernard was able to call people together (even though they ended up not helping him in the long run) because they're all looking for someone, anyone, to tell them what's going on. The only thing the other Losties have as a leader is Sawyer, and he's too busy reading Judy Blume books and Lording it over anyone who wants medicine or guns to be an actual leader.

I want to briefly address the montage sequence towards the end of the episode. The look on Sun's face as Jin was rubbing her stomach in their shelter seemed to indicate a look of worry. I almost took this as it meaning the baby definitely isn't his, and he's still infertile. However, I'm starting to suspect that they're going the route of her thinking it isn't his, but then she gets word of the other "cures" on the island and when she finally does the math realizes that it MUST be his.

Also: Jin's getting his child. Claire's had her baby. Hurley's found love, and potentially sanity. Locke's found purpose. Rose and Bernard found a life together (sans the cancer). I have to wonder if there was more to this brief sequence than meets the eye, since it seems like all the Losties on the island are slowly getting what they want.

NEXT EPISODE
- Michael's back, and he's telling them that he found The Others, and they're barely armed. Whether the Others got to him or they only showed him what they wanted him to see...IT'S A TRAP! [/overused Intarweb joke]
- Ana Lucia is going to kill "Henry." But...not so fast, because "Henry" uses the DREADED DOUBLE-HAND CHOKE ON ANA LUCIA! There are a LOT of people right now that are hoping beyond hope that she ends up in the sand by the end of the season finale.

Overall, good episode. Bernard and Rose are freaking adorable.

Good intentions, bad execution. Just as Rose said, he wants to fix things too much. The same complaint was made about Jack. So Bernard's role is a little redundant. This makes me think he's not gonna get off the island alive.

When you even drive Jin away after playing the wife card, you gotta read the writing on the beach.

The actor's doing a fine job. My complaint is with the character.

I hate to be a big softy, but I like Rose an Bernard especially their reunion. The so called "sexual chemistry" with Jack and Kate in the net was lame.

I know that the castaways got Ethan, Godwin, and now "Henry", but I really don't believe that The Others need Michael's help to snag a few more people. They really haven't shown in the past that they're unable to get what they want, so why bribe Michael? I could see Deputy Marshall's idea that they just showed Michael what they wanted him to see, or he might not have seen everything - I mean, does anyone truly believe it was even Walt that Michael was chatting with on the computer? I doubt the idea that The Others can be easily taken. With all that they set up for Claire, them having a boat (why DO they have a boat on an island, anyway, unless there's....another island!), and probably a reason for wanting to look so rag-tag, there's gotta be so much more there.

Also, I completely got the whole "Bernard Logic". He loves Rose, doesn't want to see her die, and if he can find a way to save her, he wants to. On the island, he thinks that she is (or knows her to be) saved from the cancer, and only wants to get back home to let his wife live happy and healthy (and it's not like he knew about "the healing power of the island"). Obviously, he is driven/stubborn/dedicated and overdone about it, but like Jack, it's not the worst quality, especially stranded on an island when many people have NO drive to do ANYTHING.

I don't think I read that deeply into the montage. I took it as a fluffy little moment showing various people on the island finding someone to be with (since that's basically what the whole Bernard-Rose story is about). Note Sawyer sharing his food with Vincent.

Um, did you NOT watch the end of the episode? Bernard and Rose have already decided that they're not going to get off the island alive because they never want to leave!

The Others seem lightly armed? Could this be the trap that Henry was talking about setting up earlier on? I have a feeling Henry is really the leader of the others. He's already shown he can push the buttons of a lot of the people that come in contact with him.

I also heard that the actor that plays Walt has grown pretty rapidly, more rapidly than the length of the stranded one's stay so I'd be surprised to see him again. Although, they can always say his powers caused him to grow.

They say that now. I'm pretty sure that if Rose knew what kind of baragain is involved in losing the cancer (whatever experiement Dharma is running with them), she might decide to leave.

And, hey, she lied to Bernard before. Maybe she said that to make him chill out. She didn't say to Locke that SHE had been healed, just that she knew he was ambulatory.

On top of the penance, Charlie also had alot of religious scenes in his hallucinations, before he nabbed Aaron. So maybe subconsciously (or evenly consciously) he's drawn to the church.

Plus, he kinda' bonded with Eko on the little trip to the downed plane.

Yeah, he's sprouted. He was on "My Name is Earl" last week and there was a notable difference. Keeping him out of LOST scenes might dilute our memory of Walt, so when/if he finally re-appears, we wont notice the physical variance.

...or else Walt's dead. That'd back-up "Henry's" firm statement of "they won't give you Walt back!". But I'm probably reading too much into that.

Oh hey...Isaac from the flashback: wasn't Hurley trying to locate him as well? He was tied to the numbers in some way, right?
