Agreed. It'd also, if I'm not very much mistaken, be the first time that a face Rumble winner would lose his title shot and not get it back again. Which, seeing as they've made such a massive deal about it being a win for Eddie, would be horrible. I hope they heard that crowd reaction for Rey's victory and realised that Angle Vs. Mysterio would be a)a better match, b)a better angle, and c)a better draw than Angle Vs. Orton.

The show itself was good enough, but aside from the Rey win the booking was, to put it kindly, questionable. I dig the silliness of The Boogeyman, but putting him over one of the most heavily-pushed ME heels in recent memory, and in two minutes no less, is retarded. Couldn't that role have been filled by Orlando, with JBL getting a spot in the Rumble? And putting Angle Vs. Henry on last, JUST so they could do the spooky Undertaker return crap for the SECOND joint PPV in a row, was the height of idiocy.

Can anyone else see Edge weaseling his way into the Triple H/Cena match at mania for a three-way dance? Oh, now we all know how much Vince likes the three-ways.

Wasn't it established a few weeks back that Vince was screwing Shawn by putting him in the Rumble in the #1 spot?

Considering they used Jim Duggan to help pay off Cena's end of his verbal sparring with Edge last week, will they follow through and have Foley and the Iron Sheik welcome Edge into the Transitional Champions Club this week, perhaps with a special appearances by Ivan Koloff and Stan 'The Man' Stasiak.

And this is why the character will have no long-term longevity. Because he's all gimmick and no wrestling skill. He's just the latest in a long line of stupid gimmicks and characters like Eugene. With Eugene it just got to the point where people were rooting for HHH and Angle to destroy him.

Goldust had in-ring ability and psychology to his matches. This is Boogeyman's first match, thought I prefer Golddust's gimmick over Boogeyman's I'm pleasantly in the middle about the character right now.

An appearance by Stan Stasiak would be REALLY special.

The thing is, the repeated use of "transitional champion" is inappropriate here. Edge is a bonfide FLUKE champion. He didn't take the title off of Cena just so someone else could win it (a la Iron Shiek). He beat Cena for it under shady circumstances and couldn't hold on to it the very first time Cena got a another shot.

I so wish it wasn't booked that way, but there ya go.

Much like his first IC reign, trading it with Jeff Jarrett in 1999 over the span of 24 hours.

And in keeping with short IC reigns, he regained it in 2001, held it for a month before losing it to Christian for about a month, got it back for two weeks, and then lost it to Test for about two weeks.

I read somewhere that Foley/Edge was likely at WM22. Maybe this line against Foley was the begginning of the angle.

Actually, that was never established. The only mention Vince made in regards to HBK & the Rumble was last week when Vince said that Shawn's luck was gonna run out then. That Vince would rig the drawing to make Shawn #1 is what everybody assumed.

Well, putting the belt back on Cena was stupid and it's doomed to fail and I can't wait till an arena full of people at WM are chanting HHH's name to beat him. It's gonna be a glorious clusterfuck.

That said, they had to do it. They had to pull the trigger on the WM main events.

Look how badly Orton was stalled by losing the main event last year, he was tagged with the failure label.

They have to use these next few months as a last ditch effor to get Cena over as THE MAN. To much time, money and effort have been spent not to.

Same with Orton v. Angle. If they keep Orton out again, he's Lex Luger, he's the can't miss prospect who missed.

I'd much rather see Edge and Rey in main events, but I also don't think a company can throw out 2 years of work.

Our best hope is that Orton and Cena go to the main events at Mania, bomb horribly (though I am high on Orton these days and think he'll eventually get over.)

My hunch is Edge will take on that Chris Jericho role, high profile main eventer who doesn't necesarily have the belt.

Plus, I'm sure he'll cut a great pissed off promo tonight.

If indeed Goldust is brought back full-time, does he join the Smackdown roster? I see money in a Goldust/Boogeyman team. And if not, just reunite Goldie with Booker T.

I read somewhere that Foley/Edge was likely at WM22. Maybe this line against Foley was the begginning of the angle.

HA HA HA HA...because being an asshole heel with a skank girlfriend that everyone hates and carrying around the belt for a year+, building up to a huge WM23 blow-off wouldn't make Edge "over"; but another "hey look, I'm Cactus Jack and a bad motherfucker...now watch me j.o.b.") angle will...

As much as I love Foley - and he and Edge would make this great (if it happens) - you can only go to the well so many times. Edge doesn't need this kind of help to "get over"... I'm thinking support from those in charge would have been *really* nice

Re: Rey Rey - someone needs to get a screen capture of him selling like Jesus on the cross - literally. I'll need to watch the tape for specifcally when it happened, but basically, he was selling like he's dead (same as always) -except this time he had his head turned to the side, arms outstretched and his feet crossed. Like a crucifix. Tributes rule, I guess.

I *think* the plan is to have Orton (or whoever) take on Angle at Wrestlemania. Have him pin Rey and steal the title shot would, in theory, give him additional heat going into the match.

It would also legitimately piss off the thousands of fans, both there in attendance and watching at home, who went apeshit for Rey's big win last night. As well as making Rey's tribute-to-Eddie angle less a tribute and more a cheap heat-builder for Orton. As well as providing us with a WrestleMania feud that no-one wants to see over Rey finally getting a big-time World Title shot.

It's just a bad fucking idea.

The Royal Rumble match itself sounds great. I must say, HHH has impressed me over the last two years with his ability to use his psychology in using his bad reputation to get others over. HHH has actually done a lot for Benoit, Batista, and now Rey.

Of course, the skeptic in me knows he's going to spend all of this capital to go over Cena at WM.

Count me in as someone who doesn't really like Cena getting the belt back so soon. I thought they had a good thing going with Edge as the champion.

I'm sure I'm not the only person who has noticed this, but are they just using the angles they had for Batista with Kurt Angle? The rumor was that it would be Batista/Orton at WM, so now instead of re-thinking things, they're just plugging Angle into Batista's slot. I really, really, hope they run with Rey. It has a lot of potential to do Angle/Rey or Orton/Rey, or whatever, over anything else. It could even be a face Angle vs face Rey match.

Given the potential match selection at WM22, I don't think any of the matches in particular have blockbuster drawing power, so it's worth taking the risk with Rey. But, that's my mini-rant on that issue.

Overall, didn't see it, but this sounds like a good PPV albeit with a really odd match order.

Seemingly. Batista vs. Undertaker was initially advertised for No Way Out.

Another thought I had was wondering if they'd go back to Edge's taunts to Flair of "when I win, I won't lose it 16 times, I'll just hold it a really long time" and rekindle that feud again.
