The Darko Era has ended in Detroit and it picks up with Orlando essentially doubling up the 4 spot unless they plan on making Howard a center full-time.

MAGIC GETS: Darko, Carlos Arroyo

PISTONS GET: Kelvin Cato and Orlando's first-round pick next year unless it's Pick #5 or above. If it is, the Pistons get their 2008 1st round pick.

I heard on the radio last week that the main reason Detroit held off on trading Darko for so long was because they were afraid to let the world know exactly how big of a bust their #2 pick has been.

I have yet to see this guy even TOUCH a basketball, hopefully he'll get some PT in Orlando and we can all finally see what this guy can/cant do.

I was sad to see the Human Victory Cigar go bye-bye, but I wish him nothing but good luck in Orlando. Teammates had always been saying that he's a lot smoother and quicker in practice, but takes too long to get into the flow during games. Hopefully, he'll have a chance to shine in Orlando.

As for Arroyo, I'm not too sad to see him go. He was well-behaved when playing alongside most of the starters, but he would just go silly with turnovers if it was him and other reserves. Carlos and Chauncey were like night and day out there. And I'll take Chauncey, thanks very much. (And I'll take Lindsey Hunter, too, since his return from injury was part of the impetus for trading Arroyo)

Don't know much about Cato, but I assume the Stones aren't looking for much from him anyways, since this was just a dump to get Big Ben signed next year...

As long as it doesn't end up being the #1 pick in the '08 draft, this is a no lose situation for Orlando. If Darko turns out to be 80% of the player he was touted as they have him and Howard up front, and finding young quality big men is tough to do. If he's a bust, they probably can flip him to another team that thinks he just needs a change of scenery. And, if he is an absolute disaster, just give him a max contract and trade him to the Knicks.

Cato is a solid backup good for 4 and 4 and a bit of shotblocker presence off the bench. He's carrying an $8M salary, but this is the last year of his contract, so it gives Detroit the shot at a good draft pick next year and to clean their cap some. But for the immediate future, he'll be to them in the playoffs what Elden Campbell was the year before, especially against Miami and San Antonio: a walking, talking 6 fouls to give.

I can feel Kawshen about ready to kill you all the way from here.

You should have seen the thing in Darko's rookie year in Phily where in garbage time versus the Sixers where he had a wide open dunk attempt and got rejected by the most intimidating of defenders: the rim. It was the anti-Tom Chambers highlight.

Nah, I actually picture Kawshen nodding his head in agreement with that statement.

Yeah. Just throw him out there next to Dwight "Grown-ass MAN" Howard and let him get some serious minutes for the rest of the season. Orlando's not going anywhere this year, but if Darko turns out to be a good small forward, then all of a sudden you've got something for the future with he and Howard.
