It’s results night and everybody looks nervous except Katharine, who has a very smug look, and Taylor, who is looking, well, weird. He sticks his tongue out at the camera. This guy is awesome. Bucky looks like he is ready to cry. I think he feels the axe falling even now.

Seacrest says there were 40 million votes and ten of them were mine: five for Katharine and five for Taylor. That’s why they’re looking smug. Randy says each contestant must BRING IT every night and this contest is less about likeability and all about ability. Yeah right, Randy – that’s why each night you’ve gone ON AND ON about how cool and showy and fun everyone is despite their terrible performances. What a hypocrite.

The group performs “Take it Easy” by The Eagles and the guys are in the lead. Elliot and Ace are great, of course, and Chris is a powerhouse. His voice really cuts through the clutter. David is embarrassing himself by stretching out his goofy voice to try to bring a little Vegas style to that dumb ol’ California rock nobody every liked anyway. OH WOW – Bucky sounds awesome! No joke. I can’t believe how good he sounds when he’s not doing that stupid Kid Rock thing. I actually hope he survives now, but probably not. Taylor is absolutely killing Bobby Brady up there.

We get a recap of the performances and then Brenna’s hair is revealed. POOF! I thought she was Lisa Bonet. Stevie is dressed like she’s on the way out and knows it, as if she wanted to wear jeans and a long shirt so when she falls to the stage and weeps, she won’t be indecent or anything.

Kinnik, Beckie and Brenna apparently had the least votes. I’m stunned. What about Stevie? I had it totally wrong. Votefortheworst.com may have just saved Brenna, but we’ll see.

What is that cool techno song on the “Nascar on Fox” commercial? I must know!

Back from the break and Brenna and Beckie are gone! No, wait! It’s only Beckie. What on earth? I thought they were cutting two of the women tonight? I guess not even the moldy old photo spread Maxim dug out of the mothballs could save Beckie. Oh no, I forgot this is the worst part of results night: the final performance of those who are cut. We are again subjected to “Because the Night.” Sounds better tonight because the pressure is all off. Beckie’s a gracious loser and I’m still confused.

Wynton Marsalis and iPod commercials are awesome.

The guys are waiting to be cut now and the rows must be mixed because Taylor doesn’t belong up there next to Boomhauer Bucky and Bobby Brady. They are all safe? Holy cow! Elliot and Ace sit down and it’s down to Kevin, Bobby, Sway and CHRIS? CHRIS? That guy is awesome! What on earth is going on? Am I hallucinating? Bobby is cut. Big deal. He tries to appear not to care and says “I know” when Seacrest drops the bomb. He’s just glad he made the Top 24. Well isn’t that sweet. I’m still hoping Bucky gets another chance.

The girls are back and the back row is still safe. BRENNA IS SAFE! BRENNA IS SAFE! THE CLAWS ARE COMING OUT NEXT WEEK, BY GOD! So is Kinnik. Ahhhh...sneaky American Idol! It’s either Stevie or Heather, to no one’s surprise. Seacrest pulls a little subterfuge and Stevie is gone. Her final performance is way better than Tuesday night’s sashay through the mystical ethereal realm, but hey – it doesn’t matter now.

The guys are looking worried. The front row is safe. Bobby Brady and Taylor are safe. It’s either Bucky (CRAP) or Patrick. Whew! Patrick is gone and Bucky lives to sing another day! It’s just as well – we just can’t get behind a man who resembles Bill the Cat when he has a third of the ability of Billy and the Boingers. Bucky MUST sing something better next week and let this Southern Rock thing die a quick death. Paula’s all weepy-eyed and gives the “I’m a big fan of yours” standard line to Patrick. She then assures him he’ll make an album really soon. Riiiiight. Bill promises “his fans” (if there are such things) that he’ll KEEP GOING. You know I’m pumped. He sings the Etheridge and we get a final look at everybody. Brenna looks legitimately humbled. Maybe she’s going to try repentance to win the audience over. Heather and Bucky look like they dodged bullets and are well aware they’ll have to bring the goods next week.

