What a crazy episode. The flashbacks with Locke were really good, not boring at all as some of the flashbacks tend to be for me. It doesn't hurt that Locke is one of the 3 most interesting characters to me on the island (Sawyer and Sayid being my 2 others).

The symbols that appeared on the door were interesting. I can't wait to see a screen capture of them so that I can check them out some more. And speaking of the door, OUCH how can Locke even stand up after having his leg punctured like that. Maybe it looked worse than it was really supposed to be, but it looked like that stud punched through through his quad.

I really liked Henry Gale in this episode, and a great way to finally show that he is an Other. Sayid is a badass for digging up a grave.

I also liked Jack beating Sawyer at poker. It gives him an edge over Sawyer that he hasn't had yet. Plus I love movies/shows where one guy dominates the rest in card games for some reason. Reminds me of watching Maverick on VHS way too much when I was younger I think.

And the best part is... we don't have to wait another couple of weeks for a new episode. Three new weekly episodes in a row, shit that's gotta be some kind of record for Lost this year.

Here's a good screencap (i11.photobucket.com)

Great episode. Jack was bad-ass with his "when I want the guns, I'll take them." Kate also got in a great line with her "do I need to get a ruler?" before she & Hurley left the poker game.

Here's a brighter one (lost.cubit.net)

This show is like having a friend who's playing Myst. You get to go over his house once a week for an hour and watch him play over his shoulder. The writers are EVIL!!!

I was so nervous while the mobsters (for lack of a better guess) were interrogating Locke and Helen. I fully expected them to shoot and kill Helen, and maim Locke enough to cause the loss of his legs. I still expect them to be the reason for his paralysis. I just hope that Helen stays away and doesn't get involved in this. (They better keep their hands off Katey!)

Is anyone else thinking that Cooper is most likely the real Sawyer? He's clearly more of a conman than just being a kidney-stealer...

The poker was fun. I'm surprised that Sawyer let himself get beat. For someone who claimed to be the new sheriff, he's squandering his power rather quickly.

ARGH! Darn it Eddie, I was hoping I'd be the first on the net to predict that Cooper is the real Mister Sawyer.

I'm going to pretend like I was anyway.

I really REALLY hope next week is a Hurley episode.

Lost really REALLY needs to steal the "non-stop season" idea from 24.

Fans of 24 and HBO, myself included, are spoiled to the non stop seasons. But isn't the only reason 24 does it because of the baseball playoffs? Imagine having to wait 6 or 7 weeks for a new 24! Anyway, another good Lost last night, it made Jack seem less goody-goody. Locke is now even more so the best character on the show.

Not necessarily. The writers might throw a curve and it will turn out that he took that other guys identity because maybe he was wanted by the police for some huge crime or something like that.

I totally agree with you here. There was something about Jack beating Sawyer, and also catching him dealing from the bottom of the deck that at least implies that there actually is interesting stuff about Jack that we don't know yet.

Folks on other boards say yes. My wife made us rewind the hotel scene to catch the Oceanic logo on the planes overhead.

At this point in the show, I just assume that every plane in every flashback (or hanging over every crib) is going to be Oceanic and that everyone shown in a flashback has some connection to someone else on the island.

Great episode - so did the doors go up by themselves like "Henry" said or did he know how to do it and chose not to say ? If the inside of the closed doors had that much written on them - how long were they closed before and how often ? When Jack knew what everyone had when he walked up to the Poker game, I figured that the deck had been marked not that Jack was a Phuket Card Shark. It does add yet another interesting dynamic to the Jack/Sawyer relationship. I love that Sayid is turning into the 2nd biggest badass on the island after Mr. Eko, of course.

Is it next Wednesday yet ?

Wow, that is an awesome screencapture+modification job. I've been pouring over it for the past 10 minutes. Also, jfkfc's translations are very interesting, especially the one about the disease and remedy. Thanks to both of you.

That map sounds like a spoiler, so I'm holding off on my clicking of it.

How far will Locke go to keep his word and protect the other? Crawling under doors with pins on them is a bad idea when there is a vent to climb through.

I'm still not convinced. He was trapped in the hatch for four of five days and it seems likely that the real Others would have gone to get him by now. Also, would they have made a grave like that for the real baloonist, or just disposed of the body? I think the fake Henry is more connected to the real Henry than he is to the Others.

That enhanced map mentions failure of the Cerberus. I can only assume that is the name of the monster, which is awesome.
Also, it appears there is a research station called "the pearl" where zoological research occurred. Remember the Dharma logo on the shark tail? It was a pearl. The enhanced map says Dharma was trying to acclimate the polar bears to extreme new climates.
The map also indicates Desmond or whoever wrote the scrawl wanted to explore more of the island, but was ultimately stopped by the need to press the button.
Theory: All of the hatches/bunkers were connected to some central THING on the island, but were sealed off when the "incident" occurred. I think if the castaways DON'T push the button, something GOOD actually will happen. Namely, the blast doors will come down, protecting whoever is in the hatch, and some huge explosion/laser/drill will open that sealed pathway.

Ah, but from a writing perspective, his instinct was rewarded. Locke has unwittingly sacrificed his well-being to glean something new from the hatch. He believes the island brought them there, and he believes his sacrifice of Boone was necessary to get inside the plane and possibly the hatch.

I have a minor nitpick that hopefully someone who's seen the episode more than once can clear up. I've already erased it from my DVR.

In the scene where Cooper is explaining the details of the money transfer plan, he says to Locke something along the lines of, "If you miss our meeting at the motel, Helen is dead."

But later, at the motel, he asks Locke, "So, your date at my funeral, she got a name?", and Locke replies "Helen".

Was this a script goof, an editing goof, or did I miss a line that made this exchange make sense?

I remember that very differently. Cooper said to Locke along the lines of "if you don't decide to do this, I understand."

Hmmm...I guess I heard "I'll understand" as "Helen is dead". But without the benefit of being able to go back and check, it's driving me crazy.

I definitely heard "I'll understand" or something along those lines. Cooper basically told Locke that if he didn't go along with the plan, he wouldn't hold it against him. Farthest thing possible from threatening Helen.

Two days later and I'm still diging those map links. I was watching the show at my buddy's house. When the map on the blast door appeared, he said "whoa..we should go back and freeze that". I jokingly said "naw...it'll be posted on the Internet by tomorrow morning". I love the frickin' Internet.

I didn't get a clear look at Henry's map, but it looked like his balloon wreckage was located just over the hill from Owl's place and close to Eeyore's shack.

I'm thinking that all the sudden alarms in the hatch were tied into the impending food drop. Like that was the "hey, food's gonna' be falling from the sky any second now" alarm. Or else the plane was electro-magnet proof and its presence was causing problems with the hatch's mechanics.
