Um, Seattle really sucks. They are 13-3, but who have they beaten? They played only 5 (5!) teams with winning records this year (4 if you don't count Indy b/c they weren't playing their starters) and lost to two of them (Washington and Jacksonville). The other two they won, but only by 3 points each and both at home. If Washington had a schedule where they played the Rams twice, Arizona twice, the 49ers twice, Houston, Tennessee, Green Bay, and so on, then we'd be the ones going 13-3 (or better).

Seattle's D is nowhere near as good as Washington's is right now. The Redskins won't win big, but they will win.

EDIT: BTW, Washington played everyone in the playoffs in the NFC except for Carolina and beat them all. They even beat Tampa twice, but only one counted b/c the refs messed it up...

Um, if Josh Brown's field goal at the end of regulation goes one foot to the right, they also beat the Redskins at FedEx. (You could also say, well, if Drew Bledsoe doesn't throw that stupid pass and if Jay Feely doesn't miss three field goals...but we're analyzing your ignoramus statement and not my own.)

The 'Hawks really remind me of the 2001 Patriots, where no one really expects them to do anything in the playoffs (because they are the Seahawks) so everyone is overlooking the fact that they're REALLY GOOD. They've been CRUSHING these inferior opponents, and I expect them to handle Washington on Saturday.

(And, boy, had they BETTER, because it will be a long depressing winter around here if they lose to the Redskins.)

Sorry. Sucks was too strong of a word. I meant overrated. They haven't proven anything to me yet, and I don't see how beating bad teams by a lot of points makes you a better team. Quality wins are where it's at. Right now the 'Skins are riding a 6 game win streak where they have beaten some bad teams (St. Louis, Arizona, Philly) but have beaten three very good teams (Dallas, NYG, and Tampa) and have looked good while doing it (except for that playoff game...). Granted we're looking a little tired, but I think if the D holds, we're going to win. (Also, more than 120 yards on offense will help!)

I think Seattle is what it appears to be, an NFC playoff calibre team. They went 13-3 and nobody else did, which is something a lot of people seem to be overlooking.

Now I wouldn't call them the 2001 Pats. If anything, that would be Washington.

The 2001 Pats started off 1-3 and went on a big roll, eventually finishing 11-5 for the #2 seed. They weren't favored to beat Oakland at home, mostly because they were "the Patriots", but they did in the TRG, then they went to Pittsburgh for the AFC Championship Game a heavy underdog and beat the Steelers. They were also (rightfully) huge underdogs to the Rams, but the fact is they were a good team that was winning games and they kept winning.

The Seahawks have a better record and homefield advantage, but they started off 2-2 and won 11 in a row, and I think the perception of them is that they will choke, simply because they are "the Seahawks." If they were "the Rams", let's say, with that record and homefield people would no doubt be penciling them in for another trip to the Super Bowl, at least more than are giving the Seahawks that chance. I think if the Hawks are playing the Panthers next week everybody and their mama is going to take the Panthers to win. That's where I see the similarities.

EDIT: I mostly came to the "2001 Pats"-comparison when they were 11-2, and 12-2 and still no one was give them much credit, even though they had won all of those consecutive games, but I think it still applies.

So Tom Brady finally loses a playoff game. Not to say they weren't a great team over the past few years, but in winning three Super Bowls, any team has to get their fair share of luck and/or good breaks - Tuck Rule, various Vinatieri field goals, etc - and tonight it caught up to them. Denver is the better team, but the Pats had everything going wrong with a missed field goal, three fumbles including on two consecutive plays, and the pick in the endzone and subsequent review not giving them back the ball.

I'm no Pats fan or anything, but I was hoping they would get to the Super Bowl so we could have (most likely) the anticipation of another showdown between the Colts and the Patriots as well as the storyline of "Can Someone Finally Beat Brady in the Playoffs" when they got to the Super Bowl. Plus I have a hard time caring about any team with Jake Plummer at the helm.