I don't think Brenna will stay humbled for long. Once it sinks in that she's safe she'll get her attitude right back. You can't fix a decade and a half of bitchiness in an hour.

Remember, just because people were standing with the ones that got the least votes doesn't mean that that was the "bottom three" unless they announce the group as such. They just put the person who's leaving with the one or or two people that they figure will make for better tv.

Good write-up. I'm not sure that I agree with who left this week, but I can safely say that I don't think any of them would have made it to the top 12. There's still 2 more weeks like this left, but so far we haven't lost anyone that shouldn't go before the top 12 is decided (unlike last year with Mikalah (or whatever) staying but that Amanda girl leaving).

Anyone else find it incredibly cruel that they don't let the contestants pick the songs they sing on the way out instead of having to pick the songs that they sucked at? Especially when the reason the judges give them for losing was "you just picked the absolute wrong song", and then they have to turn around and sing it again.

It almost was what I predicted...until the end.

When Becky got knocked out, my parents had one of those "you're kidding!!!" moments as I raised my hand in success in having her booted out. Enjoy watch the rest of AI5 with your twin sister.

Bobby and Stevie, we all agreed. Glad they are gone. Bobby, when you return to Denver, stop in Las Vegas, and see Mr. Manilow. Then again, maybe not. I think it was the jacket he wore last night that made him look like Jackie Gleason. Stevie, nice seeing you.

When it was between Bucky and Patrick, I said to myself, "If Patrick goes, I'll be on the floor." When Patrick got eliminated, I was flat on the floor. I thought he was great, an 11 out of 12. It's 9:51 PM, an hour and a half after seeing it, and I am still miffed that Boomhauer is still there, and Patrick is gone!!!

Now, I hope Brenna is gone next week. It would be my dream for her to sing "Love Will Lead You Back." Yes, the song that always bumps that singer out, like the last two years. But, it probably won't happen (the song, that is).
For the other three, I don't know.

We'll see what happens next week.

Behold the "Wise" Words of Renegade Raine, the Bishounen Hunter:

I KNEW I should have voted for Stevie, even though she made a bad song choice, her kawaiiness won me over. But I HAD to make sure that the big girl made it through to the next round (while my sister voted for Kellie...even though I think she's pretty meh).

I wasn't around for the guy's night, but the only thing I really care about for the guys at this point is that the eye candy made it through, but will probably make it to the final 12 anyways.

But I'm glad that Becky got voted out, because I don't think she even deserved the six that Simon gave her. And both of the guys' performances made me cringe, so I don't mind any of them leaving either.

A night that went as expected, well almost. I started pickin names before I watched, and got a 3/4 with Hall being the exception. I did like how comfortable Bobby looked knowing he was gone, and the "I know" made me wonder, when they do get voted off, how many of them actually do know??

Becky's sendoff speech bothered me, but if I remember right, her pops was a politician, so it probably shouldn't surprise me, it just came off as cheese. Hall was a surprise, but maybe this just isn't the right forum for him, if he does play piano (?), it would seem to be he's too mature for the competition.

On to next week, and another 3 day Idolfest.

I had Stevie picked with Becky as an outside shot...I fully expected there to be more Heather and Brenna hate. I did notice a little better manners on Brenna's part during the show...do you think one of the producers might have let her know that "we can SEE you!"?

I also expected Bobby to go...but I wasn't sure who else was going on the guys side. Not a big fan of David...I think he's just too "lounge lizard-y" to coin my own adverb. I was hoping for him to go. I was kind of shocked at Patrick leaving as I didn't think he was great, but still...inoffensive at least.

And I don't understand all the hate for Will (Bobby Brady)...I didn't think the Jackson 5 was a great performance, but during the audtion shows his voice really impressed me. He's got a very pure voice...but needs to get a little more seasoned performance wise. Glad he got another chance.

Still a big fan of Taylor too...although I do worry that he's going to "fidget" himself right off the stage one of these times.
