Hell, he really is nothing.

I just have to say this about, Goldberg being nothing ...
Flashback with me, if you will, to the night of the last WCW Nitro:
Vince McMahon is in the ring, after receiving a monster cheer from the crowd for buying out the hated WCW, Vince asks the crowd to help him decide what to do with WCW, should he rebuild it, who should he choose? He runs through names Hulk Hogan, Lex Luger, Buff Bagwell, Booker T. Except for Luger, these names get a good reaction. Vince starts to move on, but he is stopped by the crowd, a chant starts in a WWF arena full of WWF fans "gold-berg" "GOLD-BERG" "GOLD-BERG" Vince is taken aback, as the camera focus's on a Goldberg sign in the crowd. Vince stammers, "There are a few others? All right, Sting? You Want Sting? Uh ... Goldberg?" The Crowd erupts in what was possibly the loudest cheer of the night.
End the Flashback:

Yeah, we was worthless then too.

So what do we have in the present? Goldberg hasn't been in a ring in a while? Is that bad for his character? No, it's good for it, why? For the same reason it was good for Hogan, the fans didn't remember the lousy Hogan, who gummed up the top of WCW for years, who was shot on by Russo, who came to the ring calling himself by his real name, wearing an FUNB vest. No, they remembered the Hulkster the hero, and the cool Hollywood, who revolutionized wresting with the nWo.

So, what will they remember about Goldberg? The guy who was booked in a dumb angle to keep him away from the world title, so Russo could have his "New Bloods" fighting each other for the belt? The guy who was booked into a dumb work the smarks angle, where he would "break the script." Or will they remember the unstoppable monster, that pinned Hulk Hogan clean, the guy who every mark in the world dreamed of seeing in the ring with guys like Rock, Austin, and HHH? I think it's safe to say they will remember the latter.

I personally find it disappointing that the WWF writers would think so little of the diverse talent currently on the payroll that they would pursue another "blast from the past" wrestler like Goldberg.

That being said...

It would not amaze me to see Goldberg show up on the Smackdown payroll. However, I question whether he's worth the sizeable salary he will likely demand. I also don't think he brings anything to the locker room - especially given his past ambivalence towards pro wrestling. (Some of the Tough Enough potentials could teach Goldberg a thing or two about heart.)

Goldberg must know his options are limited, though - he's obviuosly not garnering the acting roles he thought he would receive, and there's few wrestling options available. Perhaps the Jarrett PPV promotion would offer Goldberg a share of the "gate" (ie, the PPV buys) to entice him to headline their new promotion, but Goldberg may still find headlining a new promotion beneath him.

Let's face it. Showing interest in Goldberg means only one thing: The WWF believes it's losing The Rock.

When you read interviews with Vince McMahon and the Ross Report, they both have this bravado about Rock always being in the WWF because "it's in his blood." I think its naive of them to believe or count on Rock ever again wrestling. Maybe he'll do a "Roddy Piper one-shot" type thing, just to get his fix every Wrestlemania or something...but part of storylines? I think the WWF has seen the success of The Scorpion King, seen just how popular Rock has been on every TV show he appears on, reads how movie critics praise him even when panning the movie...that the lure of Hollywood is just too much.

The split was designed with Austin and Rock each anchoring a show. Well Rock is gone. The seconds are ticking on Hogan. Triple H is not a money-drawing babyface. Yes, they can just keep trying to push Brock Lesnar, and whatever else you guys think can work just as well as Goldberg...but Goldberg is a name. Goldberg is probably the only guy not already in the WWF that has even a chance of anchoring a show.

And for all the talk of Goldberg not loving the business...I think he does love the business. Does loving the business mean it has to consume him like it does Triple H? So he has other interests and other priorities. That's great for him. Look on the bright side of his outside interests: He's the kind of guy who people want to appear at their charity functions, on talk shows, celebrity events...he's a mainstream-friendly guy. That's a good thing for the WWF.

