Eventually, deep in all of our hearts, we knew this day had to come. Aaron Brooks signs a 2 year contract with the Oakland Raiders. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AriM5mwJumwdllxChtc88Cg1tDubYF?slug=ap-raiders-brooks&prov=ap&type=lgns
If ever there was a QB that defines the Raiders tradition of throwing the deep ball and doing idiotic things throughout the season, it is Aaron Brooks. Now, he just has to perfect the art of throwing the deep ball in the wrong direction and he will have achieved Raiders Perfection.

Still bitter that you had to have the superbowl gifted to you, look you have three rings and the Red Sox won all in the last 5 years. leave the raider fans alone.

Yeah, I'm a little bitter about this signing. I'm going to have to put all my hope into a 3rd round draft pick who has had more surgeries in his career than passes. Go Walter.

I've never considered Wide Right Forever by Norwood to be a gift. Last time Big Blue won was 16 years ago, so I don't have 3 rings in the last 5 years, I just have a QB from a family that has never won anything in their collective lives and this particular one has never broken the 40 yard line in a playoff game.

Is there any coincidence to the timing of this signing and Vince Young having his pro day yesterday (sportsillustrated.cnn.com)? I think I had seen a few mock-drafts where Oakland would grab Young at #7. The article makes it sound like Young did well, but I've heard grumblings (sports.espn.go.com) that some people didn't care for Young's time on the 40, and of course his throwing motion hasn't changed. Does this signing mean that the Raiders aren't expecting Young to be available for them, or does it mean that Young's stock has yet to bottom out?

I still think Young goes to the Titans at #3. I feel that his friendship with Steve McNair will have a greater affect that most think.

Unless Leinart is off the board, no way they're picking Young at 3. First, there's the Norm Chow-Leinart-USC connection. Second, self-preservation/interest dictates Leinart will go before Young, even if the GM and personnel people think that Young has more potential. No GM will get fired for picking Leinart over Young because that's the safe way to go. OTOH, picking Young over Leinart and having Young bomb WILL get a GM fired.

As far as the 40 time, my understanding is that the UT track is notoriously slow (according to the Dallas paper). And, who cares about the guy's 40 time on a track with no defenders, no pads, and in track shoes. Watch some film because that's true game speed. I'd be more worried about decision making and Young throwing the ball. Anyone complaining about his running ability is just trying to justify an already made up mind.

Source: Mike & Mike this morning.

Supposedly the issue with Young's workout was that he was throwing to the receivers *after* they had made their cuts, instead of anticipating where they would be beforehand. Also, his system has been shotgun, as opposed to the dop-back style of the NFL. Finally, his speed will not be such an asset in the NFL as it was in college since defensive players will be considerably faster as well.

In other words, he is good, but not coming across as *great*.

As for the Brooks deal with the Raiduhs, BWHAHahahaha! I had high hopes for Brooks with the Saints, and he just never panned out there. I don't see much more happening for him in Oakland, either.

Brooks will be a tease in oakland, one great week, two mediocre weeks, two killer weeks, wash, rinse repeat. Throwing the long ball to Porter and Moss will save his stats and make him a viable FANTASY QB, but if he stays behind center for all 16 games, the Raiders go 4-12 and wind up in the top 5 lottery picks next year.

And, if the Raiders draft Young, then they are done for in 2007 too. Takes some defense or an OL, build up both sides of the line through the draft. Skill pisition players are for FA and trades. They can always get a matt Schaub or another QB next year. it is RARE a franchise QB come sout of the first round. If they can not get Lienart, they should not take a QB, and that means Cutler too.

I was listening to their show this morning and Kiper came on and he really, REALLY seems to hate Cutler. I think it's personal there and Mel comes off like an idiot.

For those that don't know, Jay was on Dan Patrick a while back along with Chris Simms. Simms was saying he would take Cutler over Young and maybe over Leinhart because he thought he was that good. Kiper had been on earlier and basically bashed Cutler saying there was zero reason to give this kid a high grade, the was way overrated and such. Dan played the clip of Kiper for them and Simms said, hey don't worry about it Kiper pimps the players that have agents that are his friends. Which was kinda shocking to hear for me, and then Cutler said, "yeah I've heard about that."

I mean I've never put that much stock into what Kiper says, but this was kinda eye opening. Since then it doesn't matter what Cutler does(like having a great workout the other day), Kiper just laughs and acts pissed anyone could consider him good.

Anyway, sorry for the tangent but Kiper was on there this morning doing the same thing again, so I felt it was worth bringing up in terms of what QB goes where. I don't think Young hurt himself with this workout, but it will be interesting to see what happens today.
