According to published reports Bob Huggins will be announced as the new head coach at K-State.

Interesting note to those who follow recruiting is the rumored affiliation of top high school seniors-to-be OJ Mayo and Bill Walker. It's long been rumored that they'll follow Huggins anywhere and it's expected that they'll immediately make a team a contender on the national scene.

Probably good news for K-State basketball in terms of wins and losses but bad news for the university itself. The university can look forward to poor academic performance by the players, miniscule graduation rates (but not worse than the 0% achieved by most of his Cincy teams), general bad behavior and a complete lack of class. Not to mention the possibility of seeing the coach driving drunk.

But, if the guys wins, who the hell cares, right? Condolences to people who actually care about Kansas State University. Congrats to the ones who only care about athletics.

This is going to do for K-State (at least) what hiring Bob Knight did for Texas Tech. Beyond Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas (for as long as Barnes stays), the rest of the conference is wide open. Just look at how quickly Billy Gillespie has turned Texas A&M around. They won't have a model program, but they will win some games.

Kinda weird thinking that Kansas State could wind up with two of the top five recruits in the class of '07. That plus Kansas' choke job in the tourney the last two years could make thing interesting in that state. Not that I think K-State is going to overtake them anytime soon.

I was thinking more along the lines of winning three tournament games at a program that had a total of four before he got there.

Since I work for said institution and am somewhat familiar with it and its supporters, I feel a need to comment. His behavior of the past will not betolerated and I know he was told that. The start of Snyder's slide was letting Roberson start at the Fiesta Bowl. This really is the Heartland and wins or no he will have a short leash.
I certainly have my concerns but maybe Manhattan KS is just what he needs and the Cats need someone to get them in the game. At one time the Cats BB program was excellent and was actually a desirable job. For you younger W's, look up the history of the program, it really has a proud tradition.

The carousel continues to turn.

Andy Kennedy was the interim coach at Cincy and is now the new coach at Ole Miss.

Mick Cronin leaves my alma mater - Murray State - and returns to Cincy, where he began his career under Huggins. On a side note, Murray State is something of a "springboard" school for young coaches. The football team has been the early coaching jobs of guys like VT's Frank Beamer and Arkansas' Houston Nutt with the basketball team sending Mark Gottfried to Alabama, Steve Newton to South Carolina (where he bombed), and now Cronin to Cincy.

First off, I hope that you are right and that he can revive the program. I'm not a K-State fan, but I live in Big 12 country, so the better the basketball played in the conference, the happier I am. Even more importantly, I hope that the university doesn't permit any of Huggins' past practices to continue.

But, I'm not swayed by what you said about Snyder. In his last two years, the team had a losing record and the Big 12 North was pretty weak. Moreover, didn't they name the stadium after him at the same time he retired? That doesn't sound like he was being pushed out the door beginning with the Fiesta Bowl decision. Sounds like he was ok until he started to lose. Maybe the Roberson thing shortened his leash, but it seems that if he had kept winning then that incident would have been forgotten. Again, I hope I'm wrong.

I apologize for not being more clear. The fans in the countryside were worse than mad about Roberson, they were disappointed by Snyder as they thought he had more class. Worse than being angry, they started to become apathetic and these are fans who supported them when they sucked. You are correct that he wasn't forced out the door by the admin but if you follow the papers in state and the alum stuff, the bloom was off the rose. His stepping down gave the rose and his legacy new life.

Doc--Thanks for the clarification. I'm glad to hear about fans who put a program's integrity on par with success on the field/court. Personally, I'd rather see my alma mater field a marginal team but graduate players and follow the rules and all that than have great athletic success without integrity or interest in developing the athletes as people.

The sad thing was that overall he ran a great program and did things the right way.

However, with Huggins, remember that Basketball rules this state. And Cat fans, no matter how great the football team was or is, feel inferior because of the Hawks. And now add the Schockers success to the mix. They want to win. Not at all costs but win. And they remember a time when this was a proud program with a rich history. On the plus side Huggins will probably start up playing Wichita again.

Things are already getting more interesting in Manhattan.

The rumor now is that Huggins is set to hire Charlotte assistant Dalonte Hill to his staff as an assistant coach. While he was at Charlotte, he was the main reason that they got a verbal commitment from current HS Junior Michael Beasley. Now with Hill apparently going to K-State, the rumor is that Beasley will take back his verbal commitment and follow Hill to K-State.

With Beasley (number 4 in the class of '07, and the top PF) plus OJ Mayo (number 1 overall, number one PG) and Bill Walker (number three overall, number one SF) who have long been assumed to go wherever Huggins goes, Kansas State would have three of the top four recruits (top three overall according to some) in what could be the greatest recruiting class ever.