It doesn't mean that because of that he doesn't also work hard or care about making the product better and making himself better. People rip his workrate and moveset in WCW. 1)I don't see where his 5 moves is any more limited than any of the top guys in the WWF save for Kurt Angle. 2)What incentive in WCW did he have for expanding his moveset and improving his workrate? He no doubt went to the ring and did exactly what the bookers told him to do.

From where I sit, its all upside on bringing in Goldberg.

I suppose they feel the WWF main event scene is too crowded, so they need someone to accidently end a couple of careers, and who's better for the job than Big Fake Austin?

Goldberg's workrate makes Hulk Hogan look like Ricky fucking Steamboat. Let him spend the rest of his life doing Keystone Light commercials and keep him away from a wrestling ring.

Goldberg in the WWF would be bad for a lot of reasons, but primarily because the WWF creative team would have one more voice they have to deal with in deciding what to write.

Think about it. You're in the WWF locker room, and you have The Rock, Austin, Taker, Hogan, and Flair. The 5 biggest names, aside from Andre the Giant, in American Professional Wrestling since the Bicentennial. All 5 of these men want an equal share, and that's damn near impossible to give.

Then, you factor in: HHH, The nWo, Kurt Angle, and Chris Jericho. These are all main eventers too. They want their peice of the pie, and are probably buzzing in the ears of writers too.

Now rumors are floating of Goldberg, Steiner, Hart, Shawn Micheals, etc.

What the WWF needs, to be honest, is less guys with astronomical salaries so the creative team doesn't get chewed out for working a guy who makes 7 figures with a guy who makes 5. There is room at the top, since the split, for 4 men. Two major heels, two major babyfaces. You always have your big star, then work other people into the main event based around that theory. You don't, however, grab into a bucket of main eventers then try to sort out which will wind up curtain jerking that night.

While working security at a local indy show, I saw Ricky Morton's bare ass, and the next time I hear anybody out there say "playing Ricky Morton", the person they mention had best have a really nice ass.

Okay, first of all...look at the guys you just named. Austin, Taker, and Flair--Raw. All three guys with very different roles, only Austin can carry a show. The Rock and Hogan--Smackdown, although Hogan is floating. The Rock is gone. Hogan isn't a long-term solution and nobody in the WWF is pretending that he is.

Your second tier main eventers...Triple H, the NWO, Kurt Angle, Jericho...all heels. None of these guys can anchor a show, none of them have larger-than-life mainstream personalities. Triple H is great on the talk shows, but his babyface persona is so vanilla, he just won't be able to succeed at both. He's going to have to turn heel to keep from falling in the wrestling world--but wrestling heels don't "go Hollywood."

The WWF has a network TV show that needs a star. It had The Rock. It no longer has The Rock. Goldberg is the biggest name out there. It'll either turn out like NYPD Blue replacing David Caruso with Jimmy Smits or The Brady Bunch adding Cousin Oliver. My money's on the former with Goldberg.

All that comes to my mind on the subject of a Goldberg return is Who's he gonna cripple next?

He gave Bret a concussion and forced Bret to retire, which was the last step in him going completely nuts.

I wouldn't bring him back.

Signing Goldberg to WWF can be a good thing. I think if Goldbeg comes into WWF with a desire to work and learn the craft it can be nothing but good. Ive read about his so called attitude and Ive even read an interview in Penthouse where he said he didnt know how to work a good match and he didnt care to learn. Now I sense that his attitude may have come from the incompetence that was WCW management. In a place like WWF where managemnt has a strong sense of control, and the locker room has hard working leaders maybe Goldberg will recognize that and step up his own game. Ive never blamed Goldberg for his push, he just came in and did what he was told. hey asked him to do a certain style and he stuck to that. But I think that hed be willing to learn to elevate his ring skill in the right environment. And Goldberg would be a plus in bringing back some old WCW fans. As fr as his perceived beef with HHH, among others, Im sure that the Net crowd will probably make a bigger deal about it than the two of them would.

Bottom line is , a Motivated Goldberg is $$$ for the WWF.

Hilarious. I'd pay to see him get killed in a match with Silva.

Speaking of Jericho, I could have sworn I recently read an article that mentioned Chris' contract is ending soon and that he wants to focus on music.
