I'm an avid poker player online, racking up probably a good 30 hours a week. I also play a great deal of live games.
However, last weekend, I went to the casino and dropped in on the nickle slot machines. Left with about $95.
I had fun, so I put InterCasino back on my PC. I went to show my friend how it worked last night, and totally inadvertantly I dropped $20 into a slot machine (it was a 20-line slot at $1 per line) and on that first spin, won $900!!!!
This afternoon, I was dicking around with some of that cash, and walked into $550 playing Blackjack.
The $900 is by far my biggest ever, and the $550 ranks among the best. I also keep track of my poker tournament winnings, and can list these that netted me over $300:
October 15, 2005: Limit Omaha 8/B: $564.25 November 27, 2005: Pot Limit Omaha 8/B: $516.00 December 23, 2005: No Limit Hold 'Em: $367.50 January 14, 2006: 7 Card Stud: $360.00 January 10, 2006: No Limit Hold 'Em: $338.14 October 17, 2005: No Limit Hold 'Em: $335.62 October 10, 2005: 7 Card Stud: $334.00 October 13, 2005: Limit Omaha 8/B: $313.60
I know this is small potatoes compared to some of you out there, so let's hear it!
Best legal payout for me was playing leprechaun poker at an Indian Casino in Miami. On a $1.25 hand it paid out $750, so it was a nice 500-1 shot. I've probably made more and I know I have blown more in single days than that, but the 500-1 shot is something I've never beaten.

$575 hitting the straight flush first time I ever played Three Card Poker at the New York New York in LV. $850 in the best rush ever I've had in Black Jack, started with $50, betting $10 a hand, won that money in less than an hour. $1750 first place local poker torunament $2800 first place local poker torunament (first I ever played live).
Of course now that I'm unemployed I ain't winning!!

Wow...that makes the $75 I won playing the lotto sound like small change.
I'm not much of a casino goer, but I love those nickel slots. There's a sweet Star Wars slot machine that I get a kick out of....when I visit the casino near my brother's place, I'll put five bucks in it and let it ride.

I had something similar happen. At the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Tampa, I decided to take a chance on the $1 bet slots, playing wheel of fortune. Except I accidently bet 45 credits instead of nine, but that 45 dollar bet won me almost three grand.
The biggest card game I ever won was an 800 dollar pot in a 25-dollar buy in no-limit omaha tournament. But I'd be lying if I said I ever came close to duplicating that. After that big win, my next biggest pot is below 200.
I once won $400 on a hand of Lucky Ladies blackjack, and $250 in a NICKEL slot, a Wheel of Fortune slot at the Las Vegas Hilton. The sad thing about THAT was, in a row of six machines it was the only one with a 1000x spot on the wheel (the rest maxed out at 125x or 250x) and there were two old people (it's OK if I call them old, they could've been pieman's folks, they were OLD) at the OTHER end, not winning. It was on something like my third spin. Why wouldn't you automatically play the one with the max bonus?

I walked away from craps at the Monte Carlo in Vegas a few years ago with $1000. It was 3AM, I was the only player at the table, and I rolled seven points in a row. By the time it was over I had quite the crowd watching me.
The next night I went back and did it again. I miss that place dearly. :-)
My dad also won six figures once in the NY State Lottery. That was a long time ago, though, and sadly it did little to improve our family's quality of life. The taxes alone proved to be a killer.

This will be peanuts, again...but at a local casino, I put a five dollar bill in to the two cent slots, and an eighteen cent bet won me over $20.00. Imagine if it were dollar slots! :-)

Most slots win was 250 bucks on the Wheel of Fortune slot machine (my all time favorite and the only slots I'll play).
Every blackjack run I go on winds up back in the house very quickly. I was up about $500 (on a $15 a hand table) a year or so ago, and wound up breaking even after a ridiculously bad streak of 20s and 21s by the dealer. I should've quit while I was ahead.
I suck at no-limit hold 'em, but I won roughly $300 playing limit hold 'em at the Borgata the last time I played there. It was a good time, and I wish they had more limit games.
I lost a few hundred this weeked at the Trop and Caesars, mostly playing the horses and video poker. I did hit the 4-3 Exacta at Golden Gate, which won me $90 or so (by far the most I've ever won on the horses), but the losses were much steeper.
This past weekend my friend and I tag teamed a couple of casinos late night (after 4am) since we had friends down for spring break, it was a good time to say the least.
Day 1 (The Ritz): Got two great shoes back to back, he was betting hands up to a thou each, I can't do that..so I was between $25 and $50, stayed till 10am playin, his total, $19,010, mine $4,400 best day ever gambling.
Day 2 (Marriot Courtyard)Hell we're playing house money, head to the roullete hit couple of numbers then to the BJ table again, more winning, a thou me he did 5 thou.
Day 3 (Intercontinental) Told him the streak would end, plus I really needed the money since im still jobless, but he insisted, i went my way, he lost 7thou in less than 2 hours.
Day 4 (Marriot again) We were pretty drunk and we hit the BJ tables at 4am, the guy in the table beside us hit the progressive jackpot by hitting 4 black aces, but he didn't put the dollar bet!!! He lost 140,000 because of it!! I mean if you're gonna sit in the progessives, play the freakin dollar! Anywho, bad night till the last shoe, we went away winners.
There's gonna be a million dollar guarantee tournament @ the Ritz in May so that's my focus right now.

2) Doubled up on Bulls over Lakers that same night ($1000)
3) Doubled up again the next night Bulls over Kings ($2000)
4) Proceeded to lose it all when Michigan failed to cover a 14 point spread vs Purdue
All house money, but an exciting run nonetheless.

You folks are crazy good and crazy lucky. I had a good win for me the first night I ever played craps. A friend went with me to AC and he basically taught me on the way up and taught me while we were playing at Ballys and Wild Wild West.
We found a couple of good rollers (I stunk when I rolled the dice) and on that night I turned 40 bucks into 230 dollars in about 2 hours. I was never more excited, so of course I've never gone back with that friend or played craps since. Sigh.

I was thinking the same thing. Being both a mathematics major, but more importantly cheap, I understood the odds way before I ever stepped into a casino.
I rarely visit the casinos, but the last time I went it was after a dinner meeting with a client. I put my first single quarter in a slot, and hit a $15 payout. I knew it'd be nearly impossible to get a better winning percentage than that, so I left way ahead.
Other times I have gone, I lost what I budgeted for "entertainment", usually between $20 and $50. One trip I lost my budgeted amount in 23 minutes, winning only once and for .50 during that span. I was proud of myself that I was disciplined enough not to spend anymore that visit. Since the meeting I had to get to wasn't until the next AM, it gave me a great opportunity to people watch, to actually notice how many people lose, and how often they lose.
A couple of years ago I won our office NCAA basketball pool, turning a $3 bet into $230.
Gambling can be fun, but for those that play for more than peanuts, I'm equally curious what's the most anyone has lost gambling?

Most I've ever lost in a single day is $900. That day is what basically stopped me from ever playing any game with a house edge ever again for anything more than funny money. If I go to play poker at a casino now I might drop $50 at blackjack or roulette for the hell of it, but never again will I put large sums of money on any game where I go against the house.

The rule I always heard was you don't tip if it's the owner of the establishment. Otherwise, tip your hairdresser. The gals at Great Clips usually get $3 or $4 after my routine, ten minute clip job each month. Restaurants: about 20% usually.