And I guess JayJayDean and his fellow Seahawks fans *finally* get to celebrate a playoff win. Must be lonely at the bottom for the Bengals fans and the Cardinals fan.

That pass interference call on Samuel to end the first half was awful. That said, five turnovers is unacceptable and the Patriots deserved to lose. If I'm a Denver fan, however, I'm worried about next week; the Broncos didn't win as much as the Patriots frittered the game away. If Denver plays like that against Indy or Pittsburgh next week, they won't be so lucky again.

Not to say Denver didn't get some home cookin' with that pass interference call to Samuel, but the call on Champ Bailey's homage to Leon Lett was spot on. Besides, even if it did go out you'd still have Brady & Co. having to go 70+ yards all over again just for the chance to score.

Believe me -- I'm all for Chicago winning today (and FWIW, going up against Indy in XL), but if they don't, at least New England's out of the playoffs.

So nice to see Vanderjagt finally get what he deserves.

I'm glad the Steelers won, because I don't think I could have stomached an AFC championship game between a team I hate (Indy) and a team that wasn't completely deserving of its win (Denver). Hopefully Pittsburgh can complete the run out of nowhere to Detroit next week.

Time to sit back and find out if the Bears are for real.

It's good to see that the WWE isn't backing away from Batista or Cena. There's still some questions lingering over a few of the draft moves they either made or didn't make (Jericho being a prime example), but the stage is set for a solid run to Summerslam that may send the indicator down. The longer Triple H stays away is also a plus...

You really have to believe that no member of the Manning family is ever going to win a championship(and, as a Giants fan, that is discouraging). Every break in the world set up for the Colts: Dome field through the Super Bowl, the Patriots knocked out and their whipping boys the Broncos awaiting them in the next round, a very generous interception overturn by the ref with 5 minutes to go, Bettis fumbling etc., and the drunken kicker hits one of the worst shanks I've ever seen. I mean, Norwood against the Giants was just to the right from 47 on grass. This kick had to miss by 20 yards to the right.
Does the Steeler tradition of spitting the bit in home conference title games translate into road conference title games?

Manning gets two drives in the last three minutes with all three times out and all the Colts need is a field goal. Of course they come up empty.

Where does Peyton rank in the Pantheon of Choking Superstars? I'd say after this game, he's rocketing quickly to the very top.

I'd say he's at least in A-Rod territory at this point.

I lost $4 betting on Proline because of the Colts loss, but it's worth it to see the Peyton Manning Face (tm Bill Simmons) out in full force. I'm sick of the bloody Manning family and their horseshit; their dad was a crappy quarterback who has somehow been retconned into a star, Peyton never won anything in college and had played with two hands around his neck in the pros, and Eli looks to be continuing that fine family trend with his bed-shitting performance against the Panthers (not to mention stiffing the Chargers in the draft).

Sure, Vanderjagt missed that kick, but it wasn't his fault that his team played like donkeys for the first 59 minutes of the game.

Couldn't agree more on that. I just hope Eke is doing ok. Between Chris Masters getting a major push and then this. I just have to say though, this was probably the Colts best chance to win it all. Like RSN said, they got home field, Pats got knocked out, and Denver waiting for them, and they couldn't get it done. Do the Colts lose players this offseason as cap casualties or will Peyton do some restructuring of his deal?

I think the Broncos end up winning because of three reasons...

1. Major homefield advantage for Broncos.

2. Steelers playing their 3rd straight game on the road.

3. Coaching matchup between Shanahan and Cowher. I'll go with the guy who coached 2 SB winning teams vs. a guy who has underachieved in the past few AFC Championship games.

Guess not.

On to another thought; I was hoping my Pats could win 3 SB's in a row to make NFL history, but there is a chance of some history still being made. No coach has won SB's with 2 different teams. Parcells (Giants/Pats), Shula (Colts/Dolphins), and Reeves (Broncos/Falcons) have taken 2 different franchises to the SB, but haven't won with 2 different teams. If Seattle goes on to win SB XL, Holmgren will be the 1st coach to win SB's with 2 different teams.
