As I said, I think we're gonna see Venom-or at least the creation of Venom-in this movie. Spidey doesn't look happy in that photo, and he's all decked out in his new threads. If him finding the suit and using it were its sole involvement in the film I don't think you'd see him looking all bummed out even though he's found this cool new supersuit that enhances his powers and makes him even more bad-assier.

So here's your angle: Sandman starts raising hell at the start of the movie, Spidey fights him, gets the symbiote maybe twenty minutes in thanks to sheer coincidence (say it gets into MJ's house via an unwitting John Jameson then attaches itself to Peter when he picks her up).

So the battles with Sandman continue, and with Harry as the Goblin. Peter grows more and more violent and unstable as Brock is introduced as a rival photographer and fancier of MJ. MJ and Pete begin to drift apart thanks to Pete's new attitude, and Brock begins to work his way up at the Bugle. MJ agrees to meet with Brock, but Pete realises what the suit is doing to him and promises to get rid of it. So Pete goes to Doc Conners for help whilst MJ meets Brock and tells him that she and Peter love each other and are going to work it out. Brock's devastated and goes to the church to question what he's doing with his life. Conners tells Spidey that sound will hurt the symbiote and so goes to the church to use the bell, but is attacked by Goblin. They battle, Spidey subdues him, Brock is buried in falling debris, Spidey gets the suit off, and the symbiote crawls onto Brock. Spidey wings Harry to hospital as Brock escapes from the rubble.

So Spidey is left to finish off both Sandman and Venom, who knows all his secrets and is driven by hatred for both Spidey and Peter. Will Harry help him at the last minute? That could easily into the slightly-above-two-hours running time that the franchise has established.

The movie ends with Harry coming to rescue Spidey after he gets whooped by Venom. Venom lives till the next movie, and Han is still frozen in carbonite.

OH WAIT-

Ahahaha, I'm a genius:

Eddie Brock: Doc Connors never told you what happened to your new costume.
Spidey: I killed it!
Eddie Brock: No. I AM YOUR COSTUME!
Spidey: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

I think people are expecting too much out of the Spider-Man franchise at this point. We're already on the third movie and, when it comes to these superhero movies, all bets are off once you get to #3.

Movies aren't comics. Not only will we see the birth of Venom, Goblin #2, and the resolution to the love story with Peter/Mary Jane, but we will see many of these characters die and entire story end in two hours.

There is no "next movie we get Venom" here. You can't get Tobey, Kirsten, Topher, etc. all together for 3, 4, 5 movies to tell an elaborately threaded story. In Spider-Man #1, that was possible, but now that we've made it this far, we're more in the "wrapping things up" part than the "kicking things off" part.

There may be a Spider-Man 4, but most likely Raimi and Tobey will try to move on, or it will be totally just for $$$ without much connection to the story that will unfold in the first 3. Or it'll be straight to DVD, or it'll star Jake Gyllenhaal or something.

2-YEAR-OLD SPOILERS BELOW (Possible #3 spoilers, but only if I'm right)!

Look at the way Spider-Man 2 ended. Everyone (who's a significant character) knows Peter Parker is Spider-Man. For continuity purposes, these characters will most likely die, because we can't have that going for much longer. But, if these characters die, then we've lost our only connections (outside of Peter himself) to the first movie.

So, the story told in the first two movies has to end in #3. Spider-Man #4 would have to be something new (with Gwen Stacy now as the love interest) and would focus on Lizard, or someone not as cool/marketable as the Goblin, or Venom.

I used to buy comics and have the Secret Wars series where Spider-Man gets the costume, as well as the Spidey comics with him wearing his new costume.
Are these worth anything?

Just wondering....

Wrong. As long as these movies keep making money, Sony is going to keep making them and shelling out for them. Sam Raimi has said he'd like to keep working on these movies as long as he has a story to tell and be involved with all of them if possible.

Maguire has pretty much said he'll keep doing them as long as Raimi is around.

I see this movie as the end of the first trilogy of sorts, but not the end. The story with Harry will climax and be resolved. And remember how that ended in the comics.

There will be plenty of villain possibilities for future movies that can be explored. Venom, Carnage, The Lizard, Rhino, The Vulture, Scorpion, Electro, Chamelon, Kraven, etc.

This isn't going to become some stupid direct to video only series like what the Daredevil and Hulk movie series have a future of now.

They shouldn't recast any characters either. Raimi himself recognized that recasting is part of what killed the Batman movies. And Sony seems to understand that people are invested in and connected with these actors and the characters they play. They see the actors as those characters.

