From the writer of Scrubs. It has the most of the same slapstick from Scrubs just a bit different setting. Perfect follow up for me on Tuesdays after watching Dog the Bounty Hunter on A&E.

Not at dramatic as Commander in Cheif during the fall but what should I expect when I watch serious show.

Ehh...I loved Teachers! Did you?

Not really. There was something about the show that rubbed me the wrong way, with some really flat one liners ("boyfriend" over and over) and the fact that they went with the "teachers are either slackers or complete nerds" theme that's been done to death in comedies (tv or movies) for as long as I can remember. Then they try to heartwarm it up with the main characters big speech at the end about loving his job so much. The Hamlet bit was good, and I'd like it even more if they did things like that. I think it would work better if it was about, you know, teachers teaching instead of basically an office romance set in a public school.

I'll give it another shot or two, but I don't have high hopes. Of course, this is NBC, where comedies go to die now, so I'm sure it won't last.

I wasn't very impressed by the debut, but I was thrilled that Phil Hendrie was on the show.

For those that don't know, Phil is a radio host who basically talks to himself in different characters and gets people to call in thinking they are real guests. It is absolutely hilarious.

IANAD, but they promoted the hell out of My Name is Earl (My Name is Judge) and ordered a second season of The Office despite not-great ratings on Thursday night.

Like I said, though, IANAD, so maybe I'm missing something.

I was pretty disappointed. Wound up turning it off half way through because I just wasn't laughing.

And I think they do a great job with Earl and the Office. But they have no idea what to do with Scrubs (not renewed yet, and they should place it with Earl/Office), they've kept "Will & Grace" on the air for about 3 years too many and I thought "Three Kings" was pretty rotten. "Joey" shouldn't have been put on the air. I'm sure there was something out there that NBC could have spent Joey money on that had a funny joke or two. Go back to last year with that show "Committed", which didn't work and wasn't funny, either. That other show coming down the pike ("Thick and Thin" I think is the title) just looks terrible, too. I love Earl, the Office and Scrubs, but NBC shouldn't get a pass, especially since those are like 3/4 of the sitcom lineup on a network that once had some very funny shows. It's like all they put on now is different versions of that crappy show that was on at 8:30 on Thursdays, between Friends and Seinfeld.

EDIT: I should be more clear.

Didn't watch it ... The commercials featured some really pathetic attempt at a joke (something like "Where are you from, Fat-Bald-ica"?) and it had me thinking, "If THAT is the best that your show has to offer, if THAT is the one thing that you want to highlight and show off to your potential audience, then I can do without thank you".

I KNEW that voice sounded familiar. I was in Cuba for three months a few years ago on an exchange thing, and I lived off picking that show up off Florida AM radio. (It took me much too long to get that the guests were fake.)

That Baldfatistan joke was so bad; I had completely written off the show before watching it (only watched because I was too lazy to change the channel after Scrubs). The show wasn't great, but it was nice to see Susan from Coupling on it (I've been working my way through that the last few weeks). The weird thing about that joke from the ad is that it looks exactly like a university classroom (with the slope of desks), but the show is based in a high school with regular ground level desks. Did they do a major re-working of the show, and keep that joke to pull viewers in?

Not only does "Teachers" feature the lovely Sarah Alexander from UK Coupling, it's also apparently got the guy who played Patrick on the laughably bad remake of said show-which just happened to be NBC's biggest "egg on their faces" moment since the demise of the XFL. I'd love to be a fly on the wall when those two met for the first time.

I wasn't crazy about the first episode, but I'll give it a few more episodes before I completely write it off. It seemed awfully cliched to me. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the ratings were terrible, and it didn't GET that second chance to win me over.

Hmm...why do I end left in the corner while everyone is at the bar drinking, having fun, and enjoying themselves.

I guess since my mom is actually a school principal, she's as up tight as they come, is part of the reasoning behind me liking it because it had pot shot humor for me. Jab at "Teachers" that I personally wouldn't ever do but can let it out on that show. Vent anyone? I guess you'd have to be on the inside to know.

Phil Hendrie is hilarious. I haven't listened to him for a while but when I do it is great.

I didn't watch it, but I came across this frim imdb.com and thought I'd pass it along to y'all.

    TV Reviews: 'Teachers'

Hoping to pull itself out of its fourth-place position in the ratings, NBC is launching a new sitcom, Teachers, tonight (Tuesday) at 9:30 p.m. -- but if critics' reaction is any indication, the sitcom is likely to push the network further behind its rivals rather than ahead. San Francisco Chronicle critic Tim Goodman comments that Teachers "lands with a horrendous thud. Bad? It's a leech on our soul. Never have 22 minutes so felt like 44 minutes." Matthew Gilbert in the Boston Globe describes it as a "slavishly dopey comedy, which fires off race, breast, and gay jokes like a kid with a spitball straw and too much saliva." David Bianculli in the New York Daily News sums it all up this way: "Yawn, yawn, yawn." And Robert Bianco in USA Today concludes: "That the show itself will flunk is pretty much a no-brainer. The only question is why the NBC executives who put this stuff on the air keep getting a pass."

I caught it last night, not realize that The Office wasn't on. Anyone know why it wasn't? Just a week off, I hope?

It seemed that the characters on Teachers were pretty cliche, but it worked in the way that the movie The Replacements worked for me - it was just funny. I almost turned it off because I wanted to watch The Office, but I found myself laughing pretty hard. The whole "drinking a beer in class" thing was quite much, but him poking the substitute while sitting on the bed and saying, "I am just making sure you're real!" got me laughing. That, and the preview for the next show that went, "Geez, you're black! You're supposed to be angry!"..."I am from Maine. My father was an optician. I'm really not that angry!" I've missed the boat on Scrubs, so it looks like I have a one hour block set aside on Tuesdays for Scrubs and Teachers.

In other news, this show sucks.

After watching about 2 minutes of the show last night the girlfried turned to me and said "hey, you should play God of War instead of us watching this". That should tell you right there what we thought about it.

I don't think I've ever been as mad at a network as I was last night. The Office is the best comedy I've seen on network tv in a long, long time and instead of a new episode what do we get? Some god awful show that will be gone in two months. Gah. Couldn't they shown Teachers at 8:30 instead of back to back episodes of Earl?

The Office would have been a rerun (I know, who cares) because NBC is trying to stretch what episodes of the show they have left until the end of the month/beginning of May. The orginal plan was to end the office in March, but the ratings were improved, and some fans were angry that they'd end the show so early (Steve Carrell has a movie to shoot, so I think they shortened the amount of episodes this season anyway), so NBC changed plans. This means that we have to put up with shows like Teachers in the Office slot (to give a very bad show a ratings boost), so that the Office ends when all the other shows on NBC end.

I flipped to it for about five minutes. The lead guy was talking to a gal who was just hired as a teacher. They were talking about his lame "fire at the banana factory" excuse.

What struck me about the scene is that there is NO WAY a teacher would wear such a low-cut, bosom-heaving outfit to school. They'd send that newbie home.

After seeing the first episode twice, I decided to give this show another chance last night.
It was AWFUL.
From the makers of "Scrubs" -- yeah, that's the ONLY thing it has in common.
The lead is not funny. They are trying to make him like Chandler Bing -a nice guy with a sarcastic response to every situation, but he needs better material.
When he tosses something to the girl and she misses, he quips, "Oh that's right you're British, you catch on the other side"
I just shook my head, wondering what kind of jokes DIDN'T make the cut.
This also proves the laugh track should be retired for good and helps me appreciate shows like The Office, Earl, and Scrubs.
