There are even more Who stories available in the UK - go figure - including the FOX movie that everyone hates but is still pretty good. Of course, they're all Region 2, so you might just wanna wait instead.
I guess I'll start saving for TNG *now*. I'm sure it's gonna set me back a good chunk of coin...
I wonder just how complete the BBC archives is, regarding Who broadcasts. I remember, back in halcyon days of being a Dr. Who geek, there were quite a few programs, especially from the Hartnell and Troughton years, that were episodes.
I did pick up recently the Five Doctors (with commentary with Terrence Dicks and Peter Davison) on DVD and it wasn't horrible. Of course, I don't think any of the multiple doctor episodes are high points of the series, the best might be the Two Doctors (Troughton and Colin).
Where available, a season-by-season DVD package would be cool, like the first (I think) Pertwee season where he fought the Master every week or the Key to Time series (god bless Douglas Adams).

Izzat the one where they're cannibals and utter one of my favorite Dr. Who lines of all time?
"Do you serve humans?" "Of course!" "Alright!"
I haven't had a chance to watch it in years. I think CRZ mentioned it was on a station out of San Jose, as well as BBC - but unfortunately I get neither.
When I was a kid, it was on both the Baltimore, Philly, and Jersey PBS stations, all of which we could pick up with that handy=dandy antiquated tool, the rotor antenna.
What's weird, and I don't know how many other places did this, but we were in Boston on vacation and saw on WGBH that they actually showed it daily, but actually in the 30-45 minute episodes, as it was broadcast in Britain.
If I remember correctly, only the ill-fated Season 22 of Doctor Who (after which the show was placed on one year's hiatus) was transmitted in 45-minute episodes. All other seasons featured 22-minute episodes - so WGBH was likely combining two episodes to avoid problems televising Season 22.
cfgb - You are remembering "The Two Doctors" correctly, though the cannibal part was a comic-relief sideline to the main story.
odessasteps - The Hartnell and Troughton eras are still a ruin of missing episodes, thanks to a BBC decision in the early 70's to destroy great numbers of Doctor Who episodes in order to free up storage space and (then-expensive) video tape . Pertwee's era is complete, but not all in color (color transmission having begun with the arrival of Pertwee); "Shada", from the Tom Baker era, is available in incomplete form, as the production of this serial was interrupted by a BBC strike and never completed. The Davison, Colin Baker, and McCoy eras are complete.
Yes - in addition to knowing all this, I have a Romana outfit, complete with pink overcoat and white scarf. All together now - geekgeekgeekgeekgeekgeekgeekgeekgeekgeek...
Steph
I'm going twenty-four hours a day...I can't seem to stop - "Turn Up The Radio", Autograph
Here's a good link on the missing episodes - well, actually, it's a good link for background - if you want just a link to missing episodes, scroll down to the bottom of that page. ;-)
KTEH is down to two episodes a Sunday night - I much prefer seeing entire stories at once, but since they're currently in the Pertwee era, they may just be stretching out what they have available to show. I'm sure it's becoming almost prohibitively expensive to keep showing it...
Also, I really enjoyed the audio commentary on "The Five Doctors" on DVD. I haven't gotten through the "Spearhead from Space" one yet, but I'll let you know.
And Stephanie, I am SHOCKED that no one's asked to see any Romana pix yet.
TNG -- All seven seasons will apparently be released in 2002.
It's about frickin' TIME! I am all over this like a fat kid on a Smartie.
I guess I'll start saving for TNG *now*. I'm sure it's gonna set me back a good chunk of coin...
Good plan. I can only guess what it'll cost for 7 seasons. Let's see, if one season of Sex And The City cost about $45 Canadian.....that'd be $315 Canadian....which would be $197.37 American according to www.currency.co.nz. Ouch - that'd get you a pretty sweet WrestleMania seat. But, I'll get to watch them OVER AND OVER!
"The Season One box set carries no suggested retail price but is expected to be priced by retailers for their customers at under $100. It is not rated in the U.S. by the Motion Picture Association of America; it is, however, rated G in Canada. Each disc has a running time of approximately 176 minutes, with the exception of Disc 7, which has 88 minutes of features and approximately 60 minutes of special features."
The low price is allegedly due to the snug packaging.
So, this seven-disc set will cost less than three of the very sparse Prisoner sets. It's amazing how some companies know how to really pack a DVD and others are content to put just the basics and both charge the same price.

Well, let's be fair - I picked up the Prisoner megaset for $90. It's all about bargain hunting!
I was reffering to "Dr. Who" They have just about everything non porn though. Their prices seem to be consistent with Wherehouse/Wal mart. They main draw is selection and free shipping.
"My parents said I could be anything, so I became an ASSHOLE!"
Unfortunately, I was buying the Prisoner sets as they came out and didn't really want to wait for a box set.
Also streeting today was the Buffy first season set. A severe lack of extras (only two commentaries) in my opinion, but still probably worth picking up.
There's a part of me that wishes they would actually not release TV shows in chrological order, since the first season is usually not up to the quality of later seasons.
And I don't want to wait for, let's say, season 4 of the simpsons, season 5 of TNG and the spike/dru/evil angel season of buffy.