I'm not exactly a Spidey expert, but wasn't Eddie Brock like a jacked up jock dude, or something? I could have sworn he was, maybe in the cartoon or something...Thus Venom being about a foot taller and wider than Spider-Man. So, what's with Topher Grace being cast? Apologies if this is a dumb question, I haven't been keeping up.

They seem to be shooting more for Eddie Brock/Venom from the recent Ultimate Spidey series, who's basically a flipside morally-dubious version of Peter. This version's more dramatically-interesting anyways.

No. Eddie Brock was a reporter for the Daily Bugle. Spider-man blew the whistle on him and he swore revenge. After that he got all pumped up on weights and acquiring the Venom symbiote.

Also the Venom symbiote makes you look bigger than you actually are. The last 2 people to hold the mantle of Venom were scrawny guys, but when they were attached to the symbiote they looked like behemoths.

And in the Ultimate comics, Eddie Brock was a childhood friend of Peter's. I don't see that as being the case in this movie.

Eddie Brock was a DAILY GLOBE reporter who revealed the identity of the murderous Sin-Eater in his paper. Then Spider-Man captured the real Sin-Eater (cop Stan Carter), and Brock was ruined. He got fired from the Globe, his wife left him, and all he had left was his hatred of Spider-Man.

Ultimate Eddie Brock was the son of Eddie Brock Sr, Richard Parker's business partner. Both were killed in a mysterious plane crash.

No need to apologize for liking Larsen. He's a cool guy...(just isn't the greatest writer or artist. He's just the guy who took a decent character like Venom and made him hella silly, because he didn't like what McFarlane had done with him...

That's exactly what I thought too. From watching the cartoon, I thought that the jock in Spiderman 1 that Peter first used his Spidey Sense's on to beat up would become Venom.

That's why I can't see them fitting three major villians in one movie. You can't just start the movie off with Sandman running around using his powers. If anything, Raimi has proven to over-due the build-up of the villians to give them more depth. I can't imagine how you could basically have Peter say "Wow, that Alian symbiote I attached myself to and then used soundwaves to defeat sure was tough, I certainly hope it doesn't bond to any of my enemies" because you're going to have to do that to have Sandman and Harry in it. If anything, Venom's going to take the most time to explain out of all enemies, and look at how much screen time they had to give to Doc Ock.

I think most people at BEST have the same knowledge of Spiderman lore as you and me do. A few read the comics, some saw the recent Spiderman cartoons, but I guarantee you that the majority of people that are watching these movies know that he's a comic hero, but really only remember Spiderman from the old 70's cartoon.

Raimi said around the production/release of Spiderman 2 that he had plans to do up to 7 (!?!) Spiderman movies as long as the public didn't reject them. The major sticking point was Tobey's back injury, which really makes it hard for him to do the stunts that he has to as Peter Parker (like back flipping off of the motorcycle).

Maybe they can go with sandman as a throw away character of sorts. Just have the movie open up right in the middle of the spiderman/sandman battle. No disrespect to Marko Flint but he's not the most interesting of characters aside from the SFX aspect. They can maybe do the same with the new suit. Open the movie with spidey already in his new gear. Once the costume starts to give him problems he can go to conners adn reveal the origin of the costume to him and the audience. I'm guessing the rest of the story would involve harry and peters battle and lead into an ending that forshadows spidey fours main story of spidey vs. Venom.

Grace has noticeably bulked up and gotten in great shape for the role. Why does Eddie Brock have to look like some roid freak like Brock Lesnar? And why can't Venom look bigger when he's actually you know...Venom.

I doubt Sandman will be a throwaway character. Because the characters in these movies are NOT throwaway characters.

If anything, I have a feeling Venom will be the villain we won't see as much of. Why? Because Spider-man will have the Venom symbiote through a majority of the movie.

And to give you guys a hint, if you have Venom, and you have Sandman...and you remember what ultimately happened to Harry Osborn in the comics . . .

Eddie Brock Lesner? Anyway, In the comics I read Eddie had to work out to get his strength as it didn't come from the suit. The suit wasn't big, he was.

In the comics I've read, Eddie also hasn't been as big as he has been before and Venom was downright massive.

Which I think is the most likely reason they went with him as a villain. The CGI potential for that character could provide some AMAZING visuals, IMO. I'm sure he won't be a complete throwaway, but doubt he'll get the same in-depth treatment that Doc Ock and the Green Goblin got in the first two films.

In case you're wondering: that was Flash Thompson, who played a role in the books only as the former bully who over time became Peter's best friend and eventual love interest for Felicia Hardy. Having not kept up with the Spider-Man books since the Clone Saga, I can't say what they've done with him lately.
